Pros

The software is user friendly so that help's me as an Owner to train new staff on billing. I also love the "unpaid insurance claim" report that helps my employees to work the Account's Receivable's.
With a few tweaks to the system (I'd love to help!), coupled with its extreme ease of use and excellent reliability, Kareo EHR could become a powerhouse in the rapidly growing urgent care market.
The best product I have every used and when I need help the service is excellent.

Pros

It is easy to use, once you get the appropriate training and practice. I like that is a great investigative tool to search for timelines in the past.
I really liked that it was easy to navigate and easy to find what I need for my patients. I like that you have to enter in certain information in order to move forward.
I have worked with several different electronic medical record resources through my educational career, but this one champions all the rest. It has an excellent, user friendly interface.

Cons

This is a truly terrible billing software with poor customer service. I strongly advise talking with your billers before going down this road.
They will leave you on the phone for 25-40 minutes before getting you some body who will brush you off. You have to figure your problems by yourself or suck it up.
Kareo knew about the problem, saw what was happening and could not fix it. It was yet another Kareo glitch due to the badly executed and buggy software.

Cons

Perhaps that is a limitation set up by my provider but that's annoying that I can't message a doctor from several years ago.
It was always a inconvenient time but I think that was the IT department's choice, not the actual software's choice; for this review anyways.
Steep learning curve, and i'm not even sure if that's something that can be fixed. People that have had other systems and are older struggle sometimes.

Not the best, maybe the worst...

Reviewed 3 years ago

It's an EMR that's not too expensive.

Pros

I like that it's internet based and therefore I don't have any additional software to download for clinical use. I do like that you're able to message patients directly on their phones as an email or text.

Cons

I do not like this software. The billing/ AR and the clinical side have two Kareo systems and they are not seamless. I do not like that there are different labels for documents in each system. I do not like that you're unable to correct financial input errors without contacting support. I do not like that there isn't a simple way to balance funds at the end of the day. In many ways, they cripple you in day-to-day use. I do not like how multiple page faxes come in as one-by-one .tif files. It makes the task of linking/ arranging documents cumbersome.

Beware

Reviewed 2 years ago

Terrible experience with excessive sales pressure for what I thought was a free trial but actually locked me into a year long contract. I should have read the paperwork more closely. Now I'm stuck with a $1500 cancellation fee versus setting up my practice with an EMR that is a poor fit for my needs. The billing department doesn't care.

Pros

Many features, seems fairly comprehensive in terms of EMR/billing/Rx.

Cons

I'm a solo provider and Kareo is built for a larger practice. I needed a simpler, more streamlined EMR to modify/optimize for my practice. The visit workflow, billing setup and managerial upkeep are way too burdensome and needlessly complicated for my needs.

Vendor response

Hello, Ariele, and thank you for sharing your honest feedback with us. We apologize that Kareo was not a good fit for your practice. We also apologize for any confusion regarding the terms of your agreement. Kareo does not offer a trial period but has offered a period of time at no cost with the signing of an agreement to some customers, as we did in your case. We also are sorry that you felt pressured...

Easy to use, but difficult to maintain in urgent care

Reviewed 5 years ago

One major draw for EMR systems is customizability, I feel with Kareo I wasn't able to customize the EMR to the providers' needs.

Pros

The system was easy to use, basically click on an area and type in your medical chart. Easy to use on most platforms (both Apple and PC).

Cons

Patient eligibility was faulty. The patients eligibility was "unable to be determined" more often than not, we had to use third party sites or call for verification of eligibility.

horrible experience

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

EMR notes and templates once set-up are shareable with all providers

Cons

The system goes down repeatedly and they cannot fix it. It renders the practice completely inoperational, for example you cannot send electronic medications which here in Florida is the law. You cannot access notes, bill patients, collect copays and are forced to either reschedule everyone or practice unsafe medicines (guessing what medicines they are on and calling them in to write your notes later). This happens for days at a time and the kareo software engineers arent capable of fixing it. It was so bad in january they refunded our monthly bill. Customer support is usless during this time as they read from a script "sorry for the problem." Look elsewhere for EMR if you want one to actually work.

