It is a necessary evil.
EHR are here to stay. The processes in this are much better than the other ehr that I have used. I would like to see some refinement though.
I don't like the lag sometimes. I am less than enthused about the volume of users that I can use at a given time though.

For a single practitioner, there is no upfront or ongoing cost for EHR and the % on collections is reasonable. You can 'customize" how you use the EHR to your patterns.
Calling in for help can be cumbersome as the people are not always on the spot with their answers. Wait time is ok.

The software beautifully integrates EHR, billing, and practice management functions.
Account Managers often seem unhelpful and uneducated. However, the Client Support Center (CSC) is able to take care of most questions and concerns.

Terrible flow, e-scripts always have issues. Closing charts is nearly impossible to do in less than 5 mins
Nothing at all. It lacks everything an EHR should have

I work in an internal medicine office. We deal with any and all kinds of medical issues. We also deal with any and all kinds of insurances. We have an integrated Athena product of scheduling, clinical and billing. I can navigate from billing issues and re submissions, to finding when a patient had his last tetnus shot, to printing out an order for a mammogram. The ease, fluidity and quality of the...
Easy to learn and easy to work with. Billing is great and the rules based system is so helpful and our errors are less than 1% because of it.
That my internet is not as fast as the capability of the EHR.

I think, a complete EHR means, we should have ability to do everything paperless, instead you are recommending us to hire other company's to do that.
Once you learn the software, I believe this is really the best EHR
We still has to give patients paper forms and then scan it. This should not be the case

AthenaOne allowed our business to consolidate many of our third-party apps into one complete EHR system.
AthenaOne is an all-in-one EHR system that has most, if not all, the features one could want in their EHR. If you wish to consolidate your softwares into one product, AthenaOne is a good option.
The worst part of AthenaOne was the lengthy onboarding process. While it is to be expected when switching EHR systems, our original sales representative did not give an accurate impression of just how extensive and lengthy the implementation is. Expect to need several full time employees working only on integration for several months.

Honestly, the salesperson was the reason we went with Athena. Everything that they promised never came to fruition.
The most difficult EHR to use. Definitely NOT user friendly and the training was horrible.

The scheduling feature works well and the EHR is better than others we have worked with.
The billing and posting by Athena is absolutely terrible. We have found payments posted without receipt of the actual payment and HUNDREDS of payments/adjustments posted incorrectly. Claims are not worked like we expected. It just seems that if payment doesn't come automatically or they can't get it taken care of with one phone call, the claim is placed in a "hold" for the office to work. The posting is outsourced and unfortunately I do not believe the employees are trained properly. Our in office billing team has found thousands of dollars worth of mistakes but what really scares us is how many we have missed! (of course we should NOT have to go back behind and double check work in the first place)

Very disappointed, I changed my EHR and billing service to another carrier
No contract, No monthly cost, which is good for start up, but the support is so bad that it hurts start up companies.
The worst customer service. No real support. Confusing software. Financial is the worst, the banking team refused to help or take there time to speak with you.

My clinic uses the Collector component of AthenaHealth and I am most impressed with their support staff. Questions and concerns are routed to the appropriate department BEFORE you speak to support staff - making your calls extremely streamlined. Hold times are minimal, all issues are assigned case numbers and are resolved within minutes and, in my case, 48 hours for a worst case scenario. Claim processing is extremely important and being able to address claim issues with a live person is most helpful. I also appreciate their software transparency - all information re: your clinic is available via reports.
My least favorite thing about AthenaHealth is the cost of implementing their Clinicals component, which is their EHR program.

The EHR was easy to use. The best part is Athena's back office support. They handle all aspects of insurance filing reducing the need for additional staff just to handle billing and filling functions. Their pricing is based on % received which cover the EHR and back office services.
The % was a little concerning, although when the cost of additional staffing is included in the analysis, not so bad.

It's a very robust EHR and practice management tool with every feature under the sun that you could want.
Over the past 5 years we have been a client, our practice has had numerous account managers and every time they re-assign us to a new one, they get worse and worse. Less knowledgeable about the product, less responsive to our emails and calls etc. They've stopped doing regular check-ins every quarter or even year like the used to. They don't help us implement new features like credit card processing,...

AthenaOne is a organized EHR. It can handle medical words and assessment for my patients.
This software helps me in creating charts and informations for my patients in my client clinic. It is easy to manage.

