Vitrium Security review

Reviewed 3 years ago

The assets that are included in the product are subjected to be sold so, it's required to have them protected and this is why Vitrium is used.

Pros

The core feature which is the DRM where assets are correctly protected, access to them are fully controlled, even when they are downloaded.

Cons

The correlation ID, it's possible to retrieve a document by the provided external key - while protecting it - but it's not possible to view that document with that external key.

Vendor response

Oct 2022 update: Hi Muhammad, I know we've had several meetings with your firm now to get you up and running on your client's hosted environment, and we've been able to overcome the original challenges you faced. We both know how strict of an IT environment your customer has and how tricky it has been to overcome things but I'm glad we've partnered up our teams to make it work!

Vitrium

Reviewed 6 years ago

My company uses Vitirum to encrypt sensitive reports and send them to our clients. We are a consulting company specializing in IT Security and HIPAA Compliance.

Pros

I like that this is a very easy method for our customers to use, unlike other methods I have employed in the past I never have customers coming back to me with issues or complaints.

Cons

I don't like that we have to be the one to set the password for the client, each client should be able to change the password on their first login when we create an account. Also we should be able to revoke access to a document once sent to one user without revoking all users rights. Lastly, I would like permissions to be more granular. It would be nice to be able to give customers the ability to print without giving them the ability to edit the document.

Vendor response

Thanks, Lindsay, for your valuable feedback. Revoking access can be handled by utilizing DRM Settings when provisioning content to an individual user (as is the case on your account today). Remove the DRM assignment (set it to 'not set') and the user will lose access. However, when the user is in a group and that group is granted DRM permissions, you would have to remove the user from the group otherwise...

Easy and Effective PDF Protection

Reviewed 6 years ago

We have had a great experience in using Vitrium Security to protect documents which we deliver to our customers. Over the past 5+ years, Vitrium has added value to the information which we provide to our clients, and we are very happy with the service.

Pros

We appreciate the ease of use and the effectiveness in the protection afforded our documents in using Vitrium Security.

Cons

The sole area in which we would like to see improvement is in an easier method for users to select their own user name and password options for viewing documents.

Vendor response

Thanks for your review. We are glad that you¿ve had a great experience in using Vitrium Security. Permissions are granted via user names which, in most cases, will be an email address. As many of the systems are integrated to 3rd party back-end systems, these email addresses are required to remain static in order to maintain the system relationships. However, an administrator of the Vitrium Administration UI can make the change to the end-users email address. However, an end-user must consult with the content vendor to request such a change.

We use Vitrium to protect digital versions of our courseware

Reviewed 6 years ago

intellectual property protection

Pros

Provides controllable/flexible security for our documents. Intellectual property protection for our materials.

Cons

Offline viewing doesn't work on Apple ios . Biggest complainte we get because many people use iPad or iPhone to review documents.

Vendor response

Thanks, Bob for taking the time to bring this to our attention. We always aim to deliver a great experience. Offline access is supposed to work on iOS devices but it could be that the content is simply too large to be saved in the browser's cache for offline retrieval. If you could email support@vitrium.com with an example, we will more than happy to help resolve this for you.

Highly recommend Vitrium

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

Both the Vitrium product and team have been a pleasure to work with. We pose an unusual use case and Vitrium has been exceptionally accommodating and helpful.

Cons

The only weakness is the reduced ability for our students to annotate the protected PDF files.

Vendor response

Oct 22 update: Thank you for your feedback, Andy! We're delighted you've had a great experience using Vitrium so far. We try to be as accommodating as possible and aim to provide an experience that fits your particular needs. I'm sure you're aware of all the improvements we've made to our annotations feature including the processing speed, but we wanted to mention it here as well. Thank you for continuing to be a loyal customer of Vitrium's! We love hearing your feedback. It makes us a better company.

Pros

What i like about vitrium is the easy to use function of it, there isn't too many issues so a smooth operating software is nice.

Cons

the only cons are the troubleshooting instructions can sometimes seem a little confusing to understand

Vendor response

Thanks, Amelina for your review. Vitrium has produced several more videos including detailed ones on our DRM implementation which can be confusing by times. Robust document security options

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

There doesn't seem to be another service on the market that would be able to serve our unique use-case.

Cons

When purchasing this service, there was a considerable lack of clarity around the ability to prevent users from printing protected documents as a PDF to circumvent the security measures. These restrictions are actually quite limited in their scope and I would like to see the service developed to allow users to print to paper without printing to PDF.

