Pros

It has a great interface which makes it feel very easy to use and has a great set of templates you can use from the beginning for various accounting needs.
For a small company as myself the excellent invoice features has been very helpful and useful.
FreshBooks combined with other applications is a great tool. In any case, if you want to create invoices and send it in a split second and then track and monitor its progress, I recommend FreshBooks.

Cons

We would lose all of that if we switched, so unfortunately we are stuck with having to use this horrible new format.
It is really frustrating to have a client not be able to pay through the invoice, and for this reason, only, I have been considering a new software company.
Tier based pricing from Lite to Premier is a bit confusing. WePay advocates having a Chase bank account for faster processing otherwise fails to integrate.

I used Freshbook for about 2 years with two different companies. Overall it was a solid product and did almost everything that I needed. At the time I stopped using it the reason was because of some limitations around how retainers functioned didn't quite align with my workflow but the product generally worked well.

Easy to use, quick to learn, always did what it was supposed to

Easy to create business invoices

Creating business invoice and workflow of the business.

Pros

The user interface is very simple to use. I mostly work 4 hours daily on this and never get feel tried and it saves my time also. There are many inbuilt features that I used to create business flow charts which helps me to focus on weak areas.

Cons

It should add more feature to transfer invoices automatically. I hope this will be fixed soon in next version.

Good alternative to QB

Quick expense tracking, time tracking, and project management/workflow.

Pros

The software has a nice feel and appealing format on the screen. The overall look and feel is crisp and there is a nice work-flow from the dashboard. I also like that there is integrated time tracking - which is something the closest competitor leaves out. Project management also seems to be a feature that QB does not offer in it's online offering.

Great at first, however my company grew out of the services offered.

Pros

It’s good for those who have very little experience in accounting and a fairly small business to run. Has all of the basic tools you need to keep all of your business finances organized.

Cons

Not enough features for invoice heavy based businesses. Storage capacity is minimal for a heavy workflow.

Missing key features

Two things really bug me: Pricing should not be tied to a customer!! I do web projects that last a week at a value of $2k sometimes. I will have a hundred customers pretty easily. The pricing does not seem to match volume businesses. Perhaps I am missing something. Also, recording shareholder loans and other money movements not tied to expenses such as transfers to another account would Really be beneficial. I'm issuing FreshBooks as my bookkeeping software. Without this, it makes it harder. Lastly, I don't know why, but the UI always seems hard to use for me. Particularly around reporting and searching. The search UI should remain open if the results are filtered.

Pros

Easy to track expenses. Easy to generate invoices and track the workflow of getting paid.

Cons

Payments are awkward since any bank transfer etc isn't pulled in from the feed of my account but must be applied manually.

Easy time tracking, custom rates per customer, notes for each time log, automatic invoice generation, online payment options, notifications when the invoice has been viewed, accepted, and paid.

Pros

It made billing and time tracking a breeze. When it comes to being a freelancer and doing hourly consulting work for companies it is my number 1 choice! It's easy to use and grows with your business. Also, the payment integration makes getting paid easy.

Cons

Some of the modules were not as intuitive as I would have liked, but it didn't take long to figure out how their workflow is outlined.

This review is about the old (aka "classical") interface

I've been using Freshbooks (classic interface) for a year because it is the tool of choice by the agency that hired me. I guess it is okay, it serves its purpose. For me though, it required some time (and several reach outs to the administer) to start understanding how to use it. If I were to choose from a similar software for my personal needs, I definitely would look somewhere else.

Pros

I can't think of anything I specially liked about this software; for me it always was more of an annoyance than a relieve to use it. If I was given the chance, I'd have used anything else.

Cons

- Clunky interface - Awkward workflow - Hit couple of downtimes due to maintenance without being properly informed about it (and thus leaving me bitting the dust when I most needed to use it)

Using FreshBooks helped me track client work more easily and keep my billing and expenses more organized.

Pros

Probably my favourite thing about using FreshBooks as an entrepreneur / self-employed individual is the ability to create professional estimates and proposals.

Cons

As with integrating anything new into your workflow or business there can be a bit of a learning curve, but this can be overcome relatively easily and the website is extremely helpful as a knowledge base.

I've been trying to keep tabs on my invoice payments, trying to find a way to manage my income and expenditure. As a freelance designer, FreshBooks has helped me to be better at personal financial administration.

Pros

I love how I have a central place for all my invoices and quotes, workflow and it keeps me in the loop with how much I've made (Because designers need this so much).

