Shared task list for project management & collaboration

4.35/5 (1,543 reviews)

Asana is a task and project management solution that facilitates team collaboration and communication. Use Asana to create projects, and then to create tasks within these projects. Add your teammates to tasks and projects, add them as task followers, share projects with them or mention them in task comments to keep everyone in the loop.

Asana removes the need for email in order to communicate around projects. Share notes on task descriptions and upload attachment to tasks, follow and search public tasks, combine related tasks with one click, organize tasks by priority, establish your workflow, receive notifications on updates and task completions, add due dates to tasks, add followers to tasks, add hearts to tasks to show your gratitude.

Your Asana inbox is used to receive notifications on all task and project related activity such as when a task is assigned to you, if a task is due today, if someone has added you as a follower, if a task is updated or completed, if a due date us changed on one of your tasks, if someone adds a comment or if an attachment is added to one of the tasks your following.

Asana allows teams to share, plan, organize, and track the progress of the tasks that each member is working on. The multiple workspaces give you a place to organize multiple teams, projects and tasks and to stay abreast of progress without the need for back-and-forth email threads.

See, organize and manage the tasks and priorities for all your team members from one place. Keep updated on changes to tasks and task completions, leave comments, give feedback, upload attachments and set due dates. Delegate, prioritize and follow tasks and team members in a simple and clean way.

The Asana Mobile app for the iPhone provides native application access to a growing portion of Asana features. You can also add and access data in Asana programmatically through a simple REST API.

Most positive review

 Great piece of software

This package is very easy to use. We have 6 teams with 50 employees, and can have one large project, and can make sure that all subtasks are handled by the people they need to go to. Its very good.

Most critical review

 Not really a fan..

After over a year the enthusiasm has faded into clutter. It may not be Asana's fault, but as a tool to be more organized in your projects it has failed under weight of overloaded people that have too little time to address another tool that seems more like extra work than work reduction. It may ...

Excellent project management software

13/03/2017

Pros

Ease of use and good for tracking project health and timing. I like the intuitive interface and the fact it is online

Cons

Limited features sometimes. They add features but on a timed basis that I'm not totally sure that.

Very adaptable, a good thing and a bad thing

12/03/2017

What I like about Asana is it's ability to be used for a lot of different things - the user ends up deciding on the best organization of tasks and teams. Which is great if the person setting it up knows how to do that, but it can be really frustrating when it's being set up by someone who hasn't thought through the whole task. I strongly recommend taking advantage of their trainings and support to learn how to get the most out of this very adaptable tool.

Needs more features

12/03/2017

Pros

Easy to use between the app and online content. It all looks fairly similar between the online content and the app which makes locating information quite easy

Cons

I feel like there could be a lot more done with asana. E.G. Incorporating google docs or something like that into a project. E.G. As a music publisher, I enter details about a song for our team to then register to collect royalties etc. But I would like to create a form within ASANA so that I don't miss any details and the information is in a similar layout every time.

Horrible, well features are good, company organization makes it impossible to use

03/03/2017

Asana automatically assigns you to an org based on your domain, if someone else in your org already created an account, good luck getting admin access. Paid gives you no more, support is dismal.

Pros

The actual project planning tool is easy to use.

Cons

Everyone on the same domain is lumped into a new account. Wouldn't be a problem if they didn't push the free version so much.

You can not get around the domain issues with a paid account, their documentation implies otherwise.

Great for task management

01/03/2017

Really this is a great organizing platform. For almost 2 year I ran a small collaborative using Asana. My wife and I use it for everything from grocery lists to who's packing what for vacations. At a certain point though Asana becomes more cumbersome when you are working in diverse areas. And we had problems trying to keep it simple enough for clients to be on and track progress. They offer some great stuff. And if you're using a normal or slim focused business structure and services then do it. Go for it. You'll be happy.

Pros

Quick to learn, reports, integrations, cross-collaborations, organization, drag-n-drop, mobile app, push service, simplicity

Cons

There's a cap on the expansion possibilities. A few minor additions to their core would improve everything.

Simple at first look; but packed with features you learn as you go along

01/03/2017

I've been using Asana for two years now to manage projects for a web development company, and I've been incredibly impressed with the features and capabilities throughout. When I first started with Asana, I definitely thought it would be too simple to manage what I needed - however, with all of the plethora of features and options to sort tasks, assign, manage, attach details, and see the results, I've been extremely pleasantly surprised. It's simple enough that you can add a task in a few seconds (whereas with other task management systems it would require you to ) Additionally, it links with all kinds of third party software - Slack, Freshdesk, Zapier, Google Drive and Trackduck are just a couple of the integrations we've tried. We've considered moving to other softwares a few times, but just can't seem to let it go - and there's a reason for that!

Pros

It's super easy to add a new task - you can do it in two clicks from any page within Asana. However, it's also complex enough to organize templates, manage schedule and workflow for multiple people and multiple projects, and support multiple kinds of project management methodology.

Cons

I'd like to see the main view - each person's Incomplete Tasks view - built out more, allowing for more easy prioritization rather than just Today, Upcoming and Later. With all the tasks I have, those three ways to categorize my own tasks aren't enough, especially when you are dealing with a LOT of tasks per day.
