Pros

I believe it is a great asset for any business. Once setup it is extremely easy to use and gives valuable insights to improve and thrive your business.
I love that this is free and easy to use. It's important to set up goals and conversations and then track them over time.
Overall, positive experience using Google Analytics. Has some good points and is free for deployment, and the reports and visualisation give a nice snapshot on the audience base.

Pros

Hotjar is reliable and is the best at what it does. There are other options to help record app sessions, but HotJar continues to do what it does best.
UX plays a very important role for performance marketing and Hotjar is a brilliant tool which helps in collecting user behaviour data to do analysis and take corrective measures.
This is a fantastic way to understand how users are engaging with your site. I am a big fan of Hotjar and the approach to marketing insights.

Cons

I was having problems configuring my Google Analytics, and I couldn't figure out what was wrong.
Some reps seem to be less knowledgeable than you are. Some seem to completely misunderstand your questions and then fail to reinterpret.
In addition my biggest frustration is the correspondence (or lack there of ) between GA and Search console.

Cons

This is problem because when a user messages us with a problem and we want to view how he used our website right away, we can't confirm his actions right then and there, only after a few hours.
I was unsatisfied with other Heatmapping and recording software.
Session recordings could have more filtering options and auto detection of rage clicks and ux issues. Unfortunately this tool can slow down your page load.

Best Web Analytics Tool Ever

My overall experience with Google Analytics is superb. It provides actionable insight for my marketing team, so we understand how our web assets are working in terms of customer acquisition, traffic, and conversions.

Pros

Google Analytics is my go-to tool for analyzing website traffic and it's user behavior at one glance. What I really like is Google introduced a ready-made report on Google Analytics, so you need to navigate less than before to understand what you're looking for.

Cons

It lacks some advanced features like heat-map tracking options like Hotjar and other analytic tools. Still, hotjar or others cannot beat google analytics.

We use GA to track B2B and B2C customer behaviour in our travel agency. This is coupled with Hotjar, Mixpanel and Qualitative Testings.

Pros

Easy to get started Easy to track customer behaviour Ability to setup and monitor funnels and flows to detect leakage. Align funnels with business value to track Setup up customer goals Insights engine is super nice!

Cons

Beyond the basic, the leanring curve is super steep! Advanced configurations and understanding the impact on your business is difficult You can easily drown in features Super difficult to understand when you move beyond GA, e.g to Google Tag Manager and Google Data Studio. This requires extra learning/courses.

Tool every website should make use of

We were able to solve some major business obstacles like optimizing our various marketing funnels and advertisement campaigns based on the data we got from this tool, and this immensely helped us reduce our bounce rate and ad spend and also provide a better UX which ultimately resulted into more conversions.

Pros

Google has some of the best user tracking tools in the world and when they have an website traffic analytics tool its bound to be awesome and it is. Google Analytics is the first 3rd party service we put on our and our client's websites. It becomes extremely easy to track the source of your website traffic and the bounce rate of various pages. For a marketing company like ours, this information is pure gold as we are able to realign our marketing funnels, our SEO, SMO and content strategies based on the data we get from this tool, and all of this is for free which is unbelievable.

Cons

Though this is an excellent tool, it does have some major limitations which is understandable considering its a free product. It will not give you heat maps of mouse clicks of the pages users have visited and neither will it give in depth report about the user's behavior on the site. For those you need to have a paid service like Hotjar. And the entire dashboard of Google Analytics could be quite intimidating at first, it will take quite some time to get used to all the nooks and corners of this application.

Google Analytics has been an industry standard for a decade at least. At the beginning, it offered an astoundingly robust measurement suite for the very attractive price of "no money." As time went on, its features began to lag behind more specialized UI/UX/Ecommerce tools – though it still won handily on price, meaning the discussion was often more about "and" than "or". Google's new focus on improving...

Pros

Google Analytics has always been good because it is free and fairly robust. In terms of power tools, it's like a dremel. It probably isn't the single best tool for any specialized job, but it is giving you a huge amount of functionality at a really attractive price point. And, as integrations with other Google products increase, Analytics is becoming much more powerful than it had been for the past 5 years or so (as it's first-mover advantage was eroded by new specialized tools).

Cons

Documentation and support. I mean, of course support isn't going to be on the table for a piece of free software from a behemoth like Google... but it would be nice if they would at least go back and update/remove outdated support articles and forum posts. It is nearly impossible to find the answer to a problem on your first try, as there are usually five different answers on the support site all corresponding to different times in the product's development. You just have to try them all until you find the one that's still relevant. Not the most efficient use of time.

