Review for System Shepherd

System Shepherd is a solid monitoring and alerting product
by Sonic Solutions, Inc. on 2010-11-12 18:11:25

The System Shepherd agent / website portal system is a very useful monitoring product that provides alerting on both standard as well as custom server and application metrics. There will be growing pains in getting it set up to your specifications, but once that is achieved, it allows you to simply wait for alert emails or SMS messages to notify you of machine issues. I do highly recommend using the Incident Management support upgrade, which lets their people handle the first response to any issue, and let's them contact you only when escalation is required.

Overall rating:

Ease of deployment:

Pros: The agent monitoring system is great at alerting on a variety of metric thresholds. SysShep Portal metric graphs provide a great way to see a variety of metrics gathered in a single view, and have helped us find the cause of several issues already.

Cons: The SysShep agent sometimes stops sending data, which requires attention from the SysShep cust support team. This occurs at a frequency of ~ once per month over 60 agents. Also, the website portal is slow and setting up the configs isn't intuitive.

Best Uses: For metric viewing, setup all graphs for a given server cluster on a single page. See the overall performance traits of that cluster in a single view. For alert thresholds, setup appropriate mon templates, and set thresholds to your desired specs.

Review Context: We use the System Shepherd monitoring agent on roughly 60 cloud VMs hosting various LAMP web services for the commercial website www.PhotoShow.com.

Review for Nolio Automation Center

Data center operations dream
by Jason Pitts on 2009-12-06 23:35:40

Using Nolio for managing the automated deployment of our applications has decreased our maintenance window by ten fold.

Overall rating:
Ease of use:
Features:
Value for money:
Ease of deployment:

Pros: We can use the same deployment process for QA, Staging, and Production environments. The operations teams don't need full server access to run the processes since Nolio has it's own permission management.

Cons: The interface is a little outdated.

Best Uses: We use it in QA, Staging, and Production for deployment all 35 of our SaaS applications.

Review Context: I am the VP Ops of a large on SaaS provider.

Review for Agile Platform

The IDE of my dreams
by Justin on 2010-08-26 05:33:58

The Agile Platform is a truly unique idea in the world of development tools. By providing the Integration Studio, it addresses the common concerns about systems that promise “no more hand coding.”

Overall rating:
Ease of use:

Value for money:
Ease of deployment:

Pros: I really liked the integrated workflow, particularly deployment (and the rollback functionality), and the fact that it already takes care of scale out scenarios, security, and other common headaches.

Cons: Is the Agile Platform for everyone? No, it isn’t. But for developers working on typical Web applications

Best Uses: One thing I really like is that Web services are treated like any of the built-in actions. This is a refreshing change of pace from my (admittedly limited) experience doing the same in Visual Studio.

Review for QAIassist Integrated Methodology

QAIassist - Scalability
by C Watson on 2010-06-14 10:21:56

Nice to see there is finally something available to SMBs who are seeking affordable tools that can help them with developing and supporting IT applications. Also liked the idea of a "free trial" offer.

Overall rating:
Ease of use:
Features:
Value for money:
Ease of deployment:

Pros: Was able to scale the methodology life-cycles and deliverables to meet my needs - was not overloaded with formality and "red tape" - could pick and choose as required. Best of both worlds - structure on one hand, flexibility on the other.

Cons: Nothing - everything was left in my hands and I used it as was required.

Best Uses: The idea of integrating three (project management, development, testing) life-cycles into a deliverable based methodology is "genius". Creating deliverables ensures the whole team (IT & business) remain in sync throughout the project.

Review Context: From a consultant who frequently experiences SMBs struggling with the inefficiencies of their IT.

Review for Testuff Test Management

It makes software testing pretty easy
by Rakesh on 2011-05-30 08:43:20

I think the combination of low prices and an integrated test suite is enticing enough for users to migrate from on-premise solutions. Besides cost savings, I think the move will also help eliminate redundancy in your testing process by reducing dependency on support personnel within the organization. However, all this comes with a caveat: you must remember that this solution replaces manual testing only. Automated testing will still be dependent on tools such as Load Runner etc.

Review for Issue Tracking

Easy to use but powerful issue tracker
by Ross123 on 2010-11-05 11:15:34

Ive used Elementools Issue tracker for about 6 months now. I have to admit I really like it. For one, its pretty easy to use. Ive learnt the whole system in under an hour or so. Two, I like how all the forms are customizable and you can add unlimited fields. Three, it's pretty convenient to have all of Elementool's applications integrated. All in all, a really nice product. Definitely worth the money.
