moodle the best LMS for E-learning

Reviewed 5 years ago

Well I have more than 2 years working with virtual learning environments or LMS and Moodle is an excellent platform, with a simple, light, efficient interface. It allows you to manage or control the performance of students, in addition to allowing you to create or reuse teaching material, I really recommend it.

Pros

Moodle is very easy to use, is the best system for online learning and also to complement learning, posse many activities so that students can reflect, criticize and develop on the contents of any subject or subject which is being taught . Besides being multiplatform by using any web browser.

Cons

The only disadvantage of moodle that is still very difficult to install and configure on a server or computer locally, after being able to implement it. You have to have a technician or a programmer so you can install it with all the necessary requirements, which may require an extra expense. although moodle has a community and there are forums and even tutorials on how to perform its installation and configuration

Great for Colleges and Universities

Reviewed 4 years ago

It was a great experience because it's where everything is. It was the HUB of online student portals. Easy to use and navigate, you can personalize the pages so sections that are more important to you are on your home page when you log in, and there is a teacher version so the teacher can keep attendance and track grades all in Moodle.

Pros

This software was easy to use but includes a lot of features. It is where students can take tests, quizzes, and they can be timed or untimed, you can look at your grade immediately so students don't have to wait and worry. All the text books and teachers are noted on there and you can hook up plugins for art portfolios and school email links so that students can have everything all in one place.

Cons

Sometimes it would glitch and if it did during a test or quiz, it would kick you out and you sometimes only had one try at the test so you would have to contact your teacher and hope she gave you another try on the test. Some teachers weren't that nice and you had to take the zero.

Moodle Is A Great Tool For Online Courses

Reviewed a year ago

It is a great tool that is very reliable, it has simplified my work and cut short the time I have to spend on producing online courses. Reporting learner progress is a plus and keeping track of attendance is a great advantage as well as tracking and grading of progress and performance of students. Moodle is open source and there are a number of customization options available that moodle offers to the user.

Pros

Moodle is a good product that services my needs appropriately. A good platform for creating courses. I first encountered moodle when I enrolled at an online university in Zambia that utilizes the same platform for providing their courses, It runs smoothly without any problems and has a good user experience. It is easy to use without training and has a nice user interface that allows the user to navigate quickly.

Cons

I run into some issues while logging in sometimes, but that's all I noticed. It is an issue that even my friends from the university complain about it.

Review for Moodle

Reviewed 4 months ago

Moodle is a great option for anyone who wants to manage content (mainly e-learning) on the web without spending a lot of money.

Pros

Easy to install, use, manage, update and upgrade the system. As the framework is widely used in content management platforms for e-learning, the online documentation is very extensive.

Cons

The graphical user interface looks like it hasn't been updated in a long time (maybe a decade).

Manage your educational things with moodle

Reviewed 2 years ago

Moodle is a learning management platform. Our university also uses moodle to manage the courses and modules. Lecture materials are updated in moodle daily to give us the educational things that we need to learn. Ex: lecture slides, notes, videos, reference ect.

Pros

This is not a simple platform. Users can customize this platform as required. We can follow its guide line and get a clear idea about it and then we can use it easily and effectively. Security of this platform is very good. We can create a password individually for our moodle account. Any kind of files can be uploaded or downloaded through this. Another important feature is that it has both mobile and desktop application .

Cons

Since this platform is little bit complex, it takes some time to understand this system. Sometimes downloading and uploading speeds are slow. You have to connect with strong internet connection to log in to the moode. Sometimes It is difficult and takes long time to upload large files.

Big possibilities, to improve and simplify

Reviewed 2 years ago

I am a user of Moodle since 2016. I use it every day to follow my University's courses. The possibilities of the product are high. It can be better managed. I would simplify the interface cancelling all the unuseful things. All the things must be more simple and lean to help the learning process.

Pros

The things that I like of this software is that there are all the things you can need to study, organize, download things, follow the lessons... I really appreciate the way you can upload files such as projects or relations.

Cons

The interface is confusing and complicated. The software is not easy to use. Sometimes to do a simple task it requires tons of clicks and research for the correct part of the page or the right place to find things. The menu isn't useful. The research of new courses is difficult. Many many times servers were down and the interface had bugs. Every time they make a new release things and buttons keep confusing and changing. It take lot of time also to make simple tasks.

If you are looking for a free LMS, this is it

Reviewed a year ago
Pros

It functions very well as a LMS, and its widely use so the percentage of it having game-breaking bugs is really low. It is very reliable and can handle a large amount of users. It is free and open source so you could always reach out to the community for help. It is a very good system for schools and colleges to use, especially since its free and I highly doubt there are many alternatives to Moodle which are free and provide the same amount of functionalities as Moodle does.

