Incredibly deep library of assemblies. Easy to create and save new estimates.

Units for different types of work and areas of the country need to be looked at carefully. I have found some "bad" out of the box costs.

Good baseline data source for pre-construction and cost estimating comparison, but can't compete with local experience working in the actual location you're pricing.

The data provided is very useful especially when creating a job estimate. If you are looking to get a large set of data over multiple geographies it can be difficult. Not sure if this customer segment has been considered.

I love the sq. ft. models for the various buildings (classroom, office, etc.).  However, the HVAC included in the models is unrealistic for our purposes.  I would prefer if the software allowed for some alternate systems to be selected, such as different HVAC units.

I use RS Means to complete and compile work estimates mainly for change order items.  Without RS Means I don't no where I could get the information I need.  It is also accepted by the FHWA and is a tremendous help with my work as a Construction Manager for the DOT.

I am able to do more estimates in a shorter amount of time.

Fastest and easiest way to generate costs for a bid.

I like the web version. It provides what I need without having another piece of software to maintain, update and take up space on my laptop.

Provides the info I need when I need it. However, that is not daily so it is expensive for the amount of time it is used.

It has been a great tool to talk with clients in real-time about design options and their affect on the bottom line.  In the past this has been an issue with alot of mistrust around it and being able to show validated third party costs has added credibility to costing work.

The pros and cons of RSMeans Online

My over all experience with the product, has been good, when in a hurry I can look items up pretty quick.

Ability to customize specific tasks that are not standard in the industrial installations.

Very good but not perfect

Helps us be more accurate with our initial budget prices with owners, thus reducing our risk to being tied to a sq ft price that doesn't reflect true market costs.  Helps owners make quicker investment decisions, and allows us to partner with them.

Means features-pros and cons

Insightful and extremely detailed information plus the cost models are very good to have. The customer service is also prompt and helpful. Slight learning curve before you can effectively start using the tool.
