Pros

Our evaluators are also happy with product's ability to be so user friendly. Their customer service is phenomenal, fast, friendly and useful.
We really like to use smarter select, its very easy to maneuver for all stakeholders involved in our process. There is always room for growth but overall we are able to accomplish what we need.
What I like most about Smarter Select is its ease of use. As someone with minimal experience using this type of programming, I found it pretty user friendly.

Pros

The service we have received has been top notch, efficient and effective. We are very pleased with Electronic Form Solutions for both their customer service and software.
Fantastic, the support team is super responsive, the cost was affordable, and the product is tailored to my needs.
With the Electronic Forms Solution in place, we're able to effectively and quickly assess and award scholarships with ease.

Cons

My only slight criticism would be that the evaluator questions can only be placed mid-application, not in their own separate form.
Whenever I have an issue with the platform, or unsure about the limitations of a feature I find it difficult to contact customer service or a specialist.
I dislike having to receive an email in order to get a report. It's just one more step especially when we are running over 80 reports.

Cons

The no attachment for transcripts is not apparent that the document has been attached. Reference notified or completed section is unclear.
I haven't found anything that has been a bother at this point in time.
However, it can make managing the system more difficult as the application grows larger and the user creates multiple customizations.

Easy to use and good features.

Made my organization go from paper applications to completely electronic. Saved a lot of time and resources.

Pros

The main application design. It's easy, functional and a good value for the money. It's also great for several audiences to use, such as young teenagers and older adults who aren't too comfortable using technology.

Cons

It's hard to get customer service support when issues arise with the application. Too long of a delay.

From scholarship application to chapter evaluation

As our chapter success plan process relies heavily on administrator access, multi-end user access, and evaluator access, SmarterSelect has been a perfect solution for use for this project.

Pros

We have used the system for years as part of our scholarship and fellowship application process. This past year, we introduced a new chapter planning and evaluation tool for our organization. We decided to put this tool in SmarterSelect because of the ease of use by both the administrator and the end-user. The ability to have the end-user save work and come back has been invaluable. Since this is an evaluation tool, the ability to give multiple individuals evaluator access was a key factor in our decision to put this process in SmarterSelect.

Cons

The form builder fuction can be confusing at times.

We use SmarterSelect for the scholarships our honor society provides, both applications & judging.

Previously, scholarships were handled on paper (!!!). You can imagine the savings in time, energy, and resources by going to an electronic system.

Pros

It's great to have everything available in one place! I can also easily "clone" last year's applications to set up this year's applications. Judges have a single sign-in to get to the applications for their review, and it is usually easy for recommenders to follow the link sent and upload their letter of recommentation.

Cons

After awhile, the number of accounts in the system gets overwhelming. I wish there was some way to "archive" non-active users in regard to our account. Recommenders seem to often miss the emails sent to them; it might be helpful to remind applicants to let their recommenders know to expect an email (and to check their spam folder). There are certain aspects of the system that are a bit clunky, non-intuitive, and/or repetitive.

FOr the cost, this product is much more beneficial for our company's needs - while there's a lot more up front work on the employee end, it makes for complete customization

Pros

Completely customizable forms/programs when it comes to questions but not too technologically advanced to make it complicated

Pros

What I most like about the software are the features like the "App Rules", "Calculation" and "Autoscore". When we design and update our applications, these features make evaluation and selection process much easier to verify and lightens our overall workload.

Cons

What I least like about the software is how the form looks rather simplistic compared to other online applications. This is a very minor issue overall as the look and layout of the form is actually very helpful for mobile users.

The customer service has been top-notch! My questions are always answers promptly and thoroughly. If an answer isn't known immediately, the team works to recreate my issue and figure out a solution.

Cons

Sometimes the form building is not the most intuitive - I would love to see that be a little more user friendly.

I have to say that I have no idea how much this costs or who made the decision, but I got the application up and running and overall it was pretty user friendly

Pros

I was able to figure this out pretty quickly. SOmeone quit and no one knew how to set up our scholarship. the Help chat bot was really great. With the help feature, I coule figure out how to use last year's application and update it. I had to change some questions and that was pretty easy.

Cons

It took a while to figure out how to toggle between the questions and the form but actually it was OK

Pros

The ability to have multiple applications live at once. The ease of customizing the applications is nice.

Cons

The reports are hard to read in PDF. Maybe add an option to create variations of the same form. Overall it is great.

It's difficult to figure out for new users but seems like a good software once you get used to it.

Once you figure it out, it's easy enough to use as needed. Customer support was great and very responsive.

Cons

It was not intuitive for me as a new user. The language of the software does not seem very intuitive- a program being like a cover sheet of an application, the form being the actual application but "form" not being listed in a way that makes it seem like it's a part of the editing process.

Making applications so easy!

