Tableau enabled us to build an interactive analytics dashboard. The HUGE feature is the ability to filter data across multiple dimensions by clicking the charts. 

For example, after building a pie chart visualization, click a segment of the pie and all the data is constrained to just that segment. Other related charts will also adjust since the base data that all the charts pull from is filtered.

Building these kind of interactions from scratch using web technologies like d3.js takes twice as long.

Overall, we're pleased with Tableau, but we'd like to see them invest more design and development energy into making their product easier to use for lower-end users.