Cons

The user interface could definitely use a redesign. The documentation is really bad and there is not much you can do in terms of customizing it unless you are bothered enough to change the code.

University with Moodle

Reviewed 4 months ago

When I entered university all the students were given a Moodle account to keep all the education materials, programs, assessments and tasks in one place. "How great!" I thought. After this I discovered how incomplete and faulty this software is!

Pros

I loved having all the things in one place - from PDFs to live chat with professors. The idea of having virtual classroom made me very excited.

Cons

Ouuuufff. It is very faulty. And sometimes these faults are very severe! As a student, I have had multiple problems with my tests and assignments, and it always affected negatively my evaluation marks. Some things were not there when they should have been and the other way around. Too many flaws to make it a consistent educational platform. I do not suggest it!

Plataforma de aprendizaje e-learning

Reviewed a year ago

Moodle for school or training and independent with high effectiveness.

Reviewed 7 months ago

My experience and that of the team is good, because Moodle is very efficient in terms of cost and for our servers it is not too difficult to manage and manage it. No need for high end VPS (Virtual Private Server) to run Moodle service from server to client side.

Pros

Can well provide all the features to support learning and monitoring in processing activities that have been scheduled in learning or provide variations in learning so that they can assess students or learning participants more appropriately.

Cons

You must be very familiar with the ins and outs of school or the rules in learning, analysis, and proper calculations in the learning strategies that will be made in the Moodle LMS. Because the Moodle LMS is like a blank sheet of paper at the start, and the parts you might need are separated.

A Good Software When Everyone Uses It

Reviewed 4 years ago

For what it's worth, it was a decent one. It was easy to upload my files onto, which was really all I cared about. I went to an art school where we either submitted our assignments through Moodle, a class folder on the school server or physically. I don't have a bad opinion of Moodle.

Pros

It was the level-ground portal that balanced communications between my teachers and I. They shared their syllabi and let me upload my assignments to Moodle so I didn't have to worry about spending print credits on my paper, emailing my paper and hoping it doesn't get lost in their inbox, and other things College Me worried about. Funny enough, there was a forum feature nobody really took seriously—students had to respond to prompts for the sake of responding—and even that was easy to navigate.

Cons

Because not all the teachers used it, it wasn't an easy software to adapt to quickly. My liberal arts teachers used it more significantly than my studio teachers, and I get it: the work they're grading are physical drawings. On the other hand, my studio classes for which I created digital work for wanted me to upload my files to Moodle. My point is that Moodle functions well when a large body of folks use it well and consistently. Otherwise, students may get confused about things like assignment receipt and class participation that may lead to their grades lowered.

Moodle is a Must in the E-learning Industry

Reviewed a year ago

My overall experience with Moodle is satisfying. As a part-time teacher who has used Moodle for more than two years, and as a Ph.D. student at the same time, I found Moodle very useful to me. It made the process of learning and teaching more organized, enjoyable, and easily accessible. Although it has some disadvantages, Moodle provides very strong services that cannot be found in other similar software. I highly recommend the use of this software in the e-learning industry.

Pros

* Moodle is free software for both students and teachers. * It has multiple useful features, including fast download and upload of lectures, making reports, and the easy creation of tests. * It does not occupy a large space in the disk. * It has high compatibility with other systems, like CPR. * It organizes the relationship between students, faculty, and teachers.

Cons

* I noticed a difficulting in going back and forward. * Lack of aesthetic features, which can attract students more.

A decent option for online education

Reviewed a year ago

Good platform that allows a good organization of the courses.

Pros

I liked the way the courses can be organized, the learning divided by topics and sections. The assignment of works is simple and in the same way it is the qualification and that the students receive the note.

Cons

It feels a bit old compared to other platforms like Google Classroom, it could be more dynamic.

Evaluando Moodle

Reviewed 5 months ago

Great LMS

Reviewed a year ago

Great LMS, free, open-source, constantly evolving, with lots of plugins and addins.

Pros

Moodle is the one place to store your school work - grading, quizzing, sending assignments to teachers or to students, ... you store it on your server, so you have safety and knowledge of data location.

Cons

Hard to start using if you use it on your own server - quite some prerequisites. There are regular updates, but on Linux you can use git (yet another not so straightforward thing to do).

A Review about Moodle in a University Student Perspective

Reviewed 2 years ago

We've been using Moodle for almost 3 years now. Even without a pandemic, this application has been very helpful for us students when it comes to organizing matters. It is helpful for time management, organizing academic requirements, etc.

Pros

Moodle is very easy to navigate. Whenever there are instruction about submitting a particular file because it is a academic requirement. It is very easy for me to follow it. With that, I believe that Moodle made time efficient for students to manage their works and such. Also, I use the calendar here in Moodle for my time management purposes.

