Work with Sheets anywhere

Reviewed 3 years ago

It's very useful to work with numbers and text. I use it to make Google Ads keyword combinations and much more and upload it to Google Ads. It's very nice to get a online xml feed and put it in a sheet in an easy way.

Pros

You can work anywhere, it's fast and reliable (don't loose your work because the internet is down). You can use it with data from online sources, like xml, csv and others. Have a very good API, you can automate many process from your computer, smartphone or cloud. You can use Google Scripts to increment your formulas. It's free, with all features. You can share (and work at same time with other people) your sheets in a easy way.

Cons

Could be slower in case of many data and complex formulas. Do not have a good support (I think it only have online forums).

Great collaboration tool to collate and share data

Reviewed 3 months ago

Really useful for dropping data into, and checking/editing on the fly from mobile, sharing results or sheets with colleagues

Pros

Editing with collaborators and sharing results, even at the same moment. We also import Google Forms data and integrate with Zapier to create docs and pdfs,

Cons

Every now and then, there's something you can do in excel that sheets won't do, but this happens way less often now. Lots of new functionality

Forgets Basic Formatting Features

Reviewed 2 years ago

It's nice to have data access everywhere. It's not nice to have to constantly reformat data whose format should never change. As you can see, the Cons outweigh the Pros for my use.

Pros

Ease of use-Feature clone of MS Excel. Being familiar with Excel makes it easy to use.Accessibility-Anywhere you have a computer and internet access you can access program & data.

Cons

It doesn't remember basic settings. I decided to setup a checkbook register so I could update it online. Sheets is sporadic in remembering format settings such as :1. Date column format (99/99/99)2. Money column format ($9999.99)3. Money column format (debits bold, red)4. Money column format (credits bold, green)5. Doesn't remember last location. A checkbook register gets lots of entries! I have to Hide hundreds of rows, then Unhide them all if I want to look for one entry from last month, then Hide them all again for daily data entry. This makes it unwieldy for data manipulation..I never know what it's going to remember and what it's going to forget. In Excel I set and forget; Excel remembers formats ALL THE TIME. Sheets does not.

Really good and useful product

Reviewed 3 months ago

Good. It has been very useful, I have used it in different jobs for the last 8 years.

Pros

Very similar to MxExcel, easy to use with all the features. Free not paid, easy to access the info by every member of the same team.

Cons

A few commands, and features are very different from MsExcel and it took me a while to find ways to do a few things.

Google Sheets 10/10

Reviewed 3 months ago
Pros

I love the ease of use- easily manage data, compute calculations, and conduct analysis. It also is a useful tool for organization. Working in a foster agency it helps keep track of who signed up for what services, how many people signed up etc. It is also free to use and easily accessible via the web as well as offers offline access.

Cons

Overall, I prefer Google sheets over excel. However, one con is that excel at times does have more advanced features. However, google sheets is perfect for what I need it for.

Conveniently share spreadsheets to your team with Google Sheets

Reviewed 5 years ago

Running a business involves a lot of records in spreadsheet format that needs to be shared with people in the team. Being able to collaborate on spreadsheets real-time is a huge time saver which is what our team love about Google Sheets. And with the History feature, it is very easy to track who made what change and when.

Pros

I like that I am able to collaborate with my team in creating and updating spreadsheets for our company's financial records and other data that needs to be recorded

Cons

I don't like that I am not able to use the Ctrl+Shift+V feature when I am on incognito mode. I use a lot of browsers when working and always open them in incognito to make them load faster. There are data that I need to enter in a spreadsheet which also involves ensuring that the newly entered data follows the existing formatting of the spreadsheet, and I had to open a new window that is not in incognito to be able to do that.

A great tool

Reviewed 5 years ago

Google Sheets is a great spreadsheet editing tool. Integration with other Google products makes activities much easier. Multi-member sharing and online editing is one of the best features. In basic usage, Google Sheets easily replaces other traditional tools.

Pros

Lots of features. Integration with other Google services. Possibility of sharing and editing by several people. Possibility of offline viewing. Very good performance. Automatic features.

