Xero is my accounting software of choice for all my clients

Xero, along with several add-ons have allowed me to realize my dream of having and growing my business while having the location freedom to travel and escape from the Canadian winters! It has also allowed me to grow my business to serving clients all across Canada and the USA which is something that would dnot have been possible using the software and business model I had previously.

Pros

I love that it is a fully functional accounting package that is cloud-based. It allows me and my clients to work from anywhere and still keep our numbers and business running smoothly. Since my business focuses mainly on Entrepreneurs running businesses online the amazing suite of integrations makes thins so much "easier" for my clients on a day to day basis.

Cons

The only "con" that I have is that it is a subscription-based service and that it can be pricey for new businesses starting out. Their base packages that I have access to as an accountant are good for other types of businesses but for an online based business no matter how small, the transaction limit for the smaller packages is waaaay to small.

Overall, Xero has been excellent at providing an accounting software system for small business clients that is user friendly and has excellent product support.

Pros

Xero offers excellent support resources and communicates regularly with customers, advising of product updates and features. Using Xero is easy and with the on-screen support Xero Central support feature, help is always at hand.

Cons

Xero is not scaled for manufacturing clients and lacks stock management capability. Larger clients may be looking for a more scalable solution with stock management and offline access.

So many holes discovered only after using the software for a while

Overall, it runs the business. If there were other options, I wouldn't hesitate to move. The holes make growing the business next to impossible.

Pros

At first, it's easy to like. Then, when you need more out of it (bank feeds, your choice of credit card processors, interest on overdue invoices, etc.) it starts to fall apart. Several of those features were requested over 8 years ago. They haven't responded yet.

Cons

No email support. No Phone support. No way to ask for important features to be added.

Xero has been an absolute game-changer for my business, and I can't imagine managing my financial tasks without it. I use it daily, and it has become an indispensable tool that streamlines my financial processes. Furthermore, the seamless integration with Link My Books has made it even more powerful and time-saving.

Cons

You need to put in some work to learn the process which is hard but trust me long term will pay off 100 times over.

Xero is perfect for small nonprofits

Overall, I would recommend this, especially for small non-profit groups. It expedites the treasurer position and makes your group information more secure and easy to transition power. Make your group professional in finances and you'll feel more professional in all aspects!

Pros

This is an absolutely easy integration platform. Set up was a breeze and it provides a quick and easy accounting platform for a small business or non-profit. I also like that there are levels of use so you can decide what features you need.

Cons

It feels a little too basic and adding historical information from excel is a bit labor intensive unless you can pay them to do it.

Pros

Xero is an easy to use accounting software package with a large library of add-on options. Bank reconciliation, invoice creation and reporting are all excellent features which are used on a daily basis by our finance team.

Cons

The cost has increased several times over recent months

Xero Cloud Accounting

I have used Xero cloud accounting since they launched in the UK around 2012, it is in my opinion the best cloud accounting platform for small businesses.

Pros

The ease of connecting your business bank account and quickly getting your financial and business data in order.

Cons

The payroll module is functional and great for smaller businesses, however other more specialist payroll software providers are better suited to managing larger payrolls.

Great experience overall, never had any major issues. From the get go it was easy to learn and navigate.

Pros

Easy to use, Has great in-depth features for compiling company specific reports, managing channels and customers. Invoicing is a breeze, keeping track of invoices and bills is super easy and user management is also quite flexible.

Cons

I've struggled with forecasting using Xero so I have generally done this seperately outside the program.

Makes the bookeeping process logical and easy to follow

If you’re a small or startup business owner and haven’t any understanding of bookkeeping, try watching some of the better youtube videos, especially those done by bookkeepers and accountants on basic theory and practice. Take your study seriously and cross-reference information. Then watch the Xero videos available, not just from the company itself but also from accountants and bookkeepers. Good luck and welcome to the 21st century of online bookkeeping!

Pros

Xero has an interface that's easy to read and to navigate. The setup process is well presented and the support is good in response to tickets and also in their excellent training programs. Once you’ve understood how the flow of importing transactions and bank feeds, reconciling and generating reports is presented, you can keep your bookkeeping well ahead of any competitor’s product.

