Clio allows me to invoice clients seamlessly and consistently while also tracking deadlines of import.

Pros

It offers customizable invoices, business report generation, accounting features, and many third-party integrations.

Cons

Multiple clients on one invoice can be problematic, insofar as Clio seems to be designed for a single client per matter arrangement.

Pros

Product needs some getting used to, but the process is well done because you have super necessary features easily accessible, the more difficult ones are accessible over time Most important: Task Management and Workflow Management; Billing and time keeping; Reports and Billable tracking for firm and individual; Client onboarding; Support

Cons

Missing and improvement: Better integration of cloud storage and document templating; even better workflow management more orientated to classic corporate industries and to start ups (see monday); better integration of outside counsel into task management Integration was simple

Pros

The intersection of tracking retainers, issuing invoices, and getting paid is also very good.

Cons

The easy on the eyes interface is valuable -- if I had to spend as much time with the Rocket Matter interface as I do with Clio it would affect the quality of work enjoyment.

Contact, Matter and Document creation, and organization in a mobile friendly and intuitive software that promotes growth with increased capacity created with efficiency and greater communication with clients because information is readily available and easy to share.

Pros

Having all of our contacts, matters and important case documents and information in the palm of your hand promotes organization and communication because the information is stored in Clio and easy to access and share.

Cons

The accounting system is still developing. Invoicing clients is amazing, and so are the Clio payments feature and accounts receivable reports.

Through the combination of reports and review, we have cut the monthly invoicing process down to just a few hours.

Pros

I also like that it is a 'real time' interface - so entries are immediately available and aren't 'posted' later.

Cons

I find this to be a big hole in auditability. Also, there are just some times that you cannot change/delete/update a transaction - even though you, as the user, is understanding the impact.

It is nice to be able to handle billing, basic accounting, document management tasks in one place.

Cons

And I absolutely, 100% dislike the fact that the payments function prompts only for the "new" charges on any invoice rather than the full balance due.

Excellent Platform for Solos

I have had excellent experience with this software and constantly recommend it to others, especially solo practitioners because I believe it gives a small office the same abilities of time and matter tracking that much larger firms have always enjoyed.

Pros

I love that I can track client bills and trust balances at a glance and can set and track goals for myself with billable time.

Cons

I also would change some minor details like adding more user-controlled functions to the reporting capabilities; for instance, I would like to be able to customize exactly what data my reports generate (such as trust ledger reports that included the last action on an individual account).

Very easy to use

It makes part of my job easier. 1.Attorneys are much more comfortable going into Clio by themselves to enter their time or find information/reports instead of having to wait and rely on me to do it. 2.It's much easier and faster to quickly generate reports that split Time (by keeper) and Expenses. 3.Monthly billing goes by much smoother, invoices go out faster, payments are received much faster than if by mail.

Pros

Time entries can be imported by batch.

Cons

When looking at a past due bill (and additional bills have been issued and remain unpaid for that same matter) the Outstanding Balance on the Statement of Account section will update and include the balance due for that matter as of the current date + any open Trust Replenishment requests instead of the balance due for that invoice + the balance due of all invoices issued previously to that one. 2.

Clio also made it so simple for our firm to utilize and accept credit card payments and offer our clients electronic payment options.

Cons

Our website and Office 365 licensing was done through a third party vendor and that has impacted Clio’s ability to integrate the Outlook calendar.

Pros

Ease of use, accessibility, straightforward and efficient means for data entry and balance of accounts and client information; easy invoice generation; cost effective

Cons

The labels on some of the report options are somewhat misleading or vague and I have trouble remembering which reports I want to generate when compiling billing exhibits for judicial review.

The software has everything a growing law firm needs, from easy-to-use time keeping and management, to great looking invoices, to integration with trust and operating accounts, document management and more.

Cons

Sometimes, I think the CEO or CTO, or whomever makes the priority decisions is more a UI expert than an attorney.

I've had a very positive experience with Clio and the live support staff is really helpful when I've needed them.

Pros

I like Clio for it's comprehensive ability to provide the main tools that I need for management of my practice: communications tracking, timekeeping, billing, electronic payment for clients, and cloud access.

Cons

Sometimes, I have a hard time figuring out how to run reports to help me analyze metrics for productivity and profitability.

Pros

The dashboard tracking of the firm metrics, which helps us to monitor our billing progress on a daily basis.

Cons

The bills menu and sub menus as they relate to past due bill management, and the inability to separate out current bills from past due bills in an easy manner.

Clio's decision to commit to the "platform" and prioritize API availability is what makes Clio a good investment.

Pros

- Over 6 years, outtages have been minimal - Clean, consistent UI/UX - Commitment to API availability - The Clion-powered support has been amazing for our clients

- UX is very chatty at times; high-volume data entry is not especially efficient

I was among the first Clio users, and I still love it!

Timekeeping, invoicing, tracking of client expenses, documents and scheduling.

Pros

Since its all cloud-based, I can access my timekeeping and invoice files anywhere I have internet.

Cons

Time has to be "billable" to appear in reports, so administrative time has to be made "billable" and then cleared out periodically by "billing" it, to generate year-end reports.

Whenever I have an issue, I call the help line and am assisted by a real human being who can talk me through my issue quickly and expertly.

Cons

I wish there was an easier way of dealing with writing off invoices which will ultimately be paid, just not in this fiscal year.

Great Practice Management Software

Clio keeps my clients' information all together and integrated with my file management through Dropbox (which is optional, but really useful!). Bills also sync with my accounting software (I use Xero, but it works with QB, too).

Pros

Dropbox integration, Xero integration, complete client-management system (so no other software other than accounting software is needed for practice management)

Cons

It would be nice if the custom fields for client contacts were better-integrated. Pricing is also a little high for a solo-practice.
