Brightspace

Previously I have used Blackboard, Moodle, Desire2Learn, and Brightspace, and find Brightspace serves my needs.

Pros

The Brightspace has excellent resources for learning to navigate the system. The tutorials are very useful.

Cons

It has many updates throughout the year.

If I were in the market for a new LMS I would consider Moodle hands down.

Pros

Good features and functionality. Easy to navigate. Not all products are bundled together in the base learning platform.

Cons

Reporting and integration needs improvement. Implementation takes longer that other LMS. Annual licensing fees are very high. Many changes to Customer assigned resources. Currently, API calls to production Database is unavailable.

Course Building and Grading with D2L

2019-03-17

Overall, D2L Brightspace is relatively easy to use and robust. It's not always intuitive, but that seems to be the case with all LMS I've used.

Pros

I use D2L, Moodle, and Blackboard in my multiple jobs.

Cons

When grading, I wish the rubrics appeared in the margin of same tab as the assignment, rather than a separate pop-up window, though this is already an improvement from earlier iterations.

D2L Brightspace

2015-03-18

Pros

I like that there are different tabs to maneuver throughout a course. You can very easily go from entering grades, to creating a new module, to entering attendance; it's very user-friendly.

Cons

I currently also work with Moodle, from a student perspective, through my own schooling.

Recommendations to others considering Brightspace

I think in order to give an honest recommendation a person would need to have experience with another platform. You don't really know what you don't like, or don't have until you see it somewhere else. On the contrary, you also cannot really evaluate what you like better about a particular platform until you have seen it another way.

Cost-effective LMS for strong digital team

2019-01-28

Solid LMS option for online learning.

Pros

Online LMS without the hefty price tag. Moderately recognizable name in the academic industry. Good customization options once UI is streamlined for instructors.

Cons

Not as turnkey as Blackboard, Brightspace, and other options.