Vendor response

Hello Richard, Thank you sincerely for sharing your experience with us. We are sorry to hear that you've experienced a recent concern. We have recently come across an issue with our ePrescribing function that has at this time been resolved. We are closely observing the resolution and our full attention is on maintaining the integrity of this feature now and going forward. We understand how large of an impact this has on practices, which is our motivation to have a consistent and reliable product. Someone will be reaching out soon to discuss your concerns in more depth. Thank You, Kareo

While they do integrate with your clearinghouse, it is a nightmare getting them to find missing ERAs. It does integrate with our current EMR system, but there are better software options that integrate with your EMR that have better customer support.

Satisfied user of Kareo PM. Would recommend.

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

Last year we decided to take a leap and begin our own practice. Starting from scratch meant lots of decisions to be made. We wanted a practice management system which would coordinate with an EMR and after a lot of looking, realized Kareo could meet both needs. For us, the low start up costs were important as well. The team at Kareo was very helpful in getting us up and running, especially given that I had no medical front office experience at all. They helped me get up to speed on billing and have also been helpful when claims issues arise.

Cons

The EMR is not quite as user friendly as the PM system but it did get us up and running. I would like to see a bit more robust search functionality in the "help" area.

Love Kareo Billing

Reviewed 2 years ago

The benefit to this billing software is that it is very functional and we are able to track every claim with ease.

Pros

Our company began using this software for billing almost 2 years ago. It was easy to set up and is very compatible with our EMR, Practice Fusion. I am the biller and I use this software daily. I find this software to be very functional, easy to maneuver and access all information in an efficient manner.

Cons

The integration of the software went very smoothly. There are a couple of things I would like to see this software do. One is to be able to see what "dates" the patient "unapplied amount" balances are from, without having to open up a settled DOS to "Apply Payment" for informational purposes. and two.. to be able to make notes in the "insurance aging" for each claim that is delinquent, so that when we open up the aging we can see if the claim has been worked on and what progress has been made to get claim paid. Other than that, I'm totally in love with this software. :)

Easy to use and great price

Reviewed 6 years ago

I've been using Kareo for about 4 months now with my mental health practice. It is a great value given the price compared to others and is easy to use and user-friendly. I use the billing, scheduling, and marketing modules. I do not currently use the EMR module.

Pros

Price, ease of use, and ability to access the fundamental features from both PC and Apple products including tables.

Cons

Periodically appointments on my schedules will disappear after the patient has been "checked out". Also, there are problems when you switch back and forth between the PC application and the web-based functions. Lastly, customer service has not yet fixed these errors, despite me emailing and calling for months.

KAREO makes Job easier

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

I like the ease of KAREO, reporting ability and the way that it works seamlessly with our EMR software. Also our ability to send out "clean" claims has helped to reduce our payment velocity and reduced the number of rejected claims. Also I the chat support is a great tool to have especially if you are on the East coast.

I have been using Kareo since 2006, and I find the ease of use and the ability to integrate with multiple EMR products is good. The navigation through the system, the multiple window feature, and the ability to switch back and forth without closing windows helps me. There are many cloud-based products on the market, but I think Kareo keeps getting better with each (free) update.

However, once we merged my worries were gone! Still, after 3 years with Kareo I am still satisfied. They are constantly making changes that better the system which I love. I can always call Kareo with any questions and they always provide the assistance that I need. If I were asked if I would recommend Kareo to another office, my answer would be most definantly, yes. Not recommended for start-up clinics

Reviewed 6 years ago

As a start-up and not being able to open for several months, having your arm twisted to purchase an PM/EMR/Billing solution is not being considerate on the part of Kareo. A start up has many things to do and many things to invest in without wasting money on a system that will not be used due to time constraints. We paid from our limited resources for nothing for a couple of months. Even after canceling they are still trying to bill us. I consider them to be insensitive to the needs of a start-up and would not recommend them. They have a good sales pitch but my trust level was completely destroyed and I switched to another company.

