Great for artists and colourists. Youtube is filled with its tutorials.

Pros
The most easy and intuitive software for creation of Augmented Reality. easy to use pre defined shapes, color schemes and headings are super simple.

Cons
not a software for beginners, updates are not regular, should make a 64bit version to support by 64bit system. Makes use of heavy hardware.

One of the Original AR Apps

Aurasma helped me step into the world of augmented reality as a means of making learning more interactive, and helping to better engage students in the classroom. Learning became more hands-on and students had to interact with the material in a way that was new to them, so it hooked them. I think this will continue to build and have a place in education for the foreseeable future.

Pros
I used this app in the past when AR was first making its way into education. A pretty straightforward application that I think offers some of the best-augmented reality experiences for the classroom. There are a variety of neat features, but my favorite about AR is its ability to engage students and make things that weren't interactive, interactive. The tutorials are great for first-time users and pop up when needed. I truly believe AR is a game-changer in education.

Cons
Many of the drawbacks are minor things as with AR, the power is pretty much what you can do with it and how creative you can be. I think what would have helped, would have been a database, or examples, or shared library of sorts to try out. I also ran into a few lag issues. Not sure if this was just a school wifi issue or what.

This software has allowed me to change the lives of a number of people by introducing them to the technlogy of augmented reality and how they can make use of it in their own fields.

Pros
Ease of use, Price, Tutorials, Capabilities, The best option out there for anyone but especially a non coder that wants to create interactive print media campaigns.

Cons
Pricing options for white labeled versions of the app. The biggest problem with AR apps is that i don't want to send a client to someone else app .

Good place to start an AR development journey

I started using HPReveal when it was still branded Aurasma several years ago. As a Learning technology specialist and conference speaker I used it to demonstrate the ease of creating AR for anyone and everyone in my industry. I have developed with it and led workshops to help others learn how to use it. I spend quite a bit of time testing out these types of AR creation tools for my company and for use in the training and development space in general.

Pros
The software is very straight forward and easy to develop with. The user interface is easy to use and to get started creating AR experiences or "Auras" as they call them. Auras require a Trigger image and then content to overlay on top. You can add any type of multimedia (including alpha video) you can think of and link out to additional resources on the internet. Its a fun introductory development tool for Augmented Reality creation and you don't have to have any coding experience to build and share.

Cons
SO a couple big things that is holding back HP Reveal is it's pricing model (which is ambiguous and hard to find at best) and the user access limitation. So you can create an AR experience and then share it to be viewed with the wold to see. The problem is that the world has to have an HPReveal account and be able to find your experience. You can follow any users and see there experiences in the gallery that is available however there are other options in AR creation that allow you to create and anyone with the app to just experience with no account required. It may seem small but it is a hurdle faced when adoption is explored.

I Use It and Like It

I've used Aurasma on maybe 20 projects over 5 years and it's my favorite AR authoring app. I've tried some of the others and kept coming back to Aurasma. It's free up to a point. It's relatively easy to learn but there are some things that should be intuitive but are not to me. Use it for fun facility orientations, connect equipment to user guides for learners and maintenance workers...

Pros
It does what you need it to do and does it very well. Price is free for small projects.

Cons
Some things aren't as intuitive as they should be.

We have used HP Reveal for many productions at workshops. Meanwhile we recommend alternative apps to our visitors. Too bad. HP Reveal and before Aurasma was something of the best.

Pros
HP Reveal is excellent software for creating virtual images. Unfortunately, the app is only available on mobile devices.

Cons
HP Reveal on mobile devices is impractical and cumbersome. You can't import images, you have to create them on site. Without the HP Reveal Studio the offer has become unusable.

The major selling point for HP Reveal is to change everyday objects, events of places into augmented reality learning experiences. Reveal is a mobile application that works cross platform (Android and IOS). Though this application was originally created for sales and marketing, its uses are unlimited in the classroom. Educators can link pictures to videos or sound bites that can be played simply by scanning the picture with your phone’s camera. Scavenger hunts can be created on or off campus to get students moving around relating architecture to its meaning. Students can use Reveals features in project creation to link soundbites to images on a poster or in a presentation. Some features that make HP Reveal great are that it comes with built in data tracking and can be utilized with or without the app. The one con for this application is that even though there are some pre-loaded experiences, they are mostly designed for marketing. This leaves instructional designers and educators with the daunting task of creating experiences from scratch.

Pros
Brings AR into the classroom, livens up projects

Cons
Not a lot of pre-built uses in education.

Makes it more interactive for students

Pros
I use this for kids to view and image that links out to a video, PowerPoint or URL that has information I need them to view. Students like the app, and looking for the correct images to lead them to the information. It makes webquests, scavenger hunts much more interesting. It is easily integrated into lessons.

Cons
You need tablets to use this and sometimes kids get frustrated trying to line the images up on the screen.