Cons

I feel that some features like formulas, advanced filtering features, still need to be available. The graphics are not well positioned when I have a vertical split.

Shareable Yet Secure

Reviewed 4 years ago

My work as Treasurer has been greatly streamlined by the sharing capability of Sheets. I've consolidated all our non-profit's data into a few files in Sheets, accessible by the entire Board, and easily transferred to the next Treasurer. My Board of Directors can utilize the Comment feature for questions and comments. We also like resolving queries using the Comment feature, enabling multiple Board Members to contribute and find solutions in real time without meeting in person.

Pros

With Sheets I am able to update my Board of Directors instantly on the state of the organization's finances, membership, and needs. I can easily upload older documents from Excel, and our bookkeeping is centralized. It is easily transferrable to the next Treasurer without paper or thumb drives.

Cons

Although it's a close substitute, Sheets doesn't always behave as Excel. For subtotals and analysis, I often download to Excel to set up more complex spreadsheets. I don't always have time to figure out how to perform the same work in Sheets when it doesn't follow the same work path as Excel.

Sheets for everybody

Reviewed 3 years ago

Switching to Google Sheets has simplified so much my days. We now just share links and book mark them for as long as we need, which is so much more easier that keep sending files and integrating changes from one person to another. Best thing is that switching to Google Sheets won't stop you from sharing all that data with other coworkers that are not using it. First, they don't need any special software to see the files. Second, if they really don't want to use it, you can save a local version of the file in the format you want. Almost magic! I'm not planning to go back ever again!

Pros

I can apply all the knowledge I have from the previous software I was using! And it's even better: all the formulas are so much more easy to understand and it even has extra formulas that add additional functionalities. The possibility of have a single document where all my team can keep working at the same time and see all the changes in real time is just insane. It's all you knew with a twist for better. Additionally, it's all part of Google Drive so your files will be there for you, anytime, anywere. That has saved my life more times that I can count. Finally, you can save your gsheet files as any other common format that you would like, or better, you can just use the share option and send the link. No more heavy attachments, it's all in the cloud!

Cons

For very specific situations, I've found that edge case where I wanted to code a macro. It's possible but I haven't found documentation on how to do it. It's not like other competitors offer a lot of stepy-by-step documentation but they have been out there for so long that you can put together all the articles on the internet to eventually figure out how to do what you need. Secondly, it's not good to handle very large files (200k rows and up), especially if they include a formula. It sometimes blocks editing until all the changes are applied and saved to the cloud, and it's not a hardware issue--even with a gaming grade pc happens.

very good for being free

Reviewed 3 years ago

Google Sheets transformed the way I work collaboratively, moving much of my work from the classic spreadsheets to the free, collaborative online version of G-Sheets. But still, for convenience and ease of use, I have some of my spreadsheets in Excel (synchronized with Google Drive, but that functionality is for a separate review).

Pros

The application has several positive aspects, but the first to highlight is that it is free! The comparison always arises between this app and Excel. Google Sheets is more limited than the latter, but it has enough functions to replace Microsoft in low-medium complexity tasks. Something that stands out with respect to the desktop versions of Excel is the possibility of sharing the document and working it between several people simultaneously remotely.

Cons

It does not carry the same functionalities or they are not implemented in the same way as in Excel. And let's face it, most of the people who use this application previously used Microsoft on its desktop version. Adapting to tasks other than the simplest requires some work. It is also more limited in terms of functionalities.

Easy to use alternative to Excel

Reviewed 2 years ago

We use it for a lot more than crunching numbers. For instance, we have 300+ items we hire out, and we use Sheets to keep track of who has them booked and when (like a Gantt chart). The fact that we can all work on this sheet simultaneously makes Sheets work when an offline version of Excel wouldn't. That said, Office 365 would allow a similar experience.

Pros

The collaboration options within a team are game changing. No more save, attach and send - everyone's aligned on the same sheet at the same time. You don't realise how much work and confusion this elimiates until you switch to it.

