Pros

There are two things about Tableau that make it outstanding- first- the ease of use in creating visualizations from your data and second, the simplicity in learning how to use it.
Helps me with great insights on my user base and other helpful items, but I know I'm not reaching my potential in it. Maybe a Tableau training could help it feel more valuable to me.
Great product, you can be as creative as you want and the possibilities are endless. You can make your graph more detailed than what you could do in Excel.

Pros

Power Bi has revolutionized the BI industry, it is the best too in self-service BI. I have been using it for more than two years and it helps me in finding great insights about our business.
The Desktop Version is awesome, provides multiple connectors to different data sources and powerful modelling capabilities so that I format my data exactly how I want it.
First I like that it is very affordable, secondly support is great with Q&A options to help you navigate through it and finally I like the report customization options.

Cons

Large files takes a while to load and sometimes it will crash which is inconvenient. Since there is no auto-save function, you can lose your work if it crashes.
Due to my lack of familiarity in how to code, I was uncomfortable at first and found it difficult to learn.
M more a consumer of the analysis than a creator but we have been caught out when our data scientists accidentally did the wrong thing, and analysis showed something totally different to reality.

Cons

Personally, I have some trouble with the SQL. I get a tad bit confused on some of the tables to use but that is more personal human error.
Like any software that relies on the data entered, it is very much a situation of bad data in then bad data out.
It could get confusing to use at times. I also got annoyed that Power BI would constantly go down for long stretches... maybe that was our developer’s fault.

Tableau

Data Analysis and Reporting

Reviewed 2 years ago

Great experience, does not hang like other applications, easy to use.

Pros

Very user friendly, great training material available and powerful features for analyzing data to create dashboards. Reporting of data helps to collaborate with other teams.

Cons

A lot of similar applications like Spotfire, Microsoft Power BI in the space.

Tableau

Data analysis made symple

Reviewed a year ago

Tableau was really useful to organize marketing data insights and strategies.

Pros

Tableau is great for data analysis. His design is super user friendly , making easy to make connections and visualize dataset.

Cons

Compared to his competitors, such as IBM Watson and Microsoft Power BI, Tableau has space to improvement on his processing power. Sometimes, running complex analyzes makes the program slow.

Tableau

Amazingly intuitive once you play with it.

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

At first it seemed intimidating and then I watched a 20min overview video and saw how crazy easy it is to use and drill down into data to see what you need. The insights are powerful and the views just build themselves when you drag/drop fields. Crazy easy!

Cons

The cost is high, but it's for a reason. They are kind of "alone" in this field aside from something like Microsoft Power BI, which is a whole different animal in terms of use, but same in purpose.

Microsoft Power BI

Very nice and intutive visualization tool

Reviewed a year ago

I am a huge fan. The Power Query mashup tool that was added to excel and comes with Power BI is really simple to use and gives a novice the ability to do some moderately complex ETL.

Pros

Much more flexible and easy to use than Cognos or Tableau (although Tableau is really catching up with the Prep tool)

Cons

It is exceptionally slow if you do not constantly monitor and tweak for performance and they are very slow to make upgrades

Microsoft Power BI

Pretty good but not better than Tableau yet

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

All of the features are there and it integrates well with Excel

Cons

It's pricier than Tableau. Honestly, we've been using Tableau so long that it was going to be tough to convince us to switch without a price break.

Microsoft Power BI

Solid solution, consider alternatives

Reviewed a year ago

Decent enough solution. Check out alternatives such as Tableau.

Pros

Web-based software allows information and dashboards to be easily shared with co-workers, encouraging them to engage with data in an interactive fashion.

Cons

End users are not typically empowered to perform the sorts of drill-down or exploratory analytics that they may want without the report designer pre-building these scenarios in mind and making such dimensions available.

Microsoft Power BI

Great for financial reporting, dismal for timelines, gantts and other date related tracking.

Reviewed 6 months ago

Frustrating. Yes, there are thousands of examples and videos of how to create financial reports (or any number related data) but forget trying to use dates, statuses, Gantt, timelines, etc. I am tired of the community asking "Why do you want to track that?" Or "Oh, I don't think Power BI can do that."

Pros

The price was better than Tableau. Free Desktop software.

Cons

Complete lack of date tracking options. it's like MS had no clue or did not care people might actually want to track dates. (Think things like say, a global pandemic.) Sure, you can find free timeline templates but they only support a single start and end date. Want multiple dates in a swim lane? Get ready to shell out $$$$ for custom development. Also, who else but Microsoft would develop a VISUAL reporting tool that requires a command line tool to develop custom templates? As for the "visual" aspect, no problem as long you don't want custom shapes or colors. Overly cumbersome/complicated architecture. Lacks easy way to group by items. Very little drag and drop functionality. (See Tableau)

Microsoft Power BI

Overall the best Dashboard software at this moment

Reviewed a year ago

Part of our dashboards were developped using Power BI. Although the UI is not as perfect as Tableau, Basically it can achieve all Tableau can do, (maybe not as quick or few steps as Tableau).the modelling, the strong ETL support, the Power Query and integration with office can offset the drawbacks.

Pros

1. The wide and deep design and full support for upstream and downstream systems; 2. Excellent query engine with well design data modelling principals (which is better than Tableau); 3. Seamless integration with other Microsoft data integration products such as SSIS, SSRS, SSAS; 4. Excellent knowledgebase community and support; 5. Quick update to the Azure cloud support

Cons

1. UI design is a little bit inconvenient comparing to Tableau. 2. DAX is a bit complicated for power users.