Vendor response

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback, Kailey. We are happy to know Vitrium adjusts well to your unique use-case and allows you to solve your content protection needs. We understand your concerns regarding our printing capabilities, however, our recommendation to keep content secured is always to avoid printing, since allowing users to print content effectively forfeits the control you have over it.

A natural use

Reviewed 5 years ago

The main challenge that our company always had is that our information was available to our clients in a simple and safe way, and it seems to me that this challenge has been met.

Pros

Actually for me it is very easy to use, I almost do not realize that I am using software, so I called this review "a natural use" since for me its use is already natural.

Cons

For now the experience has been excellent

Vendor response

Thank you for your kind review, Mr. Lopez. As you found, both the administration and end-user experiences are quite simple to work with and your intellectual property/content remains secure.

eBooks

Reviewed 3 years ago

Vitrium has provided excellent support to us. The initial conversions that were troublesome, presented a challenge to the Vitrium support staff, but they were equal to the challenge.

Pros

Vitrium has provided our company with an secure way of selling our resources in the digital environment. The software provides many features that enhance the end-user experience for our product. Administration is very simple.

Cons

Conversion from a rich PDF file was not simple. Effects applied in the InDesign software and thus apparent in our PDF supplied for conversion to the Vitrium platform didn't convert easily. Once these effects were removed the conversion was easy.

Vendor response

Hi Gail, we truly appreciate your feedback! We're very pleased to hear you are happy with the support you received from our staff. We work hard to provide the best support possible! Oct 2022 update: I'm sure you're aware now but we wanted to make sure it was addressed here too. Earlier this year (May 2022), Vitrium released a new version of its web viewer which has vastly improved the PDF conversion to the web viewer and I know this has solved many of your InDesign issues. We hope you're enjoying the new web viewer!

You want to use this product.

Reviewed 5 years ago

The team at Vitrium have created a great product AND provide outstanding customer service.

Pros

The Vitrium platform allowed our company to customize our own internal process.

Cons

We had a few issues with the platform when downloading PDFs. The platform easily lets users few documents on the web viewer but we have a lot of users that want to download the documents onto their desktops which wasn't always a seamless process.

Vendor response

Thanks for the great kudos, Jennifer! Features are always being added and enhanced based on customer feedback. We're usually quite open to feature requests that are going to be beneficial to our other customers. In fact, our product road map tends to be mostly based on customer feedback.

Safe and Secure document storage, user friendly and easy to share.

Reviewed 2 years ago

Keeping our courses materials "locked" so that attendees cannot print, save or share the materials with others. Easy to use and great tech support if needed.

Pros

We need to keep our materials copy-righted, so that attendees cannot share, print, copy our materials to use for their own. This product does that.

Cons

I can't think of anything that I do not like about this software. It's currently doing exactly what we wanted it to do, keeping our documents secure, non printable, shareable or saveable.

Vendor response

Hi Kimberly, thank you for providing us with your feedback. We're thrilled to know that you're happy with the software. Our goal is always to provide thorough protection while keeping things user friendly for you and your end users.

seems like a great company to grow with

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

The responsiveness of the Vitrium team has been great, and we have really appreciated their flexibility with our requests as we are all trying to figure out how to best implement their powerful DRM capabilities. Having everything trackable and protected has completely removed awkward NDA conversations about IP that we are still developing.

Cons

I guess because it is so applicable to so many ways of doing things, just trying to make sure we are integrating it properly and in conjunction with other aspects of our website development. That's not so much a reflection of Vitrium, though. They've been quite helpful in talking through applications with us.

Vendor response

Thanks for the kind words, Marina. We do strive to make our system work seamlessly in everyone's environment and especially keep your IP safe!

A Digital Rights Management tool with a positive Value for Money

Reviewed 3 years ago

Great interaction with Sales and Technical support during software selection. Availability of a test drive to check that system fits our needs.

Pros

Converts most document formats to a Secured PDF and a Secured Browser-viewable webpage. Versioning keeps everyone updated. Access controls are granular enough to control almost all end users interactions. Users management is simple. Cost is one of the best for a Entreprise class solution

Cons

Full Audit trail is missing, Multi Factor authentication is missing

Vendor response

Hi Federico, thank you for your review! We're very happy to know you've been using our granular DRM features and have been staying in control of your content as a result. October 2022 update: We know we've informed you about the new multi-factor authentication feature available in our software (released earlier this year), but we want to thank you for providing this feedback.
