Overall, a robust and powerful utility for data analysis. Despite the existence of free solutions, such as Apache OpenOffice, this is an excellent tool for any business with data preparation needs.
Powerful and well-laid out software allows simple to complex analysis of spreadsheet data input. Figure generation, especially, is where this software really...excels. Additionally, spreadsheets may be saved to a multitude of formats for export.
Some functions are difficult to use, and even the figure production can be difficult if you don't approach it exactly as the developers intended. Some learning curve definitely exists.

It is the best spreadsheet out there. User-friendly and has all the functions you will need.
The price is what I like the least because there are free ones out there, like Apache OpenOffice, that can do at par with MS Excel. They should lessen it since you have to pay every year.

My overall experience is very good, despite prices, here in Argentina it's very expressive, when you have competition like OpenOffice.
It's the best of the best for Math and complex math operations, easy copy and paste, grafics are the best, they're really easy to use.
I don't like that not run very fast sometimes, consumes a lot of memory. And I don't fine easy to use shearing files, you could improve that.

While Excel is a must have, to get license is quite expensive since now we have free software by Apache.

just alone The setup, of an Excel spread sheet can be a little confusing at times. Not to mention that they still need to learn how to use it. it's most likely a nightmare, I would not recommend it For most newbie users
makes it possible to create the most professional spread sheets . it's endless on how the long list of all of the possible add-ins you can add, it's great accounting software. nothing beats a good spreadsheet
it's not free. you can just go, and use Openoffice,or Google Docs as a good Excel alternative for free!.

Its a great product of MS. Please introduce functionality to edit pdf files as we could do that in Openoffice or libraoffice.
Its easy to use. I can create my MIS very fast also can user formulas superbly.
When I work with multiple sheets some time it goes in busy state and another thing suppose I have copied a cell from excel to somewhere and come back to excel the earlier copied cell keeps still in copied state that is some times annoying.

Positive. I have used many substitutes and alternatives including Google Sheets, Numbers, OpenOffice, and LibreOffice but Excel keeps coming back around every time.
It has come along way in the decade and a half I have been using it. The newest implementation seems to be geared more towards the end-user than ever before. Usability with software is paramount to having a successful application. Microsoft has had ups and downs over the years but this one is obviously in an upswing.
It's not so much the software's fault, but I really wish there were more hints and help with the basic use of formulas. I always slack when it comes to that. Numbers for Mac seems to have an advantage over Excel in this department.

Great for small data-based projects. Basic data analysis functionality and visualization tools.
Ability to systematize data and build simple mathematical models. Really like to fill columns/rows using some patterns and mathematical formulas - saves so much time. I also used VB-based macros features in the past, but it's not very practical anymore, as we have much more powerful tools, such as Python. Excel is some sort of a standard in the industry, so it is easy to share files with others.
It is not free. I use MS Excel only when working for another company and they have a license. For my own projects I use OpenOffice instead.

I think it is the best options for spreadsheets out there. There are other options like OpenOffice and a few other free ones, but excel is the best.
I like easy it is to create spreadsheets. The UI is the same Microsoft UI you would expect. It works well.
I don't like that you cannot purchase the software separately from the Microsoft Office suite. It would be advantageous to be able to purchase the pieces of software that each individual needs.

One of the best software for doing math with detailed figures and tables. one of the essential software for every company must have and it reduces plenty of time to do company day to day financial works. On the other hand, it helps to complete some projects works with effective manner (bar schedules and BOQ preparations, etc..)
Easy to do several calculations with one specific code and easy to program. The GUI is pretty awesome and well organized. The plenty of functions including inside this software for several kind of users.
It does not contain a database for itself and while storing large sizes of data, it was annoying. Some different kind of file extensions still not supported here(eg: OpenOffice calc).

Excel is the de facto standard when it comes to spreadsheets, but it's quickly losing market share to free office apps like OpenOffice and Google sheets, which often give identical performance and features for no cost.
The biggest issue with excel right now is collaboration between users is not as seamless as Google sheets. It wasn't really built from the ground up for real time collaboration, so that functionality is kind of just tacked on.

I believe that every professional should have Excel in his programs' portfolio. Other alternatives, such as OpenOffice or Google Sheets might be cheaper/free, but do not include nearly as much functionalities as Excel does.
We use Excel across our entire organization, from our customer support department to our Operations one. Its use varies, from simple functionalities, like predefined functions (sum, averages, etc), to custom formulas and vlookup functions. It manages to excel across the range. The fact that it has a familiar layout and look and feel in relation to other Microsoft products, as well as being the de-facto format for sharing spreadsheets, are add-ons to its value.
It can be quite heavy to perform certain tasks, especially in very large documents. Also, while being relatively straightforward to perform basic tasks, it can get quite difficult to move to the next level and utilize it to a greater extent. As such, you have to spent a lot of time to research how to do certain actions, and you feel like you are missing on a lot.

My bosses were using OpenOffice to save some money but they finally broke down and paid the license. For the most part, clean lines and does it job, which is all I ask of any software.
Served its purpose. Not a lot of clutter for all the features offered.
Not nearly as intuitive as I would like. Formatting cells the wrong way causes serious time-consuming headaches but that's as much my hurrying as the software.

