Love it -- better than Google docs

Pros

Love the security -- there is no doubt that my documents are protected. It's also great for co-collaboration.

Cons

sometimes not always easy to navigate when you are in the browser. It's easier when you use it file explorere mode

Pretty complicated, needs somebody to manage it full time

2018-03-08

How about Google Drive + Google Docs...?

Pros

Share Point 2013 introduced online editing of MS files, which seems to work well (although you have to "save" spreadsheet changes, and don't have to with slides - or the other way around?) You can organize permissions in a flexible enough way. There is file versioning.

Cons

I've had experiences with SP2010 and SP2013, so please keep this into account. In 2010, you can't simply move a file from a folder to another. You can if you open the locations with Windows' file explorer - if you find out how. Haven't tried in 2013. File checkout sometimes gets stuck, and eventually you cannot open the file anymore. There are sites, lists, collections, folders... it's not easy to figure out how to organize something that you generally imagine hierarchical with all these classifications. I often find it hard to navigate and find files. There's no real breadcrumb to indicate where you are, and I guess it reflects the complex organization of the resources (it's not really files either). Integration with external systems is quite an effort, if you're not the in the .Net environment.

Good Product, Depending on Your Other Systems

2017-12-21

I like google docs better and dropbox.

Pros

If your company is a Microsoft shop, you definitely have to consider using Sharepoint in your company, but if you are not you should consider other options. It has all of the key parties.

Cons

It is difficult to use with people and companies who are external to your company to share, integrate, and manage the polices of sharepoint.

Average Project management platform

2017-11-24

Pros

Not a bad project management platform. Everything is fairly straight forward. Good at timeline and deadline modification.

Cons

Trouble saving documents, easier to use one drive or google docs. setup time for a project takes a bit and has lacking options when planning with six sigma.

I enjoy this platform since it has a clean easy to navigate layout and easy uploading.

2018-02-06

This provides a nice hub for multiple users who are at different locations to access and keep track of multiple documents in an organized space.

Pros

We use sharepoint with one particular client and it is a nice hub for multiple people to upload and view shared documents. The platform is very user friendly and easy to navigate.

Cons

Since this is an interactive platform I would like to view who has uploaded items and who is in the platform at the same time, much like Google Docs allows.

I have used this intranet as a user

2017-11-07

Pros

I also like how we can check out documents to work on in a group and keep it in a Microsoft office format unlike Google Docs

Cons

Only one person can work in a document at a time. And if someone doesn't check a document back in we are locked out.

Great for what it does, but honestly there's better options

2018-10-26

Pros

Sharepoint makes sharing and downloading files within your company easy. There's little to no learning curve with how to navigate its interface and it provides administrative tools to limit what can and can't be seen/uploaded/downloaded among those in the office.

Cons

Even Google Docs can serve as an alternative, assuming your file sharing within your company is limited to word processing documents, spreadsheets, and PDFs.

A professional document sharing and collaboration tool

2018-09-12

I will say that most of the same features are available through Google Docs for free but ultimately, it was the whole package that SharePoint is part of that convinced us to move our workspace into it for the sake of convenience and consistency.

Pros

This software allows you to share your documents, edit and collaborate with other users anywhere in the world in real time, securely. It's an amazing thing when you can see who is currently viewing and editing a document and everything anyone does is automatically saved and secure within the group it is shared with. SharePoint helps save an incredible amount of time and makes remote meetings much more productive. One of the possible drawbacks is that it seems to be limited to people who also use Sharepoint and live in the Microsoft community of software but I recently learned that you can share with people who don't have Microsoft accounts by providing them with a security key to access the documents. It becomes a two step process for them to accept the document and then get the key to enter but at least it is possible and this makes sure your documents remain secure.

Cons

It is possible to share with people who aren't part of your network or even Microsoft's network but again, it takes extra steps. Also, there are settings that enable or disable the feature and it is not very clear where the settings are or how to use all the different share options. It took some trial and error, testing and talks with Microsoft support before we were comfortable that it could do what we needed it to do and how to do it. Even after all of that, it is still a bit unclear when certain options should be used but I suppose that could be considered a benefit of the software's flexibility to do the similar things with different methods.

