There's a tale my family love to tell about me. When I was a kid, during every day of the month of December, I would sit under the Christmas tree in our living room and compile a very systematic tally of the presents under the tree - how many, and who they were addressed to. My first foray into inventory management, if you will, was to help organize and accurately record the gifts, so that none got lost behind the TV, or eaten by the dogs (and definitely not to make sure that I had the most presents, as the youngest sibling).