Everyone nowadays uses Excel. It's a program that all of our users have some knowledge of using and it has plenty of features available for even our more advanced users. In addition, it works across various operating systems.
I think the major con to this program is the price. I have used LibreOffice and OpenOffice in the past and they have both worked just as well as Excel, but they are free opposed to a per-user license for Excel.

Have been using Microsoft Office productivity suite for over 30 years (prior to that Lotus-123), and Excel has indeed come a long way. It meets all my requirements for number-crunching and graphing in particular, and Microsoft has steadily chipped away at its limitations as commodity hardware becomes more affordable (remember the 65,536 line limitation?). Highly recommended as the defacto spreadsheet software.
- Tables, math, graphs, number crunching, you name it - Excel has you covered - Easy to use (have been using spreadsheets since the Lotus-123 days - remember that one?) - Does the job
Can't really think of any currently - there are obviously competitors in the market (both cloud and on-premise, like Google Docs and OpenOffice respectively), but for spreadsheet-like functionality everyone who uses a computer would have been exposed to Excel or the Microsoft Office productivity suite.

Microsoft Excel has been the standard for decades when it comes to spreadsheets. Free online versions of competitors or even installed local competitors like OpenOffice just can't compete if you are doing extensive formulas. For basic use, there are many options, but for formulas and VB Macros and such, stick with this.
It isn't free? Well parts of it are with online apps anymore... but really it's pretty reliable, robust, and as complicated as you want it to be or as simple as you want it to be... Shopping list? Check. 300 tab document with pivot tables and custom macros? Check.

Because I was using a free software prior, I never realised that the format was coming out different when I would send people spreadsheets until I received documents and they where all jumbled up, so I eventually bit the bullet and bought microsoft office. It has just made it easier, I don't have to fix up spreadsheets sent to me before I actually look at it.
It is the easiest spreadsheet software around. I use it nearly every day. I've used other software before but this is straight forward and the format does not change like other ones,
I used to use apache open office which was a free software similar to microsoft office. So it did take a little bit of time to figure it out as there are a lot of extra features on excel but nothing a quick google search wasn't able to resolve

It makes my administrative and accounting life easier
Started using Excel when I was just a student then now, I am using it both in my job for tabulating calculations and data and in my personal needs for tracking family budget and expenses. This software has become my mini-accounting tool. It allows me to do arithmetic operations, customize sheets according to my needs, use pivot tables to sort out / filter my data for reporting. It also speeds up my tasks as a wife and mom in calculating my family's budget allocation and keeping track of our expenses. In excel, you can actually develop what you want, from creating a template, to small scale database/system by applying macros/functions.
I almost have no cons with this software except with it's incompatibility with MAC. If I wanted to use with another application like Linux, I could not use it. There are other tool (such as OpenOffice) that can open Excel but then some formatting/formulas are removed.

If you are a power user or engineer, I highly recommend Excel. It just works.
As an engineer, power user, and custom function writer, I've tried out OpenOffice/StarOffice, Google Sheets, and various others spreadsheet programs over the years. Excel is hands-down the most capable, versatile, extensible, feature-rich spreadsheet program I've come across. The add-ins I write would not work in any of the other spreadsheet programs I've tried. The other spreadsheet programs still lack the features or the back-end programmability.
It seems to have slowed down a little in the interface since earlier versions, but some of that is probably just my impression due to the interface animations. The actual calculations are still plenty fast.

Excel has been around for a long, long time now so they really know what they are doing. Most services have become easier and more streamlined to use after they've been around for a while, but Excel has a steeper learning curve. I've used it for a long time from working in data entry and now I use it for teaching (I make graphs and for grading).
I really don't like the subscriptions service (6.99 per month) and it seems like Microsoft really pushes this. They've gotten better before. If you are like me, you may not like this push to subscription services, but at the same time, know that they do have a non subscription option for $139.99. You can find free versions of this like Google Sheets and Apache Open Office, Base.

Apache OpenOffice is free, which is an excellent trait for someone just wanting to create word processing and spreadsheet documents without having to purchase Microsoft Office.
I encountered numerous issues when converting Microsoft Word and Excel documents into Apache OpenOffice, and also when saving as Microsoft Word and Excel documents. Many times the text wouldn't convert properly.

This software saves us a lot of money by doing away the cost of Microsoft Excel. But we are not using it simply because it is free, it can basically do everything excel can, however, you may wanna refer to guides/ blogs online .
It can basically do everything Microsoft excel can do. It is free to use. The software is so handy when you don't have Microsoft excel and you cannot use google sheet. Google sheet cannot load password-protected, large sheets and in case you do not have excel on your computer, you can install Openoffice.
I was recently working on a sheet and the resolution seemed a bit low and it looked kind of noisy. Other than that, it suffices my organisational needs with ease.

