Easy HRIS Tool for Small-Mid Size Companies

Pros

This software is very easy to customize to your organization's individual needs - especially if you are a start-up or small scale-up business. BambooHR also integrates with a lot of tools making the value skyrocket. It's also visually extremely easy to use and set up, and running reports is simple and fast.

Cons

We're moving into being a bigger size company which is complicated our workflow and the number of tools/integrations that we have set up with it. We're having to do a lot of different customization which means it's adding a layer of complication to our daily jobs. We now need something a little bit more robust. It would also be ideal to have different access level permissions as different people in the HR Team need to have specific access to data and information, while others don't.

A Solid HRIS System

My overall experience with BambooHR is great. I would recommend it to smaller mid size firms looking for a solution to manage the employee experience from applying to a job right through to leaving the company.

Pros

Bamboo is very easy to use and the Support is great. They always try to find a solution/workaround within the tool to help you accomplish your ask. The employees enjoy using it and find the interface engaging and fun.

Cons

I send in lots of suggestions on how to improve the features of BambooHR. BambooHR seems to focus on ones that I find no value in for the most part. Reporting, Request Signature, and the File section need greater focus.

Pros

BambooHR is very user-friendly, which is really nice for a small company that doesn't have one person dedicated to just HR duties. Employees very rarely have issues using it, and it has so many features included in each package. Customer service usually responds very fast and wait times for phone calls are not typically too long.

Cons

Occasionally the app crashes. Also, it requires that you assign each employee to directly report to someone else, which doesn't always make sense in a company structured like ours.

A lot of Bang for Our Bucks

Overall, our experience with BambooHR has been extremely positive. Our employees have raved over how much more efficient and streamlined our HR processes are. Customer Support, if needed, is super responsive and satisfactory resolutions/answers are provided quickly.

Pros

There are so many positive things I can say about this software that I am not sure I even know where to begin. Implementation was a breeze, the look and feel of Bamboo is clean and intuitive, and there are so many options for an organization to really make it their own through branding and customization. Additionally, I am a huge fan of the amount of administrative control I have within the system. For me, this was a huge selling point.

Cons

Nothing is perfect. Not even Bamboo. Although they have made great strides in enhancing some of their features, they're still not as robust as some other systems in some areas. However, as an administrator and an end-user, I do appreciate how they listen to feedback from their customers and it shows in their efforts to continuously improve their product. The only "con" that would make me reevaluate our relationship with Bamboo would be a drastic price increase without any new features to justify it.

Bamboo HR, a slick but severely limited recruiting software

As stated, the BHR system is a recruiters dream and makes the talent acquisition process easier for those businesses that are only using the job boards to get applicants. Just don't expect much more after that.

Pros

The look an feel of BambooHR (BHR) is amazing! Its almost like Facebook for recruiting. It is very intuitive for what it does and offers to the administrator and end user. The applicant tracking system is very easy to use and goes the extra mile with automation and thoughtfulness concerning on-boarding and then " flowing" into the core HRIS. The BHR system was chosen by a previous HR professional that clearly had a recruiting bias. Although important, more vetting should have been done to make a sound choice for long term success regarding the needs of a small to mid-size business.

Cons

Beyond what I described above there is limited functionality without also purchasing and integrating other systems through a "bolt-on" approach. By "Bolt-on" I mean that BHR will not automate between the core HR system of BHR and a timekeeping system, a payroll system, benefits administration system, leave administration system. The ability to have a robust system is possible but is not practical or cost effective with BambooHR. In order to get a full platform, covering the full life cycle of and employee, through BHR, a business would have to pay upwards of 30-40 dollars per employee per month. Simply put other options are available and far more robust with better long term results for less money- See my review of APS Payroll for an example.

BambooHR is simple and user friendly but not built for large companies.

BambooHR software and management system is not the cheapest option out there but you get what you pay for. Well-organized, visually appealing tools that are simple to set up and run. This solution has an open API that allows the software to be integrated with a company's existing HR tech vendors, and the performance review function fits with the way more companies are working. I would suggest this product to small to medium companies.

Pros

BambooHr has allowed our management team to be on the same page with employee Management. Our managers are able to access our Bamboo account from anywhere, allowing them to keep updated on their team. This product also allows employees to enter & update their own personal information reducing user error. This software reporting has several automated functions for manual reports that my company generates for the corporate office. We continue to automate more processes with the help of the Bamboo development team. The onboarding and offboarding processes are streamlined and offer electronic onboarding, task assignments, and e-signature documents. Bamboo HR is able to support every aspect of employee administration and HR management.

