Pros and cons

User friendly and great tech support. Anything I’ve thought “that would be a great feature” and called about, they have a way to do already.
We use this software for a group practice, but it would be great for solo practice as well. All our therapists and manager loves it.
I have appreciated Customer Service for the most part over the years because they generally have responded quickly and in helpful ways when it comes to the program, itself.
However, when it has to do with the upgraded 2.0 system and the problems involved, the Customer Service is poor.
The loss to my business is nowhere equivalent to what they "make-up" in a measly small refund of a few bucks.
You can't see when more than one person is added to the message. It is in desperate need of revamping and is archaic.

Therapy Appointment is a Complex Program

Reviewed 3 years ago

I was disappointed with the program. It is a complex program that would be best for someone with tech savvy and previous billing expertise. It's not intuitive, and I found the tech support to be lackluster in regards to providing clear, step-by-step instructions when I had questions. One person was clearly in a hurry to get me off the phone, and that was the day I decided to discontinue using Therapy Appointment.

Pros

The documentation feature was the easiest to use. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. There were several templates to choose from, and the ability to create your own documentation template.

Cons

The initial information/demo session made it seem like Therapy Appointment was going to be easy to use and make my job easier. The demo was an in-person virtual meeting that was well done. However, the program itself wasn't intuitive, and frequently switching from one screen to another was necessary, so it made this part of my job more time consuming overall. Tech support wasn't as helpful as I've found in other companies. And the billing aspect of the program was a disaster for me. Very few of my bills were successfully submitted.

It’s a pretty good EHR

Reviewed 5 years ago

It’s ok. Could be more robust. We’ve been promised a 2.0 version for a long time without it coming to fruition.

Pros

Ease of use. Having an online schedule is very helpful.

Cons

The inability to have my initial forms online and put in their chart. Also, the inability to send things to my clients via the portal is really inconvenient. If it had the ability to use it for teletherapy would make it perfect.

Vendor response

Hi Julie! Thanks so much for your review of our Legacy product! We're excited to share that our new software, TherapyAppointment 2.0 does have these features! We can't wait to get your practice migrated as soon as the Current TA customer migration process is guaranteed lossless! Thank you!

TA is excellent and the customer services is bar none!

Reviewed 5 years ago

I have been using TA since before the 2.0 upgrade and I really enjoy it because it is so easy to use and the upfront pricing (there aren't any extra fees) is helpful and promotes the honesty that we need in our profession. I can't say enough about customer service, IT, and the insurance specialists-they are prompt, and problems or bugs get fixed quickly-plus they are so friendly and enjoyable to talk to while they are helping with the problem or explaining how to do something.

Pros

I love the fact that I can submit claims directly from TA and that they do a check to make sure everything is correct BEFORE I send the claim. It's easy to use and the customer service is so prompt, I feel like I have my own assistant! I like that my clients can confirm appointments, schedule online, email me and add attachments in a HIPPA secure environment.

Cons

I'd love to be able to upload custom documents that my clients can fill out and sign electronically such as a release of information.

Vendor response

Hi! Thank you for being part of our community and for your kind words. We are happy to have you! You'll be excited to know that TA2.0 does allow you to upload custom docs that can be signed with an e-signature. We are looking forward to migrating your practice when migration opens!

Simple product that does a lot

Reviewed 6 years ago

I have a simple, small practice. I don’t take insurance, and I don’t have many clients to manage, so I can’t speak to how robust it is for that purpose, but for the small amount of practice I need, it’s a wonderful value for the price. I get what I need, it’s secure, and it’s very affordable.

Pros

- Ease of scheduling - Versatility of application

Cons

- sometimes feels like it was designed by engineers, rather than by designers with user experience in mind. This appears to be changing, however, with the new 2.0 experience.

Vendor response

Hi Jason, Thanks so much for your feedback on TA2.0 and and the original TA! You're right, we have pushed to make TA2.0 a more user-friendly, intuitive experience with customers at the forefront of our every design decision. We're glad you noticed the changes! And we're elated to hear that TheraoyAppointment has provided a great value for you and your practice. That's what we strive for and, with your feedback, hope to continually improve upon! Thank you for being part of the TherapyAppointment family! Best, The TherapyAppointment Team

Great for Solo or Group Practice

Reviewed 6 years ago

TherapyAppointment really does help streamline notes and insurance claims/billing. I get to spend more time being productive seeing people, then pushing paperwork!

