What is Rport?

RPort is fast, secure, easy, and free remote management for any device. It enables users to log in to any system from anywhere even to those that have only private IP addresses and are behind a router or firewall protected. RPort allows users to quickly execute commands on an individual server or a bunch of servers without logging in.

The platform comes with a user-friendly intuitive web-based UI, which can be managed with the command line utility or by raw API calls. It comes as a client-server application, which runs constantly on the remote machines. This allows administrators to always have an overview of inventory and to log-in even to those systems that constantly change IP addresses or locations. RPort is suitable for any operating system such as Linux, Windows, Mac, or proprietary embedded systems. It is compatible with desktop and server operating systems. It fully supports graphical desktops of Windows, Mac, and Linux and so-called headless servers without a graphical interface typically Linux servers. RPort is ideal to manage IoT devices or appliances that are configured via a web interface only.

All communication is AES encrypted on the application level, making the communication immune against DNS-based man-in-the-middle attacks.

RPort doesn’t store nor is able to intercept log-in credentials and uses HTTP only for communication. RPort uses well-known, widely trusted and standardized mechanisms for log-in and authentication, like remote desktop, SSH, VNC, HTTP, and HTTPS. Unlike many others, RPort does not implement its own log-in mechanism bypassing the operating systems’ security and logging measures. RPort is suitable for desktop computer assistance but the operator gets its own session. It does not implement its own screen capturing protocol and is not for spontaneous ad-hoc support where the remote access client is launched only during the help session.

Benefits of using Rport

RPort is an all-in-one remote management suite. It manages Windows, Linux, desktops and servers, and any IoT device from one central console.

Claim full control over your remote management - without sharing your credentials with external companies.

Feels like TeamViewer without the black-box software.

Open-source, self-hosted and free.

RPort can execute commands on remote machines. On a single server or on a host group. Sequentially or in parallel.

The client is lightweight and available for almost any operating system. Windows, Linux, and many embedded systems are supported. Any client can act as edge-device building bridges to other devices.

The server doesn’t require a lot of resources. Any small cloud VM is suitable to handle hundreds of connected clients.