Pros

Applications are easy to make, and even more easy is setting them up for the next year. The evaluation process is even easier, making it not a chore to setup reviewers and have them rate the applications. One of the better points is the texting features rolled out in the past few years. I can easily notify applicants of their status.

Cons

Having some of the places you have to click to access parts of the form is tedious, but once you know where to go it isn't so bad.

Robust Program - Tricky to Set Up

We use SmarterSelect for online scholarship applications and grant requests. This has greatly reduced the amount of paper we have to use for these processes and allows for easier of sharing with our evaluators.

Pros

We can set up multiple applications for scholarships, grants and other programs. The auto-scoring features are very helpful as are the online references.

Cons

Making changes to an application form or creating a new application can be pretty difficult. I would love to see an "auto-save" feature for editing or creating forms.

I really enjoy the reporting data- who has started, in process, and completed the form. The data points have been very useful. It is also easy to edit and update depending on the need.

Cons

I wish it was easier to open attachments within the portal and/or download multiple attachments versus having to open and view them for every single entry.

Make your scholarship season easier

We have been using SmarterSelect for several years. It has significantly reduced time and paper consumption. Students and parents when asked about the usage of our application are very pleased. Guidance departments are also happy with feedback on our application for local students. We are a Community Foundation with approximately 55 different scholarships. Pros

The sorting, reporting, and exporting make the application grouping to committees very efficient.

Cons

Because of our insistence to use only one application, The app rules on our application become very complex. This is not a mark against SmarterSelect, however it requires more use of SmarterSelect's customer services resources. Wish it would be easier for us to adjust on our own without requesting assistance.

Ease of use Provides the exact services and functions for desired outcomes Autoscoring Can be used for a variety of applications including scholarships, awards and volunteer position applications.

Pros

I like the ease of it' the software is very intuitive and simple to not only set up on the administrative side but also easy to use as the individual who is completing the application form. I also love the ability to auto score evaluations.

Cons

I would like to see the log in reset be a bit more simplified. I have had some issues with resetting my password, which was resolved through customer support, but I wish it was simpler to reset.

Robust yet simple to use, and at an excellent price point

I am the SmarterSelect power-user at my organization and my experience with the tool and customer support have been overwhelmingly positive on the whole, but not without the occasional hiccup. I like how easy it is to get the hang of using the tool, and how responsive support is when something breaks (and this rarely happens). Pros

Easy for even not tech-savvy people to pick up, but with a respectable amount of customization. The look is modern for both the front- and back-end and I appreciate how much thought went into making features on both ends appear and feel as such. Customer support is responsive and have gone through great lengths to identify issues and stress-test solutions, which is again greatly appreciated.

Cons

This has only happened once to my knowledge but when some back-end autoscore stuff broke, the process to identify the problem and fix it took longer than we had hoped, and it really dragged down our evaluator experience. So I would say perhaps the stress-testing is not rigorous enough.

Get Bang for Your Buck

We were looking for a cost effective online software package that would be easy for our users (students applying), evaluators and administrators. This software provides what we were looking for. Once the product was introduced, we have been tweeking it to fit our needs and make it a better user experience for both those applying and those reviewing the applications. SmarterSelect has been very responsive to our needs and worked with us to find solutions to most of our requests for assistance.

Pros

Ease of use and fantastic customer support.

Cons

Some places not flexible enough to provide what we need; and the fact that you cannot get aggregate reporting.

The platform is easy to navigate and very helpful. I do have issues with getting responses from CS.

This has helped our program streamline our application process. It also makes it possible to contact applicants and receive documentation more efficiently. Thank to this program we are able to track metrics and properly evaluate our recruitment and program.

Pros

I love the new features and how easy it is to contact/update applicants. Creating our own blast emails and having the capability to edit pre-formatted ones also helps us with our unique application process.

Cons

Whenever I have an issue with the platform, or unsure about the limitations of a feature I find it difficult to contact customer service or a specialist. The "Submit form" process is not personable and difficult to explain the issues I experience. I would prefer to have an account manager to discuss how to maximize the efficiency of the platform rather than the videos, which are not helpful in our unique process. Also, I would like to have the capability to split the application into phases, and not sure if that is possible with this platform.

Would like more user-friendly and customization!

Pros

I like that it meets the basic needs of our program in terms of letting students apply to our program.

Cons

The user interface feels very slow and clunky. It's not super intuitive. For example, when creating an application form, I assume I can just edit by clicking on what I see, but in order to actually edit a section, I have to click through the sections on the right hand side first, and that doesn't seem very intuitive. I also wish we could create our own statuses that would allow us to do specific autoscoring. For example, one of the things we need to do is make sure that the applicants have submitted the correct attachments. I wish we could check for that in SmarterSelect continuously throughout the application period and not just at the end.
