Pros
Its been very useful to me in the past couple of years. Its very easy to use and I would definitely recommend MySQL to any newcomer for its ease of use and intuitive workflow.
I also believe that it is a powerful tool with great performance with several operating systems and helps to effectively carry out audits within each level of the structure.
The console clearly shows query and results at the same time which is very helpful. Plus the 'help' feature is very helpful unlike other softwares.
Cons
Mendix is a licensed system which make it inaccessible for smaller budgets. Some versions contain annoying bugs.

Cons
Lack of ducumentation is a problem where it would lead to googeling. The most often complaint is that there is a proformance degration with large data sets.
Because of this, you can lose a lot of information if a transaction suddenly fails. Information in this case is lost from the entire chain of requests.
When mysql files get badly corrupt it is sometimes quite difficult to recover - the best tools to use are those included with the mysql distribution, mysql_check_isam and so on.