Cons

I think Moodle is one of the ideal learning management system. I am not sure about this but someone told me that Moodle is ineffective in tracking cheating in tests and assessments because unlike Canvas that has the capability to detect if a student change to another tab or another window during an exam or quiz.

Decent platform to unify module resources

Reviewed 4 years ago

At my university Moodle is a go-to platform for module resources published by the lecturers. It provides a structured environment for them to do so, rather than departmental websites which vary in quality depending on lecturer's skill. A lot can be done through Moodle if the staff is appropriately trained, though at the beginning they often find it hard to use appropriate functionalities.

Pros

A consistent theme and organisational structure for all modules taught at the university; An option to rename a file and provide a description on upload; Assignments with constraints on file size, type and quantity; Integration with Echo lecture capture; A forum for each module allowing easy and scoped contact between course members; Decent multimedia handling facility allowing interactive tutorials and quizzes.

Cons

Occasionally there are problems with accessing modules at the very beginning if the lecturer is not experienced with setting up the page. I believe this process must not be intuitive as lot of them struggle. Fine-grained access control makes it hard/impossible for students to peek materials available for modules they haven't yet registered for. Navigation through active courses is done through a bunch of blue links that feel like early 2000s web pages. A re-design of the 'Dashboard' would be a good idea. Reportedly setting up a clear folder structure for module files is not intuitive, some lecturers struggle. These are all minor but annoying drawbacks.

Review of Moodle Learning Management System

Reviewed 4 years ago
Pros

Moodle is a very popular learning management system (lms). Moodle is the most widely used learning software in most of the universities across the world. Moodle is a Open Source LMS which has also made it popular. Moodle has many nice features like configure wide range of quizzes with options to shuffle the questions on every turn, One can create many online courses with reading materials of various formats, Moodle also provides options to upload documents, Moodle Administration option allows manage the whole moodle lms. Moodle user management provides option to add users , provide access to required courses, quizzes etc. Moodle community is very active and there are many freely available plugins which adds many new features.

Cons

Moodle is popular and widely used and has very less disadvantages or demerits. As Moodle is a Open source, Full or Active Support from Moodle team cannot be expected and need to be dependent only on community or hire experience Moodle experts to manage the system. As Moodle is a PHP based open source software - it normally lacks good UI and user experience compared to other custom paid tools. to start using Moodle, one need to undergo some learning curve and training.

Great for students and instructors

Reviewed 3 years ago

All in all, Moodle is very handy for class management on both students’ and instructors’ side. Saves a lot of time and keeps all communication in one place.

Pros

My experience with Moodle covers both “sides”, as I have used it as a student and as an instructor. It is a great go-to resource for all the course materials, grades, feedback and even discussions. We use Moodle for sharing files with students, keeping track of their performance and class announcements. The set of tools allows you to make lots of adjustments to the course page, customize it, add files that are not visible to certain user groups (for example, students), etc. I use the feedback & commenting feature a lot when grading student work and they get notifications whenever I post grades or feedback. I also like that you can see the last time a student visited the course page. Gives you an idea of how often they check the page for updates and new material ;)

Cons

I use both desktop and mobile versions of Moodle and I have to say that mobile app is often buggy when it comes to notifications and course changes. Some of my students have also complained that they do not get notified on mobile when I post grades, even with all the notification settings turned on.

Awesome open-source software for post-secondary

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

Open-source software is always a plus if you have the resources and know-how to manage it. Hosting is also relatively cheap if that's what you need. Moodle also has a lot of great plugins and a host of online information and documentation so the help is there if you're willing to look for it. From a student's perspective, Moodle is pretty easy to navigate and holds all relevant student info, including class information, participants, group forums (good for studying/collaboration), quizzes, feedback portal, grades, etc. Very easy to submit assignments.

Cons

Implementing and managing Moodle is relatively easy if you have the available IT resources. If not, it's very resource-laden. Looks are a bit outdated and it would be nice for students to be more easily notified if other users comment on their posts/replies in the group forums without having to be logged in. Mobile capability could be better.

Moodle through the eyes of a student and a student assistant

Reviewed 7 months ago

Overall, Moodle is a good product for university students as it brings multiple alternatives in different ways of learning either in-person or online and it provides a space where students can access their assignments and grades all in one place for all the classes.

Pros

I like the deadline reminders in my email because we often are busy with our days that assignments might pass through our minds, but receiving a notification really helps. Also, it allows different types of assignments like discussion forums which bring new class activities and participation, especially during COVID times.

Cons

Sometimes the "Turn it in" option can get glitchy or a lot of time to load the assignment.
