Gsuite beats Office 365

2017-07-25

If you own a small business forget Office 365. G Suite is all you will ever need. The integrations are far cheaper then Office 365 and the learning curve is not as steep

Pros

I will always love sharepoint.

Cons

Google are primarily engineers. If you want a polished overpriced product, stay with Microsoft.

Recently switch from O365

2018-11-01

Excellent for sharing files and collaborating on documents

Pros

Much prefer GSuite and their collaboration tools over O365 and Sharepoint. So easy to send and receive emails and share docs within the org and with other members of the team.

Cons

Gmail page layout and new UI is much more difficult to navigation than old.

A great alternative for your company's email

2018-07-26

Pros

G Suite is very easy to use. I have a few clients who use G Suite and I rarely have to troubleshoot problems. You have your choice of domain and you can manage your users from one particular log in (imagine Microsoft Office 365, but a lot less features). G Suite's basic features allow users to check their email and perform basic Office like tasks (mail, documents, calendar, cloud backup). Google Drive is a great alternative to OneDrive. You can manage G Suite on your phone too. I highly recommend G Suite for smaller sized corporations needing a foot in the door without all the technical bells and whistles.

Cons

Don't count on the luxury of having all your programs together in one package, which is ideal for large corporations who want the software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint all on one network.

G Suite is What Office 365 Users Dream About

2018-05-11

Pros

I love G Suite or at one time called Google Apps. It is the best way to set up your business's email. You get so much for a month. Personally, I love Gmail way more than outlook and office 365. I like that you get a sold cloud storage of 30gb and all the apps to help you run your business. It makes it easy to collaborate and add new users as well. Overall just a much better system than office 365.

Cons

Office 365 struggles with the same thing in SharePoint. You have to have access, etc. to be able to open it half the time and it makes you look bad in front of clients.

Collaboration suite of tools is a game-changer

2017-12-21

Pros

My team uses Drive and the productivity tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) almost daily, and the ease of collaboration/sharing has been eye-opening since I come from a Sharepoint/Office environment were files were constantly being emailed back and forth.

Cons

Searching in Google Drive could be better (searching by default returns all results, instead of within the current folder).

Great if your business isn't MS Office dependent

2018-10-19

Also, while MS Office and MS/Sharepoint administrators will swear that Sharepoint is the only way to collab, the truth is, it sucks.

Pros

The cost is far better than competitors and everything works together seamlessly as a suite of apps. Even MS Office 365 could learn a few lessons. It is simply more intuitive and easy to start. You can easily get to an actual human unlike OneDrive "support". It syncs better to mobile devices than MS. You don't need an IT department to administer, setup, and use this product. Works as the back-end for Squarespace email, etc.

Cons

It isn't MS Office based, therefore, if you use a lot of MS Office documents, such as Excel, Word, etc., it converts it to Google Docs when using via web. This makes using the Drive storage not quite as user friendly. You can open it in Office directly to keep functionality, but if you are attempting to open it via web like Office 365, it will be Google Docs based. This isn't a huge problem if you are a company or school that is Chrome OS based, or not terribly dependent on MS Office, but if you are, this may be a non-starter. Some IT departments may also complain. That said, I did work at a mid-sized company (500+ employees) that relied on MS Office a lot, and we still utilized the G Suite for all of our staff. Took a learning curve, but that was it. Not as robust as Office products, especially Excel and Outlook.

A Grown-Up Product Facing Existential Crisis.

2018-08-10

SharePoint does a lot but doesn’t any one task exceedingly well. Its traditional strength as a collaboration platform has been surpassed by other modern offerings. The ability to leverage metadata and views remains a slight unique advantage. As an authoring platform (eg Wikis), SharePoint is truly showing its mileage and old age.

Pros

SharePoint, especially when bundled with Office 365, is great bang for bucks. No other collaboration platform offers tighter integration with MS Office on this planet (yet). For a Microsoft-centric organization running Active Directory (AD) and Exchange, SharePoint conveniently offers 20% of the features that 80% of end-users need.

Cons

Real-time collaboration unbelievably still lags behind G Suite. Recent releases have made rapid improvements to catch up, but lockout issues arise frequently.