Cons

The biggest complaint I have with BambooHr is their customer service and support team. While the team was really hands-on with us for implementation, the support has since left us to figure out our problems with the software ourselves and basically just sends us links to tutorials. The tutorials are ok but we usually end up having even more specific questions after watching them. It would be nice to see them be more hands-on after implementation.

Our First HRIS

The organization had never had an HR department prior to my hire in September 2019; they were also 100% paper. Since using BHR we have been able to post simultaneously to our website and the partner website which increases our candidate pipeline and exposure. In addition, our onboarding functions have been transitioned to BHR which eliminates the emails and possible security breaches.

Pros

The ease of use; including the set-up and implementation. Also the Headcount report, invoice tracking, SparkHire and Employee Cycle Dashboards integrations and cost-efficiency were huge wins for my organization.

Cons

I would like to have a report which provides data on all of our open and on-hold vacancies. To accompany that I would also like to see a form or feature which is a position request for new or replacement roles. I'm currently using a form but to have everything housed in BHR would be much easier for HR and the hiring managers. This would also incentivize them to use the system more frequently.

BambooHR gave HR matters a visible one stop home base for our team. It has also made it easy for diferent user types to get/view what they need (and what is appropriate) with the custom permissions. Our team members like (and don't avoid) accessing the system because it's so easy and pleasant to use!

Pros

Onboarding, employee database, time off tracking, performance management, reporting, customization, friendly and functional user interface. Users like using it!

Cons

Hard to say really - it's a pretty great system. The benefits section doesn't seem to be set up to be useful for our kind of benefits program (typical health and dental plan in Canada). I'm still exploring some functions...for example, we haven't really put their ATS to the test yet as it seems a bit basic vs. our current system but I want to give it a try since BambooHR has a way of delivering the...

Pros

The software is secure, easy to use, and supports the functions of a small business without the corporate challenges of working with a larger HR services and payroll firm. The price is right, the support team is responsive, timely and professional. We were able to customize our instance of the software to the business needs.

Cons

The software is evolving and grows to meet client needs. When we began using this in 2016, there were areas which we needed that came online and now we use fully.

Where do I even begin? All other HR systems out there should take note: BambooHR is how you do HR. My company was in need of software that dramatically cut down our paper usage, particularly for the onboarding process. The paperwork folder that I'd hand each new hire on their first day, was far too much and too overwhelming. With BambooHR, we are now able to have that onboarding process be completely...

There are, in all honestly, absolutely no cons to this software. It'll fit into any company's budget, and I promise, your employees will enjoy it just as much as your HR team does.

Best HR Software around!

TIME!! I have so much more time!

Pros

Bamboo really strives to make their product easy to use. Their help section is filled with many different how to articles with picture and most often a video tutorial. I really like to 30/30 product updates they do, every 30 day they send out a video showing the new updates to the software for the last 30 days and what they are going to be working on for the next 30! This is constantly showing me all...

Cons

At the beginning it was a little difficult to get all of our custom tables set up and functioning the way we wanted but I think that was just some misunderstanding on my part, just not being a programmer! Bamboo has amazing customer service so they were happy to help make any changes we needed and made sure we were happy with everything at the end! For the software being as amazing as it is and the fact that Bamboo is always improving I don't know if I would even necessarily call it a con but the price is a little high. For our needs the benefits Bamboo offer are defiantly worth the cost!

Great software, expensive.

Overall I have had a really great experience. So much so that we kept BBHR even though our payroll company has an HR database included. But BBHR is super simple and clean. We wanted to switch to BBHR payroll, but it isn't powerful enough to run payroll the way we need to run it. Then, I was on the old plan from their early days and they just eliminated it and are automatically moving us to the current plan, which will be about double what we pay now. So, we are exiting the software and will work with our payroll company HR software that is not as pretty, but will save me more than $1,000 a month. I'm definitely bummed they are pushing us into a more expensive plan. For how we use it, it just doesn't make sense to keep it.

Pros

The simplicity and beauty of the design. It is not encumbered with lots of deep menus and convoluted ways to find what you need. So clean and intuitive. That's my favorite feature of BBHR.