Cons

Any bookkeeping software requires some knowledge, training and experience in the theory and process of accounting. Xero is no exception, despite what may be claimed. Having said that, Xero is the least difficult to comprehend of the better softwares available.

Widely used by accountants, Xero allows us to know all the metrics we need in our business at the click of a report.

Cons

Honestly can’t really think of a negative aspect of the software. It does exactly what we need it to do at a good price point.

Reporting is super useful, very segmentable. Integrations pull through data from credit cards etc with ease and give a live picture of financial health.

Cons

Limit of 2 bespoke integrations, a lot of complication that is useful for accountants but not user friendly.

Trying to speak to anyone on support is close to impossible and very difficult to find. If you are not a trained accountant some of terminology and ways to use it can seem challenging or difficult.

We save a lot of time with Xero as it is easy to use and meets our reporting requirements

Pros

-Easy to set up and good customisation for Chart of Accounts -Great integration with other tools to support payments, reporting, and AP/AR -Smooth user experience and strong knowledge base

Cons

-Foreign currency reporting can be complicated, i.e. on bank reconciliations you have to manually search for foreign currency bills to match against the bank transaction.

Pros

Easy application to use without any major training. The options are easily available on the menus, and no need to go dig around to find them. From the screens the buttons to generate invoice or create customers are easily found. I have a team without major accounting experience being able to easily use Xero.

Cons

There might be quite a lot of out of the box features but it is very difficult and very often impossible to customise further if we want to add some automations or some quick features.

Solid accounting software for a small business

Great overall financial management for our small business. Easy to approve and share transactions, and to see a road map for our financial future before our accountant gives us monthly reports.

Pros

Easy to create invoices, match transactions between Xero and your bank, and simple to view your daily balance. Invoices look professional with logo and custom business information, and you can email invoices to clients directly from Xero. You can also use their payroll portal, but we don't use that particular feature. Xero also connects with Stripe, our credit card processing company, and automatically handles the processing fees. We appreciated how easily it integrated with Stripe.

Cons

It's very easy to duplicate transactions, or to create invoices and bills within the wrong month. After doing so it's difficult to find the transactions and to delete them. I'm very savvy with software and spreadsheets and it definitely surprises me when my accountant contacts me to ask me about a transaction that appears to be a duplicate.

Overall i'm satisfied, it has everything I need to do my everyday responsibilities.

Pros

Easy to use and implement and cost is very attractive. Xero integrates seamlessly with other applications that we use, aka Expensify. Good reporting functions, though it would be great if users can build/further customize reports on their own if need be.

Cons

Lack of customer service. Troubleshoot/training is all via online community support. Limited report build.

Exceptional. The experience all the way from the start to present has been so smooth and very effective. Xero has helped us have a reliable solution for managing our accounts and ensuring finances are well managed within the company.

Pros

When searching for an accounting tool, we found a perfect match of what we pictured as an ideal tool for our needs in Xero. First, it was easy to use and this makes our accounting work very simple. It is so secure so we never have to worry of loosing our data and information. Xero gives us a range of features which helps us to conveniently take care of all our accounting works like billing, invoicing, expenses tracking, financial reporting and more from a single product.

Cons

I never had any distress with Xero. So i have no comments on this part.

I like that in one software, I can take care of quotes, invoices, and bookkeeping. It also has so many functionality that I can do all the bookkeeping by myself and I save on hiring any bookkeeper

Cons

I wish it was easier to integrate WordPress and Xero for my website subscriptions. It would be great if the system could automatically generate invoices and send them to customers upon purchase.

I like how Xero makes it easy for beginners and new people to do business and get started. There is lots of help and FAQ options for people making it easy to resolve issues.

Cons

The editing process for invoices and bills could be a little easier as well as more flexibility of editing the look of your invoices. Some features more tailored to WET and wine products.

In general, Xero is good cloud accounting solution which is many times easier to maintain than Sage.

Pros

The speed of setting up the company and linking the bank. The online banking we use is not the easiest however, Xero had this covered.

Cons

You cannot fully delete archived Invoices which can cause conflicts if you import old invoice numbers. We had a clash of new system and old invoice numbers and this caused problems with having to credit. It would have been easier if the invoice number could have just been edited.