Cons

Its strength is its weakness. It's quite a cut down alternative to Excel, which makes it easy to use, but if you want to do something advanced or nuanced then you may find the feature you want is missing. Luckily you can export to Excel and carry on there if you want to. We very rarely have to. Collaboration also requires the other users to have Google accounts. Sometimes you just want to share with someone when you don't know if they have one or not. And they may have one, but not using the email address you assumed they did, which means they have to make an access request. It could be easier.

Very flexible app for teamwork

Reviewed 5 months ago

Overall, I still prefer it because of the flexibility I get from working with it. It's free and easily accessible - after all, who doesn't like freebies?

Pros

Google Spreadsheets significantly reduces a lot of stress switching between desktop and Chrome browsers during work- We use it all the time for contact listing and management. For me, it's an impeccable app because it's cloud-based. I can easily perform my daily copy and paste without hassles. It's not perfect, however, it's better than my old days excel. Our team works with it a lot because it lets us easily share files among ourselves, collaborate on particular projects, and synch our workflow seamlessly. No need to install any resource-consuming app on my desktop, no need to regularly do "CRTL + S" to save my work - no more of this stress.

Cons

It's a little limited in features. Could be very hard to use formulae and do my habitual formatting like I used to do in Excel.

Great Functionality, Great Tool

Reviewed 6 years ago

As a whole, Sheets is helpful for various business functions from budgets and inventory, to organization of lists, SKUs, and entire databases of data. Along with the other applications of G Suite, Sheets is a time saver and easy to use. Even for the common person with a regular Gmail account, the use of Sheets to organize financial information, plan events, or prioritize tasks is incredibly helpful.

Pros

Google Sheets is a fantastic and free software app of G suite. It offers basically the same functionality as Excel Spreadsheets, without the necessity of Microsoft Office. Its design (using the same formula functions and structure as Excel) allows users familiar with Excel to use Sheets with ease. An added benefit is the Google Forums that let users consult other users for support and formula FAQ. Sheets...

Cons

With the frequent updates and the availability of support from both Google and other users, it's difficult to find notable faults with Google Sheets. The addition of being able to live chat with support in real time would be beneficial for issues that require time-sensitive assistance, but overall, Sheets' support options are well structured and helpful.

An Obvious Choice for a Modern Office Tooling

Reviewed 5 years ago

Overall Google Sheets has been an excellent tool to use when considering it as an accompaniment to Microsoft Office. Even as a stand alone tool this is a fantastic addition to any company willing to fork out for user licensing in the full G-Suite platform. I wouldn't recommend this for traditional companies with staff that struggles with modernization and rapid development. I also don't believe G-Suite is necessary for traditional companies to be effective with traditional platforms. This tool is not absolutely necessary in any company but it is without a doubt an excellent add-on for companies looking to use modern processes to share common tabular-cell data sets more rapidly than you can with traditional platforms.

Pros

This software is baked right into your Google ecosystem and is widely used. It's available via web app or you can download a Google App of it to make offline edits. It's clean, clear, and concise and lacks all of the necessary UI you find in competing tabular cell based software. Edits are made live 95% of the time and it is a highly reliable web application provider so connectivity is the last...

Cons

This tool is not yet capable as a full on replacement for traditional office tools. Formulae are difficult to work with and in many cases not as effective as many that are built into more traditional office tools. There is not enough current integration to use this as a stand alone desktop application and there aren't currently enough built-in file types that can be opened from the desktop. Traditional management and effective but not-young staff may find adopting to Google's processes difficult. Offices with staff engrained with Microsoft Office knowledge may lose parts of this invaluable knowledge and efficiency if switching entirely to this platform.

Alex Esposito's review

Reviewed 4 years ago

Google Sheets is a great product, I can't see myself going back to Excel any time soon. The cloud aspect where I can edit in real time, and see others' updates in real time, is an unparalleled feature. In terms of collaboration abilities, Google Sheets is second to none. I've been using it since I was a student in college; I've been in the workforce for over 3 years now and have yet to find a reason to switch back to Excel. As they say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" :)

Pros

Google Sheets is a great product. I love the fact that I am able to share files with my colleagues with such ease, and the ease of access to edit any sheet that I have permissions on. Being able to just go into Google and access the latest updates and versions of my work, versus having to keep track of a bunch of files on my desktop/outlook without knowing if they are even the latest version, is like night and day. This makes the workday run a lot smoother for me and my team.

