We asked Matthew, CEO of Turbine, a few questions about his company and view of the markets they serve.
GetApp: Are you a Cloud or a Software-as-a-Service company?
Turbine: We do Software as a service.
GetApp: How do you use and promote usage of Cloud Computing?
Turbine: We believe in cloud computing and web applications so we try to practice what we preach. Obviously, we use Turbine itself for time off, expenses, purchasing etc. But we also use online applications for invoicing, customer support, payment processing, project management, collaboration, file sharing and all the rest. Apart from our application servers, which have a very real physical existence, Turbine is literally a cloud-hosted company. We don’t have anything but our PCs and the internet.
GetApp: What are the points of difference of your solutions?
Turbine: Turbine competes with similar online applications for HR and office admin by combining several different functions into one easy-to-use, consistent interface. Instead of buying one service for expenses and another for time off management and so on, companies get everything from Turbine with a single log in. We also have a fantastic (but beta) tool that lets you build your own forms and workflows so you can implement pretty much any system you like. But many of clients are moving to Turbine from manual systems. In a lot of cases, our competition is not another SaaS app but paper forms and Excel. In this comparison, Turbine does very well – it’s more efficient, better for users, less labour-intensive and less prone to errors.
GetApp: How would you like to be evaluated by a prospect?
Turbine: You can sign up for a free 30-day trial. Most of our customers used that time to test the app with a couple of users and then a pilot with 5-10 people. By the time the trial is over they know if it’s going to work for them and they’ve already started enrolling people onto the system.
GetApp: Why do your customers buy from you?
Turbine: Turbine is just more efficient than paper forms and Excel and better value than single point solutions from our competitors.
GetApp: Can you mention some of your key clients?
Turbine: We’re adding new recommendations regularly via our LinkedIn page.
GetApp: What do you see as the key trend emerging in the industry?
Turbine: The rest of the business world is definitely travelling in our direction: Outsourcing, cloud apps, flexible working and virtual companies. Smart, tech-savvy businesses like Turbine are already there and showing how companies can really revolutionise the way we work.
GetApp: What is THE most important message you feel you should get across to someone considering buying your solutions?
Turbine: Workers of the world: try Turbine. You have nothing to lose but your paperwork. Seriously, you get a 30-day free trial. You don’t need a credit card to get started and it takes a couple of minutes to register. What have you got to lose?
GetApp: Thank you for your time, Matthew.