I always highly recommend HotJar as the first step in developing any tech stack. It's free, simple to implement and overall provides great insight into how users are navigating your website. On it's own, HotJar is rather limited but as part of a larger data strategy, it fits in perfectly.

Pros

Easy-to-use and provides immense value for it's cost (there's a free version for smaller companies). HotJar acts as a perfect complement to Google Analytics. Heatmapping and video recording provide a level of depth that Google Analytics can't provide and allows companies to truly understand their customers' experience.

Cons

Hotjar serves a very specific niche: the ability to better understand how a user navigates your website. It's hard to scale (there's a limited amount of video recordings you can have) and heatmaps only give you general, top-line insights.

Pros

Hotjar has many great features we use daily. We most use Hotjar to evaluate the customer traffic, tendencies/behavior, and surveying. Hotjar is an important tool for us in understanding our customers needs and actions so we can improve and provide a better experience.

Cons

The thing I liked least is that it does not integrate well with some of the other tools we use, like google analytics.

Almost a Must

Almost perfect, found some bugs while using it, but always had a good response from the customer team.

Pros

Hotjar is a tool that almost every optimizer or ux designer should use, no doubts. Is easy to use, cheap, and besides the famous heatmaps it has a lot of other functions like polls or user recordings. Also, the sharing function is great as you can share results with members of your organization that dont have an account.

Cons

Lacks some integrations with other tools. For example with Google Analytics, a very useful function would be showing the Events on the heatmap.

This takes the guesswork out of UX testing. The session recordings offer true insight into your users' experience and quickly demonstrates where improvements should be made.

Pros

Simple to implement this just works, giving you heatmaps and session recordings for true insight into how people use your site.

Cons

I'd like to be able to access my hotjar session recordings directly from Google Analytics. I think at the moment it only works the other way around.

Helpful UX tool for webpages

We've been able to evidence UX decisions to stakeholders: it's very handy when you need data to back up an intuition about, e.g., moving a button on a webpage.

Pros

It's incredibly easy to implement and to set up new pages for evaluation. We use the heatmap tool most often, but the video capture is also very useful. It's great when you want to A/B test web pages, or evidence a decision to stakeholders. The 'freemium' product licensing is also a bonus: try before you buy.

Cons

This product is exactly what it says it is. It's not going to replace user testing or Google Analytics, but it's a very handy adjunct to those tools.

A solid marketing intelligence tool to accurately identity UX/UI issues!

There were some apps that were causing UX/UI issues but we were able to discover them quickly using the heatmaps feature to see where the pages have interacted with the most.

Pros

We were struggling to see why some of the pages had an abnormally higher bounce rate, using Hotjar's services we were able to pinpoint the issues caused because of UX/UI apps

Cons

All happy here with the product, the team is quite satisfied with the reports we have received from Hotjar and we're the progress filter through Google Analytics, so quite satisfied!

I love me some Google Analytics, but Hotjar takes it to a whole new level. I love being able to see exactly where I'm losing people through the recordings tool! They have so many different tools available within Hotjar and they're pretty fantastic. Using the data you gather in Google Analytics and cross-checking it with Hotjar helps to get a full picture of what's going on on your website.

Cons

I wish there were a way to get a heatmap for more than just one page. I would love to get a holistic view of all of my blog posts' heatmaps, but I haven't found a way to do that without setting up a million different heatmaps. Still useful, just not as widespread as I might wish.

Hotjar has been critical to our micro analytics. We have been able to go through customer journeys at the most specific way possible. By being able to view the screen recordings (and its plethora of features within that!) along with heatmaps, we were able to test our website rapidly.

Hotjar provides you with the analytics that google analytics or backend website analytics will never be able to provide you with. I loved how intuitive and simple the platform was, and how we were able to get the plan up and running, and analyzing in real time! Another key feature is integration. We were skeptical at first as we thought it might slow down the website with extra code, but by integrating it with google tag manager we were able to get it up and running fast. The pricing is very reasonable and we mainly benefited from the advanced features in the screen recording session!

Cons

Sometimes the recordings failed to capture the specific nuances of the website. Essentially the website showed up differently on the recording page section.

Insights you won’t find on any free platforms and it’s the best value in its class. Pair it with Google Analytics and UTM tracking for a better picture of what people are doing on your website.

Cons

Recordings can take a little while to get through and can be tedious.