Cons

There are a few formatting issues I've run into, ones that I don't normally run into if I were using Excel. Also the sharing settings can be a bit finicky sometimes, I have had instances where the people I shared with got locked out for no apparent reason. Overall, I feel these are minor bugs that don't sway my opinion on what is otherwise a great product.

Best web based spread sheet service available today

Reviewed 4 years ago

I couldn't operate without Sheets. It there for me any time I need it.

Pros

Sheets constantly gets easier to use and regular feature updates are a welcome breath of fresh air over rigid desktop based applications. The Sheets addon marketplace is full of amazing enhancements, many of which are free. I use the service daily for all kinds of reports and calculations. Thanks to its interconnection to other Google apps I can easily tie in data from other apps and to other apps....

Cons

The learning curve for people familiar with Excel's UI can be challenging at first. Also getting used to the idea that the file lives in the cloud and can only be edited on a browser is a challenging concept for some people to understand.

Best product in this category

Reviewed 4 years ago

It haa been great. Ive completely replaced all other spreadsheets software in my company with Google Sheets.

Pros

The ease of use, the fact that there is infinity undo’s, a timeline of all the changes youve made to the document, the query function as well as the importrange function make this product the most versatile program out there. In my opinion its a mix of excel, and database software wth a very nice ease of use.

Cons

I wish this software would allow to lock some cells from being able to be modified by the creator of the document. I think thats just nitpicking though cause its difficult to find flaws.

Customized Business Processes & Collaboration

Reviewed 6 years ago

I have eliminated the need for two full time positions as I have virtually automated their data entry functions with interconnected sheets and data import functions.

Pros

I use google sheets quite heavily, in fact I would say that Gsuite @/User/Month accounts for half of our software solutions I use for the company. At 1/17th the cost of the other half of our software solutions. Sheets is so much more than a spreadsheet software. The instant collaboration and sharing /security /publishing features turn a static spreadsheet into a vibrant work space, that with some basic...

Cons

There are only a few things that come to mind when considering shortfalls. One major thing for me is the inability for a user that has the ability to edit a column or range (but not the full sheet) to use a filter on that column. I have solved this issue by creating separate sheets and using import range (so native data cannot be harmed) and allowing users that I would like to allow to filter to have editing access to that entire sheet. They can then apply filters to display the data that has been imported. However, they have to frequently update/reapply these filters as they do not update dynamically as the native data is added or changed.

A Million Times Better Than Excel

Reviewed 3 months ago

Read above. I adore google sheets. It's the best program I have ever used.

Pros

Google sheets is better at collaboration and sharing, is a lot more user friendly, and is more intuitive than Excel has ever been or will be for the foreseeable future. The last time I tried to use the shoddy online sharing version of Microsoft, it made you reload the spreadsheet a number of times if more than one person was using it, which led to a ton of hassle and lost work. That has NEVER happened...

Cons

I literally can't think of anything. I use it every day, and they are constantly coming up with new additions to compare to any functions excel has that they don't yet.

Better than Excel

Reviewed 8 months ago

I love Google Sheets. I've had an incredible experience with Google Sheets. It's super convenient and user-friendly.

Pros

I absolutey love Google Sheets. I'm a very experienced and long-time user of Excel and have always loved it. However, after using Google Sheets - I'm a big fan. I was surprised - I figured it would be more limited than Excel, but it has all the functionality of Excel. Imports/exports into or from Excel are easy and convert easily with little to no complications. My favorite thing about Google Sheets...

Cons

I don't have any cons for Google Sheets. The only annoying thing is it can have network issues but it's very rare and you can download the sheet and work offline.

Great alternative to Excel for spreadsheet collaboration

Pros

The ability to share it with other team members is excellent. I love the way it can be styled, and the ability to add Google's "chips" to it for extra context is nice too. Being Cloud first means it's easy to access from anywhere, and the mobile interface is usable too.