Cons

The price is unreasonable and the storage allotment is simply ridiculous. We don't need the full blown features of the software, yet we have to pay a lot of money to have just the basic, simple features that we use. I wish they had a lower plan that allowed access to the database features. Also, the storage is a thorn in my side with BBHR. They charge a ridiculous amount for additional storage and...

Our HRM team loves this

HR tools in one place covering all HR functions and the entire employee lifecycle from applicant tracking, hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, clearance, movements, resignation, retirement... all in! The reporting tool is powerful enough, just make sure to have everything you need planned and mapped out so you can have it all set up by the vendor right from the bat. :)

Pros

Cloud-based HR software is less hassle to maintain for the internal IT team, and easy to manage for the HRM staff. It is full-featured, at least more than what we needed to manage the entire lifecycle of an employee (hiring, performance, records, training, timekeeping, movements, resignation, retirement, etc). The tracking is easy and intuitive (e.g., how many leaves left/used, timekeeping record). The home/dashboard is attractive and easy to navigate. The digital HR 201 files are well kept in one secure place. BambooHR is flexible and extensible to keep all the needed information for each employee.

Cons

Updates to the software come in too pricey. The ability to add/remove custom fields and reports have to go through their customer support/channel. Therefore, make sure that you have everything already mapped out during your project planning and implementation for your company (to minimize change requests and additional cost).

Excellent choice for SMB's

Needed an affordable HR system that could do everything we needed it to. For the most part it does, but we have to use ADP for our Payroll to satisfy that aspect of our business, including our time keeping and vacation. We use a different Applicant Tracking System for recruiting and hiring, but everything else goes through BambooHR.

Pros

The user interface is perfectly logical and easy to navigate. Very simple format with ability to handle complex scenarios.

Cons

The time keeping and payroll features are bolt ons. It would be nice to have fully integrated, inhouse designed and operated options for a 100% complete all-in-one system.

Excellent value for the money and a great all-in-one system

From first meetings to today, our experience with BambooHR has been top notch. They respond quickly to our questions and resolve issues within their current system as best they can. If there is an issue that is not a function of the current system they take that feedback and make changes when they are able. I feel like they always listen to my concerns in this regard. I love that I can use the chat feature to ask questions, as well as call or email.

Pros

I love that my staff has one place that they can log in to take care of their time clock, paid time off, payroll, tax deduction choices, benefits, and much more!

Cons

While the integration with TraxPayroll has been great, I do with that there was a way that we could have multiple pay rates for one employee.

We love it. It absolutely meets the needs of small to medium businesses with great value for your dollars.

Pros

The look and feel of the software. Great organization charts with clear view to all people in the company with employee pictures, (which are extremely helpful for new staff). Simple to navigate, easy to integrate and great for recruiting and onboarding. Ability to customize.

Cons

Limitations in undoing transactions made in error when booking time off. Limited and light reporting and analytics Staff have the ability to book time off even when no time off is available

A Great Way to Introduce an HRMS to Your Company

Overall, BambooHR is a great product. While adoption by others has been slow, the feedback has been very positive. BambooHR has made my job much easier.

Pros

This product is very easy to use and for the things that might be a little tricky, BambooHR has great Customer Service. As a cloud-based system, it's great to be able to access the data from anywhere. It's mobile-optimized which makes it easy to look up information when I'm away from the office. There are also quite a few features included in the base price compared to other products that are sold as individual modules that don't necessarily work together all that well and everything is included (except performance management which is the only add-on). BambooHR is also constantly updating and making changes suggested by their users to make the product even better. BambooHR is also a very elegant solution. If you can shop or bank online, you can use BambooHR.

Cons

The reporting function for Training is a bit cumbersome and could use some improvement. Also, any time you go in to select a field (whether creating a report or power editing), it's often difficult to see the entire item name which can make selecting the correct field a bit of a challenge at times. The other con that I hear from my co-workers is the limited functionality of the mobile app. Perhaps adding a link to the full site from the app (and logging you in at the same time) would be helpful.

Great overall product, but missing more complex layers that are needed

Overall, this is exceeding the need that we have and we will continue to use BambooHR and lean on it's features for our employees for their entire lifecycle.

Pros

For the price, this product has much to offer for a variety of areas of HR. The user interface is elegant and simple to use and understand. The customer support team is extremely responsive and supportive, even if the product can't do what I am asking.

