Pros

There is an enormous amount of information available and lots of great reports to give you the data and breakdowns needed to analyze and manage projects.

Cons

Connecting the dots from field to upper management

Customer support is impeccable. If you have an issue, they are very quick to respond. Really enjoy the Spectrum Network to reach out to other users and find out what helps them the most. Great community.

Pros

Since going web based, Spectrum is much easier to use. The job info bar gives easy access to all areas of your job and instantly know where you are at with costs, revenue, etc.

Cons

Would like the Project Management module to be a little beefier and give better access to change how the forms and reports look, somewhat limited.

Spectrum Review

Our experience with Spectrum hasn't been the best. There was great support/conversations during the process to determine if we should go with the software. Then, upon implementation there was a drastic difference. We had a support person come to our facility for a week for a quick overview, but we had to get ourselves up and running. After a short time, the support person was "unavailable" for questions/issues. Our implementation process was done on our own. Most of the times when we called the support center, issues weren't resolved quickly. At times the person on the other end of the phone was less than courteous. We pretty much ceased calling for assistance and worked around any problems by ourselves.

Pros

Reports and documents look clean.

Cons

The Materials Management and Job Cost integration is very cumbersome regarding the Scale Ticket process.

would be nice to have more options rather than updates simply being taken away due to a few vocal users.

Pros

project management and billing well designed and supported; customer service almost always on target with analysis or calls back.

Cons

accounting features and options not available for cash management, some procedures and sequence of input for draw requests and change orders very tedious and convoluted.

The introduction of the Web Services allowing data to flow in and out of Spectrum has changed the way we do our Project Management by allowing our PM's to stay in the project management software and bringing the data back into spectrum.

General Overview

All the field tools for civil construction are there, except for the estimating. It will integrate with a lot of the best estimating programs.

Pros

The software is fairly fully featured except for no estimating tool.

Cons

This comment is not about the product performance itself, (which is competitive with a lot of the others) but is more about how it is marketed and supported. It has 31 modules in total, but it is not made very clear before purchase: (1) that there are these number of modules (2) also no information about what functionalities are in what modules. (what do you really need to purchase and what are the costs) (3) They have very few reference videos (almost none) for either product introduction or Training, making it almost impossible to have own "in house" training sessions.

Powerful software that has improved our business

Pros

Built on SQL we also implemented automated report functions that has saved lots of busy work. Customizable dashboards allow at a glance management by exception.

Cons

Complex setup, detailed data import could improve, annual maintenance fees are significant as compared to our previous package.

Online User Interface Document Imaging Pretty Good security management (can easily define who can do/see what)

Cons

Not all functions available in all modules Not able to automate reconcilliation Reports often have to be customized to get the information you need Support is not always helpful - have to carefully explain issue/user experience, usually try to send you to a help article that is not sufficient Can only process one pay roll batch at a time No "set up" workflow (ie. while everything is usually within one area, there is no flow that goes through all required fields for a new entry/things can be missed

Dexter & Chaney Spectrum for Construction

Pros

The product is an extremely well-thought-out and well-developed job costing and project management tool.

Cons

Having lead and completed several systems conversions, I was pleased with the product. I don't recommend anyone who has no hands-on conversion experience doing this on their own. It was hard initially to speak to someone who was on the same level as I was, but once I was able to connect to a more experienced developer and customer service rep, it was a smooth and rewarding experience.

If you've never done a systems conversion, let the experts do it, and even if you have, make sure you have a thorough understanding of the product modules and the capabilities. With new systems implementation, there is always a certain percentage of customization required make sure that you understand what you need for your particular company.

Software that is easy to learn and use

The software is very functional for project based accounting.

Pros

Entry in the modules is logical and intuitive Reports can be exported and are organized well Customer support is very responsive to questions and concerns

Cons

Document imaging is somewhat cumbersome when uploading multiple images If I move too fast in the system, I'm logged off automatically and have to log back in and re-enter data.

Pros

The customizable reports are a great asset.

Cons

When something is entered into job cost under the wrong phase, there needs to be a way to change the phase and not have to do multiple entries for negative to to incorrect phase and a positive to the correct phase.

Spectrum is user friendly.

I love this product and I'm so happy we made the change 2 years ago.

Pros

It is extremely user friendly and very easy to navigate through. Reports run in seconds.

Cons

It works better on a laptop than a tablet, but I know they are working on that. The Project Management Module is not robust enough, but they are working to get their Viewpoint product compatible with Spectrum.

Customer service was excellent prior to the merger and/or acquisition with Viewpoint. Knowledge is limited and we are quickly pushed to a specialist with an hourly rate.

Pros

Web based. Will not let me post review unless there are characters in this field.

Cons

Payroll reports, only 3 fields in job set-up to track revenue/etc per person, once a job is closed the projected cost and hours changes to actual, all specialized reports have to be done by Crystal reporting, year end process, GL structure is limited

Pros

It provides simple job costing for labour, equipment, and cost management.

Cons

We can do a correcting journal entry so the costs are correct, however, labour cost reports don't pick up Journal Entries.