Cons

It's admin in general. If I could ask FreshBooks to do everything for me without my intervention, then I'd be a very happy creative.

After they finally got the CIBC data import function working, it saved me time. Having FB staff importing my data manually into my file is not a workable solution.

Pros

The workflow is pretty solid, although after the launch of the current version they have struggled to implement many of the basic features that users came to appreciate from the previous version. iOS/Web integration is good.

Cons

Limited functionality. Will in no way replace a bookkeeper, really just a way to track expenses and invoice a couple of clients.

I absolutely love this software. I could go on and on about it, but I might not be able to stop myself. It gets my highest recommendation, especially for creative professionals.

Pros

Pretty much everything. This app is perhaps the easiest to use software that I use in my workflow. It is outstanding. You can create an invoice in seconds. I also like the feature that lets you know that a client has viewed the sent invoice.

Cons

This is a tough one. I guess I will have to say that I wish the iPad version had more features.

Pros

Ease of use and functionality. The layout fits a natural workflow. Frequent tasks are immediately available. More arcane tasks are hidden, but easy to find. The output is professional, and I find the notifications are timely and relevant. My experience with support was good insofar as rapid, helpful suggestions were given.

Cons

Importing from external sources (e.g., banks) could be easier. A large part of the problem lies with banks not sharing nice. It would be helpful if there was some kind of cave or xls etl

Ease of use is the primary concern I had when shopping around for accounting software. There's an overabundance of competitors but Freshbooks seems to be the right move for my small business. The user experience is very straightforward and simple to understand. I personally think more software should be designed with this type of workflow.

Cons

Goal setting is somewhat limited. It's not the most urgent feature but allowing myself to set KPI's would be a useful addition. Perhaps this will be added in the future.

Long time customer. Change cuts both ways

We have developed all of our solutions around fresh books from customizations in our workflow processing to selecting an accounting firm that will support our dependence and comfort with this platform. There is not yet total functional parity between the “old fresh books“ and new fresh books... but it is coming along...and the support is always outstanding while they get there

Pros

Hands-down the most impressive aspect of fresh books is the customer support. Monotonous tasks or more complicated requirements are approached by a customer support team that answers the phone instantly and works to help you get your work done. The advances that have been made especially in the payment handling utilizing the Advanced payment feature, which is an additional cost, has revolutionize the way our business is able to store and process payments using their PCI compliant service

Cons

The willingness for FreshBooks to hold onto it it’s more humble roots and allow long time small business or individuals to use their legacy accounts has declined quite significantly and it is not a good cultural shift. I have a harder time recommending freshbooks if for a small start up there is a cost on top of a learning curve. There needs to be a free tear if they are going to maintain the businesses that haven’t got off the ground yet

It's ok for freelancers but not the first that I would recommend

User friendly time tracking and invoicing.

Pros

The interface is easy to use and great for invoicing and time tracking. There are limited reports and while you get basic bookkeeping features, I wouldn't call it an accounting software. This is ok for freelancers that need time tracking and plan to do all of their bookkeeping, for everybody else I recommend other services.

Cons

Accountant access is view-only, so I don't recommend it to my customers that want me to do their bookkeeping, yes they could just create an username for me, but that is not ideal to my workflow. Customer support for accountants is painfully slow, I submitted an inquiry that took weeks to replied to. For these reasons I no longer recommend this software to my clients.

Really good, solid invoicing platform. Long time user.

There are some things about the workflows that I wish could be made more seamless and efficient. I feel like it takes too many clicks to do something like send out a quick estimate for a potential client, but maybe that's just me. With their newer platform, they seem to have listened to a lot of feedback from users to make their software better. When I've needed to contact support, either by phone or email, they are super friendly and actually seem to care about resolving your issue, which is nice. I've been a happy user for years and recommend it to others who need an online invoicing solution.

Pros

As a long-time user (9 years), I've developed a workflow around Freshbooks so that I can track time, send invoices, draft estimates, and get paid pretty fluidly. It's integrated into my business, and I appreciate that it also integrates with other apps I may need to use. I find it's easy to use and does what I need it to.

Cons

In their newer version, they've taken away the Paypal integration, which turned off a bunch of my clients who prefer to pay that way. A few other things are a bit buggy, but seems to be due to my migrating from their "Classic" platform to the one they have now. For someone starting fresh with New Freshbooks, I doubt they would have these types of issues.