A must have tool for User Experience Analysts

UX plays a very important role for performance marketing and Hotjar is a brilliant tool which helps in collecting user behaviour data to do analysis and take corrective measures. Screen recordings is a great tool to understand why users are spending time on your website and why other are exiting the website without taking the intended action. A/B tests of website UX can be done in a very efficient manner using Hotjar.

Pros

The simplicity of implementation was the main thing that impressed me the most. Heat maps of user behavior on your sites is a critical input to any organization's digital strategy. Hotjar easily collects this data for quick visual analysis.

Cons

Integration with website analytics is important. We report all our numbers with our analytics tools but Hotjar's analysis has to be presented separately due to this issue.

Screen recording & heat maps made easy

My overall experience has been fantastic. The recordings are top quality and there are plenty of additional features and functions for those who want more. As someone that works in a marketing agency I also appreciate the fact I can house a number of clients underneath one login. I would, and do, recommend Hotjar to anyone who needs screen recording software.

Pros

This software is SO easy to use. All you need to do is add their javascript code to your site and hit go. I love seeing the recordings of my users and I appreciate that Hotjar has an option where you can speed up the recordings so I can see more and they indicate every time there is a scroll or click.

Cons

There isn't really anything that I don't like about. I do with that it would integrate with Google Analytics so I can view only recordings that completed a conversion objective. At the moment it's hard to see which recordings are more valuable.

Pros

Hotjar let you track the real behavior on your website - recording, heatmap, clickmap, survey tools, which you normally won't see on regular tracking like Google Analytics. It gives us a lot more insights about our visitors and helps with user experience design.

Cons

We're happy with what Hotjar offers. We haven't done integration so can't speak that part. maybe we can use a bit more customization on the survey tools.

An Incredible Tool for Tracking User Behaviour on a Website

Overall, amazing experience! Recommended to anyone who is into website optimisation, SEO, and technology!

Pros

The best part about this tool is it lets you see what your users are doing after landing on your website. Tools like Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics provides the best information on how you acquired the user but Hotjar shows you what the users are doing after coming through different channels! Webmasters use this data to analyse and fix the issues on their website. The implementation is easy and you can start collecting data from day 1.

Cons

Considering the number of benefits it has, its pricing is on a bit on the higher side. Also, I have used the Russian Tool - Yandex Metrica which provides the same amount of information for free. But if you have the budget, definitely go for it!

Pros

I have been using Hotjar for the past few months. It has opened another perspective that currently wasn't possible with Google Analytics, like creating heatmaps. It gave me deeper insight in what visitors do, click on and interact with. Based with this information, we have been able to refine our site. The process was easy to setup and the system is (once learned) easy to use.

Cons

Price. The personal plans (up to 20.000 pageviews/day) are great for smaller companies. But once you go over that, you'll have to pay hundreds of dollars a month. For that price, I'd like to see more functionality (like Google Analytics has (e.g. demographically interests, e-commerce tracking)).

I used Hotjar to get analytics on how users interacted with my website.

Pros

I loved my free trial of Hotjar. It was really interesting to watch the videos of each user that came to my site and to see how they interacted with it.

Cons

The pricing model was too high for the amount of traffic my website receives for me to justify the cost. Great product though and I would definitely consider it in the future.

We enjoy using Hotjar because it helps us derive qualitative web analytics in a streamlined fashion.

Pros

Love that this tool is free. Super easy to set up and integrate with practically any website. Data is pulled in right away.

Cons

Since we use the free version, there isn't much to not like about the tool. The only thing would be to make more paid features free. ;)

Premium Solution for Improving UX and UI

Setup is easy- you just add a small snippet of code to the backend and you are ready to go. Customer support has always been very helpful we had questions or needed special assistance.

Pros

Our company needed some user testing and session data after launching a new service with our clients that was in beta. The analytics and session recordings alerted us to so many issues that would have been looked over. Additionally, we constantly use the analytics and reports within Hotjar to identify areas of our website that could use improvement or are not being utilized by our customers. We are able to A/B test much more easily than with a product like Google Optimize. We are huge fans of Hotjar!

Cons

The session recordings are great but there is currently no way to label the recordings, type comments or group them and organize them. As a result, it is very difficult to have hard data and numbers behind what the majority of users are doing or to go back and reference a user session. We end up looking through several and making assumptions based on what we saw in that group rather than relying on hard facts or better analysis.

I really liked the idea of Hotjar: That you can easily track your user's use of your software through recordings. It really is mind-blowing to see this!

I think Hotjar could improve their site and dashboard UX, to make it more easy to understand and use.