Cons

Features, such as performance management, is overly simplified and could use a bit more to flesh it out a bit. The payroll system, which they acquired, isn't nearly as elegant, but is functional. The implementation process, while overall great, presented some challenges related to the first payroll run and the setup of benefits.

BambooHR has far exceeded our expectations

It's been a great experience for me and all of our employees. It's the only piece of software that has had 0% complaints by our intelligent, highly critical, tech savvy workforce. BambooHR is constantly upgrading and adapting to changing conditions. We launched 2 weeks after purchasing the software with no experience and were able to quickly upload and integrate years of desparate records from different systems for our 40 person company thanks to the hands on help of our onboarding coordinator.

Pros

BambooHR is easy to use and provides a full-featured, tech savvy, platform, that our employees love. It's very cost-effective and they're adding new features to the cloud-based platform every month. Also, the mobile apps are very appreciated by our employees. They can record sick days, request vacation days, update their information, etc. from the convenience of their mobile device.

Cons

Previously the product support / help section was on ZenDesk platform. Signing on was a challenge and the Safari browser wasn't supported in a secure way thus requiring me to switch to a Chrome browser to access content and training. Thankfully, my negative is now a positive and they've upgraded to a new platform and added new interactive product training courses and tracks.

Simple, easy-to-implement, effective solution for small-to-midsize companies

The implementation of BambooHR is done very easily in a do-it-yourself mode, with the assistance of well-designed tutorials and the very responsive support team of BambooHR. It took 3 weeks, dedicating a few hours each week, to get BambooHR up and running for personnel administration and performance management. BambooHR takes care of several things including sending reminders for employee satisfaction surveys, peer feedback, or performance assessments. Working with BambooHR is easy, even for employees who use the system only occasionally.

Cons

BambooHR is a feature-rich, yet simple software that offers limited customization. If you have requirements that are not contemplated by BambooHR, you will struggle to find appropriate support from this software. However, for small-to-mid-size companies, you should perhaps think of whether your requirements do really add value to your company and must be implemented, or whether you could simply adapt your processes to what BambooHR offers as a standard solution.

The customer support is flawless, they practice what they preach. The product works exactly as delivered. Easy to use and great product support.

Cons

There have been no cons to the software. If i had one thing to say, I would like to an alternate platform to generate the monthly cost or a more transparent discount program based on headcount.

BambooHR is a simple to use product!

We have a small HR team and we used to do a lot of manual processes. BambooHR has allowed our HR team to focus on value-add work and leaving some of the administrative functions to BambooHR. Our ability to recruit applicants has increased because we spend less time on manual processes. TimeOff has also been easy to use. We love the HR metrics that come from the system, making our quarterly HR report to our Board easy to narrate because the metrics are generated automatically.

Pros

The recruitment module (applicant tracking, candidate management, etc.) cut down on our work tremendously. Allowed us to recruit faster and reduce the amount of time for review of applicants.

Cons

We've introduced the modules gradually as we needed them. Made a HUGE difference in our ability to allow for change management. Have not come across anything we don't like yet. It's a great product.

Great solution at a low cost

Love BambooHR and will always recommend it.

Pros

A lot of time has been saved for time off approvals and tracking using their tool. The calendar was an added bonus. It has reduced the amount of manual worked that was previously required. Hiring new staff is great with their digital signatures and onboarding features. New staff are quickly able to get through all the paperwork using Bamboo HR and do some pre-training tasks so they are set up for success.

Cons

-timesheets - missing the ability for employees to go back and make any edit requests to their timesheets. -Applicant tracking - wish there was a way to weight/score applicants based on their responses to questions, so that unqualified applicants are automatically filtered out.

Perfect HR tool -helps keep things simple , efficient and clutter-free

As a growing start up we were looking for a good tool for easy maintenance of the company database and something that would help manage the leaves effectively, but Bamboo has helped us greatly in the Onboarding ( especially in the current remote work scenario ) and also to manage our hiring / recruitment database effectively . We have all the JDs and resumes in one place and easy templates to write to candidates. Have recently signed up for the Performance management add-on and look forward to using it effectively

Pros

The simplicity and clutter-free look makes me want to use the tool everyday ! Great UX :)

Cons

Wish there could be a better way to raise small expense claims by employees with attached/ scannable invoices. Find the performance management add-on a bit expensive as we find it difficult to justify the cost to senior management . Also , we work with teams in India and found that Bamboo didn’t integrate with many payroll systems used by banks there. Would be good to have our payrolls automated and all in one place.
