Interview With Sahil Parikh, Founder CEO of DeskAway

We asked Sahil Parikh, Founder & CEO of DeskAway, a few questions about his company and his view of the markets they serve.

GETAPP.COM: Who are you and what is your role in the company?

PARIKH: Founder & CEO

GETAPP.COM: Can you briefly present your management team?

PARIKH: Sahil Parikh - Sahil, a tech-enthusiast and an entrepreneur, returned from the U.S after almost 8 years to start a technology company in India, whilst also being the founder of a successful web company in the US. While most people were concentrating on the BPO and outsourcing business, Sahil's dream was to build a product that would provide value to thousands of businesses around the world, and most importantly, one that is conceptualized and developed in India. Enthusiastic about new emerging technologies and interested in the impact of technology on businesses, Sahil's previous work experience range in the US includes IBM Corp., Merscom, a visual e-commerce startup, Pyramis Studios, a multi-media company, and Clinical Tools, Inc. an e-healthcare company: all of these serving to enrich the depth of his knowledge of the IT world. Sahil holds a Bachelors Degree in Mathematical Sciences - Computer Science strain from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is also a Founding Alumni Member of the Carolina Entrepreneurship Club, a member of the TiE India, Young Leaders Forum of IMC and the American Alumni Association. Recently, Sahil has been named a Paragon 100 Fellow (Asia's most inspiring young entrepreneurs and social change makers), shortlisted in BusinessWorld's Top 30 Young Entrepreneurs in India, featured on the cover of India Today Aspire (The Young Guns), showcased on CNBC's prestigious TV show 'Young Turk Innovators' and interviewed in VentureBeat and NYTimes by a prominent Silicon Valley journalist. When not in front of the computer, Sahil spends his time reading, writing, playing golf, tennis, doing yoga thrice a week, and traveling to distant places (loves Mykonos and the rest of the Mediterranean coast) with his wife. Sitanshi Talati-Parikh - Sitanshi has earned a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Bombay University, a minor (Honors) in Economics and Politics, and continued her post-graduate research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also has certifications in Journalism and in Personality & Human Values. Sitanshi has written for various Indian and American publications and has been Editor & Creator of the Digital M (non-profit web development e-zine). Having worked as design director and administrator with a pharmaceutical company in India, she brings to the table a combination of creative skills, administration and management expertise. GETAPP.COM: Are you a cloud or a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) company?

PARIKH: We are a Software-as-a-Service company.

GETAPP.COM: How do you use and promote usage of cloud computing?

PARIKH: We use Amazon S3 cloud storage for storing of media files that are used on our websites and application.

GETAPP.COM: What are the points of difference of your solutions?

PARIKH: We have built DeskAway with 3 ideas - simple, powerful and yet affordable for the small business/team.

GETAPP.COM: How would you like to be evaluated by a prospect?

PARIKH: As one of the best (simplest as well as powerful) app for work management and collaboration there is on the Internet.

GETAPP.COM: Why do your customers buy from you?

PARIKH: For several reasons: - The app is easy to use and has most of the features they are looking for - The app has a clean UI - They feel comfortable with the price point - They love our customer service and promptness is responding to their questions - They like it that our goal is to "simplify work" in the current times of information overload.

GETAPP.COM: Can you mention some of your key clients?

PARIKH: Sorry, we do not give our client information. You can take some names from our site: www.deskaway.com.

GETAPP.COM: What do you see as the key trend emerging in the industry?

PARIKH: We will see many many more entrepreneurs and startups emerge from every corner of the world. They would use a combination of different SaaS/Cloud tools to run and grow their business virtually.

GETAPP.COM: What is THE most important message you feel you should get across to someone considering buying your solutions?

PARIKH: It is better to work smart than to work hard.