Pros

I've used this since opening my private practice- as a solo practitioner and now we have expanded into 5 therapist group practice. Love the quick response from customer support. I like the various options on how to write a note. Free admin accounts a bonus. The capability for ERA and automatic posting is great.

Cons

I don't like that we, as a therapist, cannot make appointments for the other therapists and have to have the admin account to do this. I believe with the new update this will be addressed.

Vendor response

Hi Karen, Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and for being part of the TherapyAppointment family! We are so happy to hear we've helped your practice streamline it's processes and been a part of it's growth! We do think you'll love TA2.0, and are looking forward to hearing the feedback from your growing practice. You're right -- customizable administrative controls have been expanded so that you have much more flexibility. Thank you again for your review and being part of our community! We hope that you love our new software and, together, we can continue to grow your practice! Best wishes, The TherapyAppointment Team

Amazing ReDesign

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

The layouts are thoughtful and intuitive, and easy to see the information on the page. It responds quickly, and is a very modern refresh of the old design.

Cons

The site still needs to be made more robust in ways to navigate and offer data delivery options.

Vendor response

Hi Doug, Thank you so much for your feedback! We are ecstatic to hear that you love TA2.0 and our extensive update! We've worked hard to make it responsive, intuitive, and modern, and appreciate that our efforts accomplished their goal. Wishing changes were implemented in increments

Reviewed 6 years ago

I was easily frustrated by needing to figure out where everything was since it is completely different than the current program. For those of us who have been using the older version for years it’s more mentally taxing b/c we have to learn the whole program again. I don’t have time for that.

Pros

I like how it has more features that other competing programs have. In particular calendar syncing.

Cons

How it vastly different to maneuver from the current program.

Vendor response

Hi Michele, Thank you for your thoughtful insights and for sharing. We're thankful you took the time to beta test and are honored to have you as part of the TherapyAppointment family. Awesome update for an awesome product

Reviewed 6 years ago

Since signing on with TherapyAppointment I have noticed a significant improvement in my ability to collect on outstanding balances especially those with high deductible insurances, which have increased significantly for me within the past year.

Pros

I have always loved this product. I am very excited for the update which I found very user friendly and much more efficient from a business standpoint. I really liked the look of the dashboard.

Cons

The only con I have had is with regard to the limits of the ability to send a fax out of the software. I think it would be helpful if we could send the progress note along with a fax to help with collaboration among medical professionals our patients see.

Good functionality but not very pretty

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

Very easy to use and intuitive. I like the statistics function and the reports I can run. Like that you can share files.

Cons

Can’t do room assignments. Isn’t very pretty. Would love if it could sync with google or outlook calendar

Vendor response

Hi Nicole, Thank you for your review. We are glad to know that you've found TherapyAppointment easy to use and intuitive. Also, glad the stats and reports have helped! Our goal is to help simplify managing a practice so that you can focus on patients, not paperwork -- it sounds like this has proved true for your practice! We do hear you loud and clear on the look of the platform -- this is definitely being addressed in Version 2.0, which will be released in late 2018. our testers have reported that it's clean and modern, yet still intuitive and easy to use. We've noted adding room assignments and syncing with calendars! This is something our dev team will love to know, so thanks for the feedback!

Nice overall product with a few fixes needed

Reviewed 6 years ago

Overall, it is a great product there are just a few tweaks that would be helpful

Pros

Ease of use - learning the software is extremely easy. Data entry is simple and managing patient database is easy and straightforward.

Cons

No insurance history is kept (if someone gets new insurance, you have to eliminate the old information to put the new insurance in)

Follows the work flow of a psychotherapist, saving time and making it easy to complete notes and send claims.

Reviewed 7 years ago

It may not look as pretty as competitors (but an upgrade is in the works), but it is priced for non MD budgets, works consistently effectively and is great value for the time and financial investment required. I love being free of paper.

Pros

Easy, cost effective, and clients LOVE the online scheduling, appointment reminders and email bills. It follows work flow so I don't waste time clicking from window to window. Customer service has been quick, responsive and effective every time over the last 5 years.

Cons

No to do list on the margin of all screens, would like a list of important history as a margin in patient prog notes, would like to send/receive/autoscore assessment tools, would like printing of notes to be an easier process.

Our company uses this and I love it.

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

It's super easy to navigate, with internal communication and I can access all of our providers, no matter what state they are in, with just the click of the mouse.

Cons

I haven't figured out how to delete an Insurance Co. LOL. I wish a refund, of any amount, was possible to make. If a patient over pays it has to be left as a credit or refund the entire amount.

I have used this product for years and love it.

