Overall, Pigeonhole was a great tool to use for meetings and making meetings interactive. I like to use it to collect responses to survey and do polls. It serves as a fast way to get valuable feedback from my colleagues and team member.

It was a great free option for small meeting engagment, but not optimal for large groups and not super easy for participants to join.

In October, I noticed a charge of $129.72 on my bank account—an account I no longer actively use since transitioning to a new job. This account was tied to my former small business, which I haven’t closed but am not currently operating. The charge caused my account to overdraft, which was not only stressful but also financially impactful.

I reached out to Poll Everywhere immediately to explain the situation and request a refund, but what I received in return was a rigid, policy-driven response that completely ignored my unique circumstances. Despite me clearly stating that I no longer need or use the service—and the fact that I had used it only once—they refused to offer any flexibility or refund. They cited “fairness and consistency,” but it’s clear this approach serves their bottom line, not their customers.

Why This Matters:
I am a journalist who produces independent documentary films. Anyone who has ever tried to build a small business or create independent films knows how difficult it is to stay afloat financially. What may seem like a small $129.72 charge to a company like Poll Everywhere is, in reality, a significant amount to those of us who are working hard to create something meaningful.

It’s also incredibly frustrating that their process requires customers to jump through hoops, such as manually downgrading their accounts, even after stating they no longer want the service. They have no customer service phone number, forcing you to rely on slow, email-only communication. This makes resolving issues a time-consuming process that could be avoided with a simple phone call.

A Missed Opportunity for Good Customer Service:
Policies should serve as guidelines, not barriers to doing the right thing. Good companies know when to consider context and make exceptions for honest mistakes, especially when the evidence is clear: no service usage for an entire year and an inadvertent overdraft. Instead, Poll Everywhere chose to hide behind their policy, demonstrating a lack of empathy and integrity.

Okay Product, But Shockingly Poor Customer Service and Inflexible Policies

I have used Poll Everywhere in live presentations to gauge audience feedback in an anonymous fashion. Without this resource, due to the nature of topics we were interested in seeking feedback around, we feared we might not get honest responses. Poll Everywhere allowed participants to safely provide honest feedback with a simple text from their cell phones that could be displayed in aggregate on a projected screen in our presentation space.

I have only used this product as a poll-ee. Though I imagine the poll creation process is easy, as a user taking the polls, I am comfortable endorsing this as a great tool for interacting with users.

I use Poll Everywhere to quickly get questions answered, to brainstorm ideas, and to engage my audience for presentations whether it is at a staff meeting or for my students. It has been useful and engaging.

It was very popular and I received praise from multiple attendees afterwards that they liked the novelty of being able to text a response, and that they felt more engaged.
