Pros

First of all a really great UI. Very simple and beautiful dashboard.
Easy to set up-The remediation workflow helps to quickly resolve findings and makes it easy to include developers in the process.
It has been great I trust it and the securities of my repos.

Pros

Malwarebytes is seamless to integrate, extremely affordable, and protects our systems better than more expensive options.
It is very easy to use and there is a wealth of information on the internet to help with any new threats. This is my top recommendation for any essential software on computers and tablets.
Malwarebytes offered a stable, reliable and affordable solution for us while we used it. We ultimately moved away from it to Sophos.

Cons

No support for integrating with ADO, which is frustrating because we've had to purchase another tool for this.
I have pushed almost for 7-8 times. Now days i do that mistake rarely but in earlier days I was struggle with this issue.
The UI is a little tricky to navigate because there's so much information presented. For example, it's hard for me to figure out how to exclude certain repos from their scans.

Cons

The critical issue for me is if the do the job without being annoying. Some of them seem to bring up warning windows so often that I get tired of them.
When at a user's computer, we are unable to view logs while at that computer and instead have to go login to the UI at the IT desk to view those logs which is inconvenient.
Lack of a feature to inspect emails and there is no option for a quick scan.

GitGuardian

Fit to purpose to our needs / Very little I need to admin

Reviewed 2 years ago

GitGuardian is now actively included in our core CI/CD pipeline. Setup was very easy and, and the time I need now to admin it is close to zero. After the initial adoption, "avoiding secrets in first instance" is now part of our standard practice. I would say GitGuardian is now our insurance that secrets are not disclosed inadvertently.

Pros

Easy to install. I mean, very easy! I have followed the "Quick-Start" guide, it took me about 30 mins. and when I read "Start Remediating" I thought it was the time to figure out how to adapt to our own environment and I have spent a couple of hours to set-up a manual/parallel integration that was totally unnecessary. I like the remediation flow: no emails back and forth, it simplifies the communication and the resolution of incidents across users. I can easily narrow the scope to what is critical to us, this has reduced the remediation effort to specific and relevant incidents. Automatic notifications: as an admin, I do not need to investigate every and each incident. GitHub Integration: secrets within code are automaticall detected and merge is blocked.

Cons

So many ways to integrate, it might be a plus for others, it was confusing to me. in my case I was not clear if I needed a "VCS/GitHub" or "CI/CD GitHub Actions" integration. Pricing plan for small business is not fully clear and requires to "contact sales".

A+ for GitGuardian

Reviewed 2 years ago

Very happy customer of GitGuardian and use their scans to inform how we manage secrets.

Pros

Love that the product makes it so easy to identify when secrets have been checked into the code! Coupled with the low price point, this is a HUGE win for our team + code base.

Cons

The UI is a little tricky to navigate because there's so much information presented. For example, it's hard for me to figure out how to exclude certain repos from their scans.

First impression of working with GitGuardian

Reviewed a year ago

My overall experience with GitGuardian has been very positive. I've used their platform to scan my repositories for secrets and vulnerabilities, personally, I had no problem setting it up the first time. GitGuardian has helped me improve my security practices and protect my code from unauthorized access.

Pros

I enjoyed using GitGuardian. It helped me protect my code from leaking sensitive data and secrets. This product is perfect for small businesses with up to 25 people and for individual use. The features that I found most helpful were the automatic scanning of commits and the alerts for potential breaches. The product was very easy to use and integrated well with my GitHub account and workflow. I would recommend GitGuardian to anyone who wants to secure their code and prevent data leaks.

Cons

As for the missing features, I think more detailed management of which repositories and files are tracked would be helpful.

GitGuardian Repository Scanning: An Essential Tool

Reviewed 2 years ago

Our primary goal is to ensure secrets aren't accidentally exposed in our repositories, and it's the perfect tool for that!

Pros

Cons

The "free" Team pricing requires a manual support process, but it's not that big of a deal.

Feel confident that your developers arn't commiting secrets.

Reviewed 3 years ago

Very positive, I feel more confident now that secrets wont be in git long if they are committed at all. I can trust if I haven't gotten an alert that there are no secrets.

Pros

I like the timely notifications when there is an alert, and the triage for dealing with them are quick and easily understood by users.

Cons

Integration with github more to create issues and pull requests to remove secrets would be nice.

Gitguardian for Institure

Reviewed 16 days ago

as said in the pros, guardian has been good for us in saving tokens and encryption tokens. we actually have an attendance portal. where we put up decryption codes on front end and this was secured using gitguardian. Apart from that, it also protected the token at backend.

Pros

It has helped us in saving tokens and encryption tokens from becoming vulnerable. This has allowed us to get good cybersecurity. it was easy to use because of integration with Git Hub. we have been using it for 6 months and it has saved us quite some time

Cons

Everything has been good except the payment plan, apart from that everything else has been smooth for us. The integration has been easy as it part of GitHub but the payment part has been quite expensive

GitGuardian review

GitGuardian emerges as a highly effective tool when it comes to identifying potential password leaks within GitHub commits. Its proficiency in this regard has proven invaluable, as it has brought to my attention several errors in my commits that I might not have noticed otherwise. By doing so, GitGuardian has played a pivotal role in preventing potentially severe security breaches.

Pros

Pretty efficient in detecting possible password leaks on GitHub commits. If it wasn't for GitGuardian's notification, I would not have realized several mistakes I've commited, and it could have led to a severe security breachs.

Cons

So far I haven't faced any problems that would fit in "dislike" about GitGuardian.

GitGuardian integrates in a snap!

Reviewed 3 years ago

We are using GitGuardian to prevent secrets from leaking into repositories both public and private. So far our experience has been excellent. We actually leaked a private SSH key and got a notification from GitGuardian almost immediately. We were able to revoke the key and remediate the blunder.

Pros

Integration was a snap. We're already using pre-commit for most of our repos so hooking GitGuardian into the process was simple. Since we also already use GitHub, we found integration to be extremely easy.

Cons

We had no issues integrating GitGuardian and have not found any cons, yet.

Vendor response

Thank you for sharing your experience Torgny! It's great to see teams lay great store by Shift Left and use GitGuardian at the pre-commit level.