Reviewed 7 years ago

Easiest practice management software that I have found. Their tech support is outstanding and you actually get to deal with people who work at the company and understand the system! All requests over the years have been resolved quickly!

Pros

All in one system for managing your practice. This is by far the easiest and most complete system I have found for scheduling, billing, accounting, and charting.

Cons

There are very few cons to list. Perhaps the only gripe I have (and it has long since been resolved) was some server downtime when they were transitioning to a new server. When everything is integrated into one program downtime is disastrous when you have several providers.

Expect Outages

Reviewed 7 years ago

I am in the process of switching over to a different system.

Pros

Easy to use, you can make some very basic templates if you want. No significant training needed to get started Low cost

Cons

Frequent outages Poor customer service - I asked for a partial credit due to significant outages and was arrogantly told that the electric company does not issue credits, and the most they would do would be to remove the outage time from the last bill when I decided to leave their system. They have promised an update for a while now, and still no ETA. Templates are very basic, you can only make a template with text, no check boxes, etc.

Vendor response

We have continued to test the software changes made in response to the recent service outages. and are convinced that the problem caused by by our new password encryption system using too many resources and crashing the system has been resolved. We also have a compensation policy that you will likely not find from most software companies. Here is our policy: we consider any service outage that...

Looking for a new software

Reviewed 7 years ago

My office of colleague are sadly looking elsewhere for our EMR.

Pros

user friendly and customer service is very helpful and kind. Love the 24 hour text message reminders to my clients.

Cons

The site is "out of service" often and refunds are not offered. I would not be concerned for a refund if this was not a regular occurrence, but unfortunately this is becoming a familiar pattern. My other concern is I have two different office locations and the software does not allow myself or clients to distinguish between the two offices when signing up for sessions.

I wish I hadn't ended up using this in the long run.

Reviewed 7 years ago

Honestly, I have sincerely avoided writing bad reviews, because I know the effect it can have on a business, and I am a positive person, trying to hang in there. However, I want to save somebody the headache that I am now dealing with. I would love to find a resolution. I have been holding on to the thought that Therapy Appointment will get better or at least make it right, but I'm a therapist. Out of anyone, I should be realistic and convince myself to lose all of my hard work and move on to another system. I am looking now, so if anybody can contact me with suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Pros

At first, there is a slight learning curve. Scheduling and billing was nice. sometimes reminder texts didn't go out. they called it a "glitch" and say that it's a service free of charge and the contract states that they're not responsible if something goes wrong with it. needless to say, many of my clients have come to rely on it, so on those days, I have quite a few no shows.

Cons

Have to have a separate clearing house, and they still don't have electronic paperwork. The website goes down almost once a week. I can't see my schedule, can't write notes, can't schedule new clients, my clients can't log on. Their solution has been to refund the few dollars from that day. The loss to my business is nowhere equivalent to what they "make-up" in a measly small refund of a few bucks. I have e-mailed and called on multiple occasions about this, but they have all the control and obviously don't care about losing my business.

You definitely get what you pay for

Reviewed 7 years ago

Not like other systems which have a lot of drop down menus, exploding text, radio buttons etc. to decrease documentation time. The one included template that has drop down menus, is not customizable. Notes are pretty much free hand typing but can be used with dragon if you want to document after seeing your patient. This really is basic and when the system goes down, at least twice a month for the entire day, customer support is unreachable. I have lost entire notes from system glitches and failures that happen frequently. It appears that the up time is about 95%

Pros

This product is pretty inexpensive and does the basics. It is easy to figure out how to use, because it doesn't do much.

Cons

Not for practices doing medication mgmt. and therapy, minimal customization, system frequently down

Great user interface

Excellent customer support. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Easy to use billing software.

Pros

Cons

The only intergtated payment option is Cayan which I'm not jazzed about due to cost and the fact they bill quarterly which makes it harder to reconcile/track. #1 EMDR TURN KEY WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED!!!!

Reviewed 9 years ago
Pros

Incredible turn key web based solution for Mental Health providers covering all aspects of EMDR, billing, intake notes, progress notes, reminder calls, documentation, easy online registration, direct billing to insurance comanies, and credit card payment processing. The developer and inventor of this product is a Doctoral Level Psychologist who understands the needs of mental health providers and he is committed to the ongoing development of the product. He and his staff are very responsive to concerns and questions. Absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend without reservation!

Cons

I am very very satisfied however the only tiny problem is when there is a problem with the server slowing down. However this company has resolved and worked with this issue. In fact the server slowing down is not a problem and it is very fast currently.