Google Docs is a fantastic way to collaborate with other individuals

2018-05-21

It's an incredibly easy to use, smooth, highly functional piece of software that allows teams to collaborate on documents and spreadsheets.

Pros

Compared to SharePoint, it is a much smoother experience overall, and much easier to use, since SharePoint requires all these annoying logins.

Cons

There are some features of SharePoint that are not included in the Google Docs platforms, but that is to be expected.

Google Docs - The Best Budget Option

Beats Microsoft Hands Down

2018-05-17

Simple to use, yet robust in features. Google docs allows us to create internal docs to collaborate on and share with our client's for further feedback and tweaking. It's very easy to use and can be shared for view only or edit capabilities with the click of a button.

Pros

Easily shareable docs, same functionality as Microsoft, cloud based without the headaches of dealing with Microsoft SharePoint not One Drive restrictions.

Cons

Actually, I haven't found anything I don't like about them yet. Everything has been easy to use without a hitch.

Easy collaborative document creation

2018-05-15

Collaborative document editing, easy PDF generation, and pretty good support for formats from other vendors (MS Word).

Pros

Real-time collaboration is the killer feature for me, and it works much better than competitors such as Word via Sharepoint. I have not compared it to Office 365, though.

Cons

The layout features are not as robust as those in Word, but you should probably use something like InDesign if you are trying to get really fancy.

You better have good wifi

2019-02-20

I have grown to really love the simple design and ease of use. It's a bit annoying to work just online but #startuplife.

Pros

It is so much easier to share and/or edit shared documents on the G suite than other providers (and much much easier to use than SharePoint). The documents auto-save and it's very intuitive to use.

Cons

You cannot use the program if you don't have wifi. If I'm taking notes from a call in a place with spotty wifi - I cannot take notes. It also struggles to open word docs in a way that doesn't ruin the formatting so it causes so issues when you are dealing with partners that use the Microsoft suite.

Better than any other cloud-based storage option!

2018-02-02

It allows me to access files from any location from any device!

Pros

This is a much better alternative to Sharepoint as it's functionality and ease of use trumps the Microsoft alternative.

Cons

Generally does require a gmail account to use. If you are using it as a backup, storage goes quick for the free version, so use that storage wisely.

I find myself using this more and more...

2018-05-15

Ease of mobility from my desk to my mobile devices. Translation between my many different OS's Desktop being Windows 10, Android Tablet and iOS phone.

Pros

I am able to achieve mobility and functionality even if my next post doesn't have Sharepoint or even Office on their systems.

Cons

It's not always as robust as Excel and some functionality is lost when transferring a MS Office doc to a Google Doc. Spreadsheets from Excel lose their abilities to use VB Macro's (which I do use on a regular basis) and most template formats (IE resume's from MS Word) tend to distort or just all out bork.

The standard for collaborative document management

2018-07-03

The benefits are almost beyond description, online learning would quite literally not be the same without this.

Pros

In terms of comparisons to existing services, Google Docs leaves most of them in the dust (looking at you SharePoint...) and has continued to improve over time.

Cons

The biggest 'con' isn't actually a con - the expectation of such effortless collaboration become pervasive, and moving back to networks that do not allow for Google Docs collaboration become frustrating by comparison, which is an astonishing way of describing how transformational the GDocs capability is for most users. As far as actual cons, the feature management and UI does seem vary over time, which for some users can be quite a bit frustration. The biggest in-application limitation I've found is that the Chat isn't persistent, but the only way of discovering this is the hard way - namely losing valuable information that isn't stored anywhere. In practice the workaround of using comments for the same function is not really problematic, but implementing a chat where collaboration is a stated goal but not having persistent messages feels incredibly myopic. Small complaints include the shared noise with Hangouts - as a user it's intuitive to understand that the same underlying platform enables both, however stovepiping the two functionally yet failing to leverage a lot of the side benefits of the Hangouts platform is an easy solution that may yet be implemented, but at the time of the review it is not. The support applications, particularly smaller niche ones will break from time to time, which is unfortunate. Finally, the offline and mobile versions do vary in terms of quality of UI flow, although it's a familiar enough setup for android users to intuit.
