Review for System Shepherd
System Shepherd is a solid monitoring and alerting product
by Sonic Solutions, Inc. on 2010-11-12 18:11:25
The System Shepherd agent / website portal system is a very useful monitoring product that provides alerting on both standard as well as custom server and application metrics. There will be growing pains in getting it set up to your specifications, but once that is achieved, it allows you to simply wait for alert emails or SMS messages to notify you of machine issues. I do highly recommend using the Incident Management support upgrade, which lets their people handle the first response to any issue, and let's them contact you only when escalation is required.

Pros: The agent monitoring system is great at alerting on a variety of metric thresholds. SysShep Portal metric graphs provide a great way to see a variety of metrics gathered in a single view, and have helped us find the cause of several issues already.
Cons: The SysShep agent sometimes stops sending data, which requires attention from the SysShep cust support team. This occurs at a frequency of ~ once per month over 60 agents. Also, the website portal is slow and setting up the configs isn't intuitive.
Best Uses: For metric viewing, setup all graphs for a given server cluster on a single page. See the overall performance traits of that cluster in a single view. For alert thresholds, setup appropriate mon templates, and set thresholds to your desired specs.
Review Context: We use the System Shepherd monitoring agent on roughly 60 cloud VMs hosting various LAMP web services for the commercial website www.PhotoShow.com.
Review for New Relic
Already an integral tool for our systems
by Paul Griffiths on 2012-01-26 11:14:58
Installation of New Relic was quick and simple. Less than an hour after installing we already had enough data to pinpoint bottlenecks in our application. The breakdown of tiers (PHP, Database, Web External) was invaluable. We were able to quickly realise that 3rd party external resources were the cause of some excessive response times. Montoring of new releases is now all done via the New Relic dashboard, we are able to see in pretty much real time if any issues are happening.

Cons: Nothing, it's now an integral part of our toolset.

Taking APIs to the next step
by Paul Nulty on 2010-11-08 09:01:29
Anyone serious with its API strategy would consider an outsourced API management solution. We have used this cloud-based solution and have been satisfied with the initial results. We had to properly manage or web-services to understand the ROI a solution like this can help you just do that. We have not yet moved to the paid version but we are seriously considering it.

Pros: real plug&play approach scalability support quality
Cons: Although they have a self-service sign-up option, I would recommend reaching out to the team. They are responsive and can provide great advice on where/how to get started.

Review for InterWeave Salesforce.com integration with Quickbooks
Salesforce_Credit Card Processing Gateway_Quickbooks integration via InterWeave Smart Solution
by Gregg Potter on 2010-07-15 12:13:50
Anything Weather has been working with Salesforce and Quickbooks separately for a couple of years. Their increasing business required an automation integration Solution, bi-directionally, adn reconciled in real-time between these two applications. In addition, they need real-time and ACH Credit Card processing in Salesforce. Challenge As our business is growing rapidly, entering accounts, contacts, opportunities, products in Salesforce, and then re-entering and converting all this information for Quickbooks entry was distracting, error-prone, inefficient and not a core business process. We required an automated integration Solution, one that would adhere to our work flow, business processes and one that we could manage, monitor and maintain. We looked at a number of products that performed direct synchronization of fields between Salesforce and Quickbooks, but we required much more than that; we required a Solution that we could configure exactly the way we wanted to.

Pros: We choose the Enterprise model of the Salesforce_Quickbooks Smart Solution by InterWeave with the integrated Credit Card Processing Gateway. Our sales team can now easily create an Account, build the Opportunity (with Product line items), etc.
Cons: None
Best Uses: * Full, automated integration for my Salesforce/Credit Card Processing/Quickbooks for my sales and accounting teams at a fraction of the cost, time, & risk of traditional "all-in-one" applications Increased ability to deliver outstanding service

Review for WorkXpress Build from Scratch
Workxpress is the PaaS of choice
by Cloudsuite on 2011-11-04 23:18:45
As an budding entrepreneur I looked at various software development houses to help get my idea off the ground, unfortunately the cost barrier was to high. I then discovered workxpress a platform that allowed me to realise my vision and develop the application without the need to learn how to code. Workxpress support is responsive and the ongoing training from the team is second to none, furthermore the continued development of the platform has lead to some dramatic improvements of feature creation. I cannot recommend Workxpress highly enough, if you have an idea for a database driven app then you should try this software, I think you will be surprised at how easy it is.

Review for RSDataWeb
RSDataWeb - A Consultant's Assessment
by Arnold Cummins on 2010-06-20 10:24:14
I have recently carried out an assessment of RSDataWeb as a software package and am very impressed with it. I found it easy to use and understand. It uses simple, friendly and intuitive screens, and makes powerful and effective use of web-based processes to manage the various types of data required for Self-Managed Superannuation Funds. I am pleased to recommend it as a modern and comprehensive means of easing the workload and minimising the costs associated with the handling SMSFs.

Review for Hosted Virtual Desktop from the Cloud
True Hosted Desktop Solution
by Alex K. on 2011-10-28 10:27:55
We provide community-based care services across Hampshire, East Sussex, West Sussex and Kent. We needed the IT services to be able to support our expanding operation. There was a lot to think about –different sites, different user profiles, local bandwidth provisions, delivering an already remote application. The Hosted Desktop solution was rolled out to over 130 users, including a number of specific applications. Our employees got back to work in no time, no training was necessary and their productivity increased as they gained more work flexibility. Support issues have plummeted since we moved to Hosted Virtual Desktops. The high level SLAs as well as the user-friendly ordering interface allows us to scale as we grow. The low bandwidth requirements of ThinkGrid’s Hosted Desktops helped save even more costs. Through a local Partner, ThinkGrid brought us high quality and affordable IT services. 2 years of successfully working on their platform, we'd definitely recommend it.

Cons: No issues so far.
Best Uses: Multiple sites - our users were spread over 40 sites, specialised applications, limited internal IT resources
Review Context: Successfully moving 40 sites to the cloud
Review for Okta On-Demand Identity Management
fully featured user lifecycle management solution for the cloud
by Rakesh on 2011-08-11 07:40:03
Whether you are a business starting with your first cloud application or an aggressive adopter with multiple cloud applications, and you are concerned with security and ease of access to these applications, then this solution is for you. Costs are minimal but the peace of mind that it brings, in the words of a popular advertisement, is “priceless.”
