One Note's document storage, protection, and collaboration within MS Office 365

2018-07-25

While I've tried other competent products, document creation and collaboration tools and storage within the business applications offers greater convenience and lowers risks.

Pros

It offers peace of mind embedded in the MS business applications so as the organization grows in size and complexity, creating and sharing documents, especially those with potentially sensitive data (compliance) or contracts will not require 3rd party apps.

Cons

None thus far, but as an early stage startup, we never got a chance to really bring it to scale for full functionality across numerous users.

The best note-taking app I've used (and I've tried a lot)

2018-10-02

Pros

It automatically skew-corrects and color-corrects camera photos of a slideshow projection. People write amazing plug-ins for it.

Cons

There isn't a built-in way to view notes by date created or edited, but there are third-party plug-ins that help with that.

Great tool!

2018-12-13

Has helped tremendously with month end reports and driver scorecards.

Pros

The ability to drop & drag in order to share along with updates of when the file was viewed is a great feature.

Cons

Looks to have small glitch where one link overlaps another link. It could just be the way our share site was set up.

Microsoft OneNote

2017-11-21

It has revolutionized my ability to collaborate with others and take personal notes for meetings or other work functions.

Pros

A key feature here is the default setting that bolds all text added by other users, making it very easy to identify comments or additions made since your lost log in.

Cons

When I collaborate with others, i encounter sync issues occasionally.

Simple, Easy, Intuitive

2020-01-16

Combine that with Microsoft's ability to sync with other devices and not having to worry about saving documents, One Note is very close to replacing the pen and paper I carry around with me.

Pros

I also am a big fan that it syncs across all devices, including the mobile OneNote app.

Cons

I'd love to see more integrations with things they've been able to do in other Office Products like flowcharts from Vizio or collaborative notebooks.

Robust, Quick, Multi-Functional

2018-07-03

By far, the most robust note-taking app I've yet encountered. More than you need if all you want to do is take notes, but excellent if you want to do much, much more.

Pros

Love the ability to drop entire spreadsheets or emails, etc., into a note and include a screenshot or even some of the source app's functionality.

Cons

Because you can fit so much data into a single note, downloads to mobile devices can be slow.

Save it, share it and collaborate, but not the best available

2018-11-27

Does make a good place to generate a simple KMS type storage space with shareable information, but limited on the functionality sets within.

Pros

. - User training is extremely minimal as the functionality is otherwise limited to a word based document sharing site. - Available to all members of an office 365 license allowing Teams integration (otherwise the better product offering)

Cons

- Shareable storage is a nice have, but is easily replaceable with slew of other product sets today (OneDrive, DropBox, Teams, Etc.)

The best tool on the market for organizing your notes

2018-08-15

Pros

- the amount of different file types you can include is fantastic - keeps all my notes in one place - very easy to access - sharing documents with various interested parties is brilliant

Cons

- I don't really have any negatives to express about this product. It can take a while to get used to if you have been using a different system though.

Another option to take notes but not the best one

2018-05-04

Pros

Is free to use as a mobile app, you can add images, links and other resources, you can manage multiple notes and also add tabs to have more control.

Cons

I just don't like the interface and for me was slow to sync in different devices, at the beginning I felt lost on how to use it, it was not easy to understand at first.

Replacement for blackboard

2020-07-09

I use OneNote to lecture, using hand writing to match note taking pace of students. We think that for physics note taking and home reviewing them is an essential step in learning as it stimulates immediate questioning if something is not understood. Projecting the screen affords for large class rooms. Changing colors, moving sketches around works well, notes can then be turned into pdf or edited to produce better hand out. I use finite size sheets to distribute notes, during the lecture I use a continuous sheet. The notebook is on OneDrive and is available in different devices, which is sometimes useful. Overall this made a change from blackboard and chalk, and when remote lecturing came due to pandemics I did not change lecture habits. These habits might look old fashioned but for some subjects that require reasoning, sketches, math, numerical computations, comparison with graphs, I feel these are necessary and OneNote gives a good support

Pros

Handwriting with a Microsoft Surface and its pen is easy, erasing is natural, select and move also.

Cons

In older versions the management of the sheet format (finite size vs infinite) was easier.
