Using Hipchat

2019-01-04

Instead of using outlook skype which is less user friendly hipchat makes it easier to chat between departments

Pros

I like the easiness of creating new group chats, tagging people, and the ability to connect to jira and bamboo

Cons

I don't like how buggy it is. It freezes frequently, I don't like how i can't search the chats within the desktop app

Great for Team Collaboration

2018-03-13

collaboration

Pros

I enjoy the ability to chat with coworkers while also being able to set up my own "rooms." We have it separated by teams and has proven very useful.

Cons

The video chat feature is sub-par to something like Skype. It does drop calls, but works for the most part.

Good chat messenger if you don't have Skype

2018-08-19

I would not recommend to use it if you are a business owner. But, if you cant afford MS Office products they this is good alternative. It fills basic purpose of communication but it fails to interact with user as product. For example, in my office people prefers to go over personally instead of sending message on HipChat.

Pros

I have used Skype for business before i had to use Hipchat.

Cons

It has many little software bugs which is very annoying. Sometimes you need to click contacts 3-4 times to send messages. Pop up messages for updates keep on showing even if you do the updates. For modern day chat messenger, it kind of lacks the appearance. Plus, there is not collaboration with office365 so if your email is running in outlook then you cant see status of other employees in outlook. You also have to configure mobile app to get notification properly.

Improved office communication and project discussions drastically

2018-07-05

Pros

My office moved over to Hipchat from Skype for in office instant messaging, as well as communicating with various heads in other departments about projects on the go.

Cons

There was a bit of a learning curve as we were all coming off Skype which we were so used to.

Works great for inter-company communication

2018-07-25

Pros

It makes communication amongst my company convenient and easy. You can communicate one on one or by creating public / private groups to discuss amongst branches of the company.

Cons

HipChat should implement more communication features so that I don't have to use other applications like Skype / Google Hangout for screen sharing and video chats.

Easy to use collaboration tool

2018-12-26

Pros

It's simple and serves its main purpose well without a lot of performance issues that other chat apps have. Skype seems so clunky in comparison!

Cons

I already have about 5 other chat apps on my machine to collaborate with project team members and developers, and really don't need another one that doesn't add any new features.

Ugh

2018-07-03

Pros

I prefer Skype or Slack over Hipchat any day!!!

Cons

When you hit the notifications it is so slow to load. You have to wait for the conversation to load before you can reply.

Does What It Needs To Do

2018-12-19

It's reliable enough - it's just boring. If that doesn't matter to you, then go ahead and use it. It does everything you need it to do, from sharing files to initiating private chats with colleagues.

Pros

HipChat is a reliable way to communicate with clients via chat. It's got a pretty intuitive interface, and it's easy enough to use.

Cons

The interface isn't slick - when you put it up against Slack or Skype, you realize that there's a lot more that can be done to add a little life to the UI.

Great alternative to Skype

2014-12-13

We were using Skype internally but outgrew it.

Pros

Great native apps. Lots of integrations. Simple Reset API.

Cons

Have noticed if logged in on a bunch of devices new message notifications sometimes don't get seen.

I have adapted to HipChat but probably not my favorite IM tool.

2018-04-20

Pros

I came from Skype and Slack but have adjusted to this tool.

Cons

I would like an easier way to have a group chat without having to setup a room. I would also like an easier way to set and show your current status.

Great Office Chat Solution!

2018-07-12

Internal Chat where employees can stay focused.

Pros

We used to use SKYPE a lot, but the problem with that was that employees would be chatting with their friends and family.

Cons

Don't really have any complaints. It's pretty straight forward. Sometimes it is hard to add and remove employees, modify settings - but not impossible!

Skype for Business is a great interoffice chat client that is easy to administer

2019-04-02

We use this software for quick and easy interoffice communication.

Poor cross-platform support

2017-03-14

Having such a complex solution in 2017 is not ideal; would highly recommend looking elsewhere (Slack, Hipchat) unless you're wedded to the Microsoft stack.

Pros

Integrates well with the Microsoft Outlook email client. Decent Windows client. Relatively straight-forward user interface. Beta version on Mac is looking increasingly promising.

Cons

Support of current version on Mac (Lync 2011) is deplorable; very poor connectivity and integration with operating system. Beta version on Mac crashes. Inconsistent behavior with regards to online status between versions. Mobile apps have numerous dependencies which make the product very difficult to recommend.

Skype is far behind than other tools that are out there

2019-01-09

Pros

Skype is good tool to communicate with friends. Still it is good for that. You can video with Skype in workplace that is still a good thing. I guess it's also cheaper compared to other business tool. I have seen Offshore Indian teams still use Skype.

Cons

There are way better tools like Slack, Hipchat. They have more features, better syncing of web and mobile.

A perennial failure, but included so it's just a value add for most organizations.

2018-02-21

Pros

It's skype and it's lync, but that's where the good ends because Microsoft has destroyed both of these beloved things. It's a good value add with the Office 365 suite, but only as a "we'd rather not pay for a good alternative solution".

Cons

Slack, HipChat, give me anything else please.
