Pros

I liked how good the UX was, I loved the ease of marking exams and writing reviews to students.

Faculty and students alike can get what they need to be successful. Tech support is wonderful.

CD

Candace D.

This software help me to back on studying and they has good time management that fit on my availability.

EE

Enrico E.

Pros

Canvas has a great overview page and is nice that all of your materials are in one place. I appreciated that it was the main form of communication, document location & even some quizzes and tests.

ML

Maria L.

The Graphical user interface is pretty good and visually appealing and the color-coded course help differentiate it from other courses. Timely updates to the participating courses are also helpful.

JC

Jeremiah C.

The overall experience during my last two years of undergraduate school was very pleasant and I sincerely hope that I encountered this software again in graduate school.

Miguel R.

Cons

I find it difficult to navigate sometimes, as the user interface is confusing.

Christine G.

Only complaint is to incorporate email into the software.

LI

Linda I.

This made it difficult to switch back and forth while taking a quiz. Also sometimes there is a delay in updating when a task has been completed so I had to refresh the page a few times.

MD

Melanie D.

Cons

Nothing is intuitive, it's extremely hard to change or fix a mistake on an assignment if you make a mistake, grade syncing with our electronic gradebook is very glitchy.

LD

Lorri D.

The parent canvas app is confusing and difficult to navigate. It is hard to discern what assignments are due to strange naming structures.

EB

Esther B.

As a parent, it was difficult to understand where some items were but I feel that was user error and not the platform.

Learning plateform

Reviewed a year ago

I have postive experience. However, It would be great if they update all features.

Pros

It was as similar as canvas but some features has more applicable here than the other platform. I used it when I work at UW-Whitewater.

Cons

It's not convenient as canvas is. If they add more features and easy to use for users, it would be great.

Much like Canvas, not as user-intuitive as others

Reviewed 2 years ago

This platform is one of the platforms I use on a regular basis for non face-to-face classes. I have found that training new users is crucial.

Pros

I like that setting up classes, shells, and assignments with this software is extremely easy and that it mimics Canvas to a degree, offering prior knowledge to many when using this platform.

Cons

I haven't found this software as easy for end-users to use as others in learning management. I have had students complain about not being able to find courses, old courses staying within their menus when completed, etc., and just not knowing how to start. With this software, I have had to provide more training to students and teams as where to find materials and how to manage it than with others.

Good LMS but not all-encompassing

Reviewed 3 years ago

Brightspace by D2L was useful for implementing a live course's online material, but the program lacks important components that are necessary for online courses.

Pros

This Learning Management System is GOOD but not the best. It is great that D2L and Brightspace have an easy-to-use portal that differentiates between student, instructor, and even TAs. However, the options that come with competitors like CANVAS are far superior...

Cons

CANVAS, a competing LMS, provides more external resource use, such as Virtual Office Hours during Conferences, and even grouping students into smaller groups to use MS Office through Collaborations. Brightspace is user friendly for students but more difficult to manage for administrators/teachers.

Brightspace is a bright choice

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, Brightspace is great and functional. I love it compared to all the other platforms that I am engaged with. I find this to be very easy and organic feeling, but I do run into minor issues here and there. I was obligated to use this software from my institution that I work at, but if given the choice, I'd select this product. I also have worked with many blog-based websites and this feels more similar to the tools in building a Wordpress or on Blogger. If you are familiar with platforms like that, this should feel very native.

Pros

I've used a lot of similar products for educational reasons like Sakai, Blackboard, WebCT, Canvas and so on and one of the pros for me that Brightspace offers is that it's very clean looking compared to some of the above. I personally find it very organic and easy to use, but I've also been using similar programs since college. Still, I feel like the tutorials on Brightspacde and the layout of it...

Cons

There's very few items I dislike, and they may just reflect me and my colleagues. Some of the cons are as follows: I have a lot of issues with the grade book that comes with this software. This seems to be an issue I share with my colleagues as well. Some of the grade book issues range from students not being able to view grades, even after I make them visible to them and the site showing a percentage...

The Best LMS I've Used

Reviewed 3 years ago

The school I work with recently implemented Canvas and this is the first term I've used it for a marketing class that I teach. I have been absolutely thrilled with its ease of use. Creating my course curriculum with Canvas' drag-and-drop interface has been so much easier than prior LMS platforms I've used and I absolutely love the audio comment feature for giving my students high-touch feedback on their lessons.

Pros

I LOVE the drag-and-drop editor for building out my modules and curriculum. I love the audio comment feature for giving my students feedback on their lessons so much! I really love the simple-to-use Arc feature for uploading my course videos. I LOVE the insights area where I can see the metrics for my course. I love the beautiful, clean, simple inbox for communicating with my students. I love the clean, well-designed interface. It has a beautiful, modern look and feel and is better than any of the handful of LMS platforms I've used in the past.

Cons

I would say that the forum feature isn't quite as robust/intuitive as the Brightspace platform that I've used. However, I was not the one to set up Brightspace in the school that I used it with, so it might have been similar or worse in terms of set up to get it to the interface that I'm familiar with!

CANVAS

The best LMS I've used so far (much better than Brightspace/D2L)

Reviewed 5 months ago

Overall, Canvas is the best I've used so far (1000x better than buggy/feature-impoverished D2L). It's generally nice to work with, plays well with most other online resources (especially Google Drive which I use a ton for teaching), it's fairly easy to explain to students, and it makes it easy to transfer materials between courses each semester.

Pros

One thing I love is that unlike Brightspace/D2L, Canvas has continued to develop and gain new features as long as I've used it. I also like how easy it is to transfer course materials from one course to another so that classes I teach each semester, or every other semester, can be easily copied over.

Cons

Some of the more advanced/useful features aren't always easy to use, and there isn't great documentation from Canvas. In fact, most of the documentation I've found has been from other university's websites.