We started using Kareo three years ago when we opened the practice, we came right from Residency and had no idea how to bill just that we needed to save that 6-8% and keep it in-house. We needed a system that was intuitive and was integrated with our EMR and Kareo met all our needs. Each day I log in, I can see exactly where we are as a practice. I do everything from billing to AR effortlessly. Kareo has a great training system and excellent customer support, i'm not surprised when i get a call from a Director or even a VP, they seem to really care that each customer is satisfied. Improved functionality for research

Reviewed 3 years ago

We are continually using EPICCare EMR for it's increased research features including the ability to access records from other institutions that use EPIC. It has been integral in research billing and compliance.

Pros

EPIC has features that enhance the ability to do research at an academic hospital. There are ways to create patient lists, get customized notifications and track billing to ensure the appropriate charges are passed on to either insurance or the research study. You can easily determine and track research participation and progress and run reports.

Cons

Not all the research features are intuitive. It does take a bit of a learning curve to understand some of the back end systems for reporting.

Successful Program

Reviewed 2 years ago

I would recommend Epic to another business in the same industry or field as myself. I feel like this is a much needed app that has proven to be successful in the medical industry.

Pros

I work for an emergency answering service so Epic comes in handling when dealing with billing, medical records or appointment setting. I was able to catch on quickly and move through the application with ease.

Cons

I wouldn’t argue that there are any downfalls to this app that I have encountered thus far.

Epic User

Pros

I think Epic has done a great job in creating a very user-friendly interface for both doctors and the medical staff. I especially like the insurance billing features that are lacking in many other medical software.

Cons

The only thing I don't like about Epic is logging in which usually can take up to 10 minutes at my job. Slow to start, but once started it's good and fast.

I truly enjoy working with this software. It is a really good and easy software to use it’s user-friendly and has a lot of features and customization which we use at my hospital.

Pros

I use epic to review charts and I also use it as a billing software. We are extremely pleased with how efficient this product is. I have worked with a lot of EMR softwares in the last 10 years and epic is my favorite one. It is efficient, cohesive and has great features like the warnings when something is wrong with a claim.

Cons

There’s a bit too much information when looking at billing accounts if it could be streamlined a bit better it would make things easier to review. But I believe this will be updated with the new version we are about to get.

EMR Review

Reviewed 10 months ago

Epic is amazing and all of the employees are very caring. The training process is awesome and you have to go see the campus.

Pros

I work for a Healthcare Organization that includes 3 hospitals, 40 some clinics and a Urgent Care, and what we found most valuable is being able to see the patients medication list across our entire Healthcare System. We really wanted to streamline our billing and outpatient departments.

Cons

The use of the Remote Client, this is something that we feel could be updated.

Epic helpful EMR for hospital setting

Reviewed 3 years ago
Pros

First EMR used since implementation due to ACA. Easy to click various aspects used during documentation. Billing easy and customizable. Like the empty fields available for free text as well as types of check boxes. Copy/paste for evaluations/re-evaluations helpful to see progress. Easy to navigate between multiple parts of patient records to see whole picture.

Cons

Template set. Unable to modify much for personal preference. Template thorough which means long making it more time consuming to navigate and document with.

Overwhelming EHR

Reviewed 4 years ago
Pros

I really do not enjoy this software, but if I had to find a pro, the software is all exclusive and allows for tons of information to be stored, all in it's own particular location for easy retrieving

Cons

I find this software much too overwhelming. I understand that all the requirements by insurance companies for billing are forcing for more and more info be searchable and included, but there is simply too much going on. Way too many clicks to perform single tasks. Do not like the layout, not user friendly. Worse software I have used in the field by far
