It gave me and my student team valuable insights regarding who had been contributing with what and when those contributions were made. I saw there were a lot of other analytics features which I did not check out.
GitLab seems to be the better choice if you want all the complex features such as better permission control etc.
GitHub, to me, seems simpler due to its integration with other tools makes it easier to use, especially for those not (yet) fluent in Unix.

Overall, Gitlab is the best tool for source management. It's very simple configuration and easy to use for user.
- Easy to use and configuration- Easily manage task and source code- Integrate with any third party tools- Good UI- allow to create multiple repo- Very easy to push and pull source code from cmd line- Easily track issue
- License version price is high I don't find any cons in Gitlab