It is a great software to use and cost effective compare to other EHR software.
athena Clinicals is a great EHR software, user friendly and save time for documentation and billing process. It is useful to get all patient information including medical history, labs and medication chart.
It required basic computer skills to navigate through different tab and initially take some time but with in week or two costumer can understand how to navigate it.

Built for the medical billing and EHR community. Very robust and thorough with many features to assist with new regulations

This is my second EHR for my practice and I also use Epic for inpatient work at hospital. I have looked at many EHRs and there is no such thing as the perfect one. However, Athena meets my needs most of the time and is by far the best of the bunch I have encountered to date.
Fairly easy to use and fairly Mac friendly. The billing side of the service is fantastic and best in class as far as I can tell. They could not do a better job of making sure I get all of my money - payments as well as incentives.
Template and Macro generation is a bit clunky. Really all the same stuff one can encounter with just about any EHR.

AthenaHealth EHR is an affordable way for a small practice to have a quality EHR. I pay a percent of my collections. I like the tie between what I get paid determines what Athena gets paid. That gives Athena a healthy interest in my business' financial performance.
I love that I have the ability to customize my order sets and templates. I also like that I can draw on the expertise of other medical practice templates so that I didn't have to re-invent the wheel in many instances!
Sometimes there is a hesitation in changing "pages". It is a cloud based software so my local internet and the internet where the software is located do play into the speed of use.

I've been utilizing this product for approx. six months. It is quite easy to learn the basics, and I like that the product is customizable in so many ways. As with all EMRs, there is a learning curve - initial basic usability comes quite easily. I have not yet learned all the nuances and tricks. Most things are common sense. We are a free clinic, and therefore do not utilize the entirety of billing....
Customizable physical exams and treatment plans. Flowsheet ability for a variety of diagnoses. Reporting capability is easy. Downtime is negligible. Overall very robust EHR
Minor issues - would like ability to group labs (e.g. labs ordered today but to be done in 6 weeks - my poor nurse has to deal with all of these). Would like something on med list or status for patients who are currently breastfeeding. Would like LMP right on check-in/vitals screen for women.

Overall, Athena is a good EMR / EHR to use. You can also sign up for their billing portion and pay less to an RCM team so it gives you good options.
I like the fact that it gives clients the ability to both have an EMR / EHR and also outsource billing at the same time.
Sometimes the Athena team doesn't talk or convey information back to the billing management team. This can cause confusion in cases like accounts that have been sent to collections.

Requested a refund because although we were told we went live initially, over a month later we were told oh I don't know who said that our why but you aren't live. Then even after the new Mgr took over, nothing worked ad described. But was told I was not entitled to a refund. Worst waste of money for my practice ever.
Erx is about it Nothing else seemed to work well at all. We were told multiple things that were absolutely false, our accounts were ignored until major complaints, then people tried to be overly helpful and available, always CCing their boss.
Everything else No support, implementation managers always MIA, unless they are trying to impress a boss. Worst situation I've ever experienced with an EHR.

This is the only EHR I have used (only 1 year), but it was easy to get the hang of.
Very easy to catch on, ATHENAFAX, easy to upload documents and code them to be autopopulated (if you can't do it yourself, Athena support can help you). GREAT customer service, great report builders.
Some clinical features are slow to load, such as collapsible menu options.

This company sold us their “EHR only” version, knowing our intentions to use our own billing company and not theirs. They failed to disclose that this would cripple our front desk - we could not verify insurance, see an account balance, scan any ID cards, or utilize an appointment reminder system. You know, features you think would be there. We only learned these things after asking about them, mid-implementation...
EHR software was attractive on demo, and appeared to be user-friendly. The cost was a little high, but seemed worth it at first.
This company was dishonest with our practice about what we purchased, and their business model is unethical.

Horrible. There is nothing positive about the experience. Of note, Athena makes the practice purchase an overpriced credit card processing machine, and refuses to take it back (even if unopened and never used).
The EHR portion is very comprehensive, and easy to use. The sales team is really great - they demonstrate all of the potential uses of their system.
Onboarding is a nightmare. Athena offers no support to set up the software, and admonishes physicians to finish specific tasks that Athena should be doing. The price is astronomical - even for set-up. There is very poor ongoing support.
