A must have Repo management for any developer

09/12/2016

Our team would be lost without Github, from managing current projects, and creating separate code bases and managing deployments to searching current code from other developers. A valuable resource for any developer. The Github community has evolved on its own, with other coders always willing to help

Pros

An invaluable resource for any developer, couldn't work without it.

Cons

no private repos for the free version, unlike BitBucket

Best code sharing repo in the market!

05/12/2016

They could definitely work on the pricing and Bitbucket could be a cheaper alternative but it's not as verified as Github.

Hands down, the best online Git repo management website

05/12/2016

Github is the best website out there for open source projects. Bitbucket is good too, but Github is just amazing.

Hear the Octocat Roar

05/01/2017

I particularly love comparing the Github feature-set and straight-up rip-off artist that is Atlassian's Bitbucket. While BB too has morphed into a solid platform, it is clear that any success it enjoys is due to riding the Octocat's furry coat-tails into the binary sunset.

Pros

Constant feature improvements.

Cons

The big fat, script-kiddie target it wears on its forehead.

not the best of the solutions out there, but tolerable

11/09/2015

It's a generally OK implementation and covers most of what is out there. GitHub is definitely more up-to-date in terms of functionality and has a much better interface; however, Bitbucket comes with much better support as Atlassian is extremely good in that arena of their business.

Pros

- Simple - Gets the job done

Cons

- Not as up-to-date as GitHub - Interface leaves a lot to be desired

frogdog.io loves bitbucket

30/11/2016

I started using BitBucket when I stopped being a hobbyist using GitHub and started a Digital Agency.

Pros

Git and Mercurial Support. Issue Tracker is great for client collaboration. Repository WIKIs

Cons

There is no way to automatically deploy your code in the free tier plan.

Perfect alternative to Github

05/01/2017

Everyone may be jumping on the Github bandwagon, but we're addicted to Bitbucket.

Pros

Simple, easy to use, and good price

Cons

Since it's been purchased by Atlassian, they seem to be trying to add more features that are corporate oriented. Not really a "con" per-say, but they are adding more features that I don't really need.

I trust these guys a lot more than Github, ever since Github had the security breach a while ago that allowed anyone to download any private repo, I won't put anything sensitive there. Bitbucket is the way to go!

Free Git private repositories for academic users.

13/02/2017

Have you ever heard of GitHub? If not, you probably won't feel comfortable getting this to work.

Pros

(for academic users) free, unlimited users and private repositories

Cons

Not easy to get into unless you're tech savvy, but this is more the nature of repositories in general, and not BitBucket itself.

everything you need, nothing you don't

10/01/2017

when we were selecting a source control system for our startup we narrowed the short list down to three options: github, TFS for git and bitbucket.

Pros

Its simple and reliable. we use git from the command line so we don't often use the web user interface, but when we do, its not a chore to figure out what we need to do in order to accomplish the task at hand. As a software development manager, I also appreciate how easy it is to manage access to repos for my teams.

Cons

viewing large number of branches could be a better experience.

A good solution for private repositories

19/01/2017

It does not seem that Bitbucket is able to host public documentation on a per-project level either, at least not as easily as GitHub Pages.

Very useful and powerful

03/03/2016

It is a very comprehensive tool, also offers a lot of integrated tools, like bugs control, a nice dashboard where you can see your projects and teams. Also, the best characteristic of Bitbucket, is that it let have private repositories without paid for them.

Pros

BitBucket is an awesome product that is a much more affordable alternative to GitHub. I like that they offer a gracious freemium model.

Cons

The initial setup of BitBucket on your desktop can sometime be a bit of a pain. It took me a little while to configure my first one and the documentation for setting it up on a mac was semi-buried. I've also run into load issues from time to tim on their site, I'll spend a few minutes waiting for my dashboard to full load. I occasionally run into time out issues while pushing or pull. However those issues have been less frequent lately.