Free, and it can do 95% of what Microsoft Word or Excel can do - even open up Word or Excel docs and save them in Word or Excel format as well. When I've had a computer go bad or bought an additional one, all I have to do is download Open Office for free - instead of buying the Microsoft Office stuff all over again, so never going back now.
The picture framing options in Word is all I really miss, like oval shape and soft edges. I haven't missed anything in Calc too much although the cell comment feature is a little different and slightly harder to use if you want to change the size of the comment ballon.

Apache OpenOffice was a solution for me when we acquired on more computer. I did not have to pay to get Microsoft Office (again). I am using it the same as I am using Microsoft Office, without a problem. Really happy with it.
I like that is for free and I still can do what I need to do. I used (and I am still using on some devices) Microsoft Office, but it was very easy to switch to OpenOffice: I write, save, send documents without problems. Maybe at the begginig, you need some time to get used to the interface, but this is not a big deal.
The differences that are between OpenOffice Calc and Excel. I thought that OpenOffice is similar in everything to Microsoft Office, so this was a surprise for me, as my job requires working in Excel. But it was not a problem, in the end, to learn it.

For those that love Microsoft Office and its indispensable status as the required software suite for business, but hate having to pay an outrageous price tag. I've been using OpenOffice since back when it was OpenOffice.org, and it was and still is mind blowing how a software suite that basically did nearly everything Microsoft Office could do could also be free of charge.
Compatibility issues are the biggest concern. If you originally created a document in Microsoft Word or Excel and then try to open it in the equivalent software within OpenOffice, you may get a red flag that not everything will transfer correctly. Likewise, those that are used to Microsoft Office and its features may occasionally find that OpenOffice doesn't do EVERYTHING Microsoft Office does, at least for now. For instance, the ability to freeze panes in Excel was a useful feature that OpenOffice Writer didn't replicate until later on.

There are many benefits among which we can mention that it is a free software that can be downloaded directly from the Internet, it can be installed in other operating systems that are not Linux, it takes few resources from the team in terms of memory and space in disk unlike other programs that exist in the market, it is easily installed and has the same structure as Microsoft Office.
I installed it on my home computer when I started using it to learn it and I was amazed that it was too fast to run, since this computer has very low performance and when loading other similar applications it takes a long time. What I like the most is that you do not need a large capacity to run in addition to being able to download it for free because it is not licensed.
What I do not like is that it does not have all the advantages of functionality as far as tools are concerned and that it is not 100 percent compatible with Microsoft Office, which is a limitation when exchanging information between both programs. For example, with open office calc and excel lack many tools so that office calc is a hundred percent compatible with the case of macros that are made in excel. If a document made with macros in Microsoft excel is tried to load in open office would not be compatible.

We found OpenOffice years ago when we were first starting out and needed an alternative to spending thousands of dollars on Microsoft Excel. We use this daily for in house use and when working on projects for customers. Because so many people use Excel we simply work on OpenOffice and reload to Excel with very few changes necessary. This software saves us time and money and to continue interacting with other businesses seamlessly.
This software is very user friendly and meets the word processing and spreadsheet needs of our company. We use it daily for word processing, article construction, publication writing, and all of our spreadsheets. To say it is amazing does not do this software justice, I mainly use these two features but know it does far more, such as Drawing, Presentations, Calculator and Illustration. Co-workers...
There has not been a single complaint from my staff. I personally have a problem printing envelopes, but I think that is because I rarely do so.

This is a great free alternative if you can't afford the premium of Microsoft products. I'd be willing to recommend this to anyone that needs to throw together a quick spreadsheet but doesn't want to pay the full price for a product that they'll only use once or twice.
I recently setup a computer for my grandparents, who previously had a free version of Microsoft Excel that they used to manage a handful of spreadsheets for their home business. After setting up their new computer, they no longer had the free Excel version so we opted for OpenOffice instead. They hardly knew the difference and were even able to use a lot of their previous files from Excel in this product. It's a great free alternative!
The UI isn't quite as pleasing to the eye as some other alternatives, and there is a slight learning curve since mostly everyone is used to using Excel, but after you get the hang of it there isn't much to complain about.

Obviously the price of this makes it far more attractive than Microsoft equivalent programs. Has improved a lot over the years and is really becoming a good competitor in the marketplace.
If you are collaborating with Microsoft office users with files, you will find that there are compatibility issues. We've experienced problems mainly with Calc and its compatibility with Excel. Sometimes you have to troubleshoot and downgrade Excel files to the .xls vs .xlsx (basically to the 97-2003 version) in order to effectively share files between the two softwares.

I use this software just like I would Microsoft to help write letters collect data and keep me accountable. This software has been a huge help, especially when I did not have the budget for Microsoft and have been true to open office ever since.
Need I say more, this is by far the best product out there. I started using open office several years ago when I didn't have the budget for Microsoft office, excel, word, etc. This software is free and is identical to Microsoft. The best part is when you are ready to save it gives you an option that converts it to a Microsoft formst so it can be opened anywhere on any computer. This is definitely by far an amazing program that allows you to accomplish so much from writing letters, to data sheets like excel, to creating presentations. It does pretty much the same thing but all for free, how can you ask for more?
There really is no cons to this program, as it does so much for a free application.
