Safe mode database server allows unwanted deletion due to a mistake. Simple straight forward queries to fetch the data. Integration with SQL workbench
Requires a lot of memory to run the server locally. Need to have opensourse latest versions available.

I've used SQL for years and I'm always impressed at how each next version takes user feedback and rising industry standards in to account.
Other than lacking some UI features in the latest releases (i.e., dark mode) there really isn't anything not to like.

It's been our SQL database for 2 decades, and has always proven to be very reliable
Always-on mode makes this a trully high availability database Encryption-at-rest with per-database encryption keys XML and JSON support Very high performance Distributed availability groups Very reliable Great management app (Enterprise Manager)
Distributed support is still in the early days ans is somewhat lacking

I've managed databases for applications ranging from small static websites to large multi-tenant content management systems. SQL Server is great for both. Best feature is being able to use SQL Command Mode (SQLCMD) for scripts.
When restoring databases, I have occasionally ran into the issue where settings or privileges weren't correctly mapped.

facilitates the creation of solutions to problems with versions, disaster recovery and backup copies. You can transfer databases in a very simple and intuitive way between your local environment and the cloud.
Graphic environment that allows the administration. allows to work in server client mode, where the information and data are hosted on the server and the clients of the network access it. It allows to manage information of other data servers, it supports stored procedures.
Huge amount of RAM that is used for the installation of and use of Software, is somewhat expensive. My version 2005 does not allow the compression of data, which generates a lot of disk space.

My overall experience has been just fine, this is a solid product with Microsoft backing it up. It's the SQL equivalent to a Toyota Camry; you'll get there, and it won't be flashy, but it gets the job done.
Microsoft SQL server is a great tool to use with SQL, I mean it's Microsoft, so it's probably going to be good no matter what, you're also going to know how it's going to be laid out too. It may not be my favorite editor, but it's a solid choice for sure.
This may be a petty complaint but I would love to see an official dark mode added, also updating the overall look to make it feel more "2020" instead of "1990" might be nice too.

2 year and it's going good. I am working as a quality analyst and found it easy to work on SQL.
It's latest updates are major step to give choices of development, data types and cloud by bringing the power to link with Linux and windows. Adaptive query processing with three new improvements adaptive joines, batch mode memory feedback and interleaved execution for multiple statements is a new generation query processing strategy.
Hmmm, Cost! Yes cost I can say is freaking hurdle. One needs to be dependent upon Microsoft for their ecosystems which would be costly again. Need big investment for this and they provide updates in 2 year cycle.

I am using this software from the day 1 of my so far experience. I learned alot just because of its easiness. This is also very flexible for heavy queries and also for optimization the code.
Very easy to use and having almost tools for all user actions which save time and good for novice persons. Its best tool is Sql Profiler which you can't find in other database applications.
Most of the time system hangs when opening the Job's steps detail. This bug is in almost all versions. Also, we can't check the table content in debugging mode of a store procedure, which I alway fancy to must have feature.

I have great experiences with Microsoft SQL Server, it's reliable and fast, as long as you're able to pay for it.
Microsoft SQL Server has a lot of functions and does not miss one feature I need in my RDMS. I think it's great software to be used within companies with big databases.
The software uses a lot of data, doesn't have dark mode support right now and the whole design feels old. The thing I liked the least is the price of the software, it can be very expensive depending on the licensing tier.

It is one of the best database management systems, but it is not for beginners
It has ease of transaction support, in addition to scalability, stability and security, it can include a powerful graphical administration environment, allows working in client-server mode, where information and data are hosted on the server and terminals or clients of the network they only access the information and have a relational database that would allow multidimensional data to be included in the basic database license
It has a large amount of RAM memory for the installation and use of the software, it has a limit of simultaneous connections for the pages and is tied to the platform of the operating system on which it is installed. Also, it is not very good for beginners to practice

sql server is used as the main data base engine for the different administrative management systems, as well as student registration, previously we used another database which did not have the capacity to perform functions such as stored procedures, implementing sql server we could manage other processes directly to the database. we could notice that sql server is the one indicated for local implementations, we have advanced in the maintenance since it is much simpler, the backups are achieved with a few clicks, there is no database engine that has the security that the sql server has.
- The creation of views, stored procedures, creation and modification of bd and tables, is extremely simple. - the administrator of the management studio database is very complete and can perform many processes in design mode - Multiple functions to improve and enrich queries sql. - Works perfect for large data storage. - The management of user permits is very useful, you can assign different roles and roles in the database. - It is very easy and effective to perform both backups and restorations.
- Configuring public access to the network can be quite cumbersome. - Restoring databases between different versions can bring compatibility problems - It is very difficult to get online servers that support sql server. - The support for linux is almost nil.

When developing a project where a large amount of information must be recorded, it is excellent to use a SQL relational database. it allows us to store information in the best way so that the data is not cloned and does not find repetitions of these. Microsoft SQL Server gives us a large number of commands and tools to develop, manipulate, retrieve, create and define data, and can be configured to use multiple instances. includes a friendly graphical environment that allows the use of commands. it allows us to work in client-server mode and supports storage procedures and transactions. can be used to develop complex projects that contain three or more layers without any problem
This software can consume many resources on computers, such as RAM. causing our equipment to freeze. in relation to quality and price, it has a lot of competition compared to other SQL relational database administrators

SQL queries, database lookup, results graphing, BI.
Mode makes it easy to add data from a wide variety of sources, run live queries on that data, and produce detailed graphs and sheets with your results. Its free plan is comprehensive and great for public data collections.
Mode can be limited in its visualizations and sources. If you're looking for more comprehensive BI toolsets, you may want to consider more expensive options. The cons at this price point are essentially zero though.

I started using mode with no knowledge of SQL or R and was able to learn some of the introductory information through DataCamp and online which has allowed me to get much more value out of Mode. The other platform we use is Metabase which is great for our Customer Care team because it does a lot of (if not all) of the heavy lifting for SQL queries. A few standardized queries or templates for queries might give less knowledgeable people the ability to get more value from Mode.
The ability to do queries in both SQL and R programming allow for dynamic data pulls. The ability to schedule reports is also very helpful for the different departments at my company.
There aren't a lot of holes in what Mode provides. I may not be as informed as I need to be but I often run into issue joining one SQL query to another SQL query.

Great if you're proficient with R, Python, and/or HTML. Also great if your metrics are really simple.
Mode is very flexible and has some great features • Easily schedule reports to go out to your customers (something Tableau does not do well) • Make definitions (commonly used sql chunks) that can be used by anyone in the business • Appealing interface • R, Python, and HTML integration • Good organization options • Easy to customize axes of the graphs you make • Very flexible (if you know HTML) • Really helpful chart type called "BigNumber" which displays your KPI in big, bold numbers (oddly hard to do in Tableau)
• Visualization options are harshly limited (if you don't know R/Python/HTML) • Limited GUI when building charts. All variables must be predefined in the sql query • Sql editor is...not good. If I am trying to reference a column name of a specific table, it will show me similar column names from tables ACROSS OUR ENTIRE DATA WAREHOUSE. Nearly impossible to find if you have column names like "ID" or "NAME". I typically have to build my sql query in another editor and then copy/paste.

Mode platform is a nice tool to process / request Data on a daily basis. It would be a must have for Data scientists / analysts producing analysis / reports for executives / BI teams.
I really liked the way you can write & test your own SQL queries. You can also easily request different Datasets coming from different sources (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Hive, Impala, Aurora, Google BigQuery...) via the same SQL queries. Moreover, it's very simple to create charts and diagrams from the data to generate nice presentations / reports. By the way you have a nice integration with Python/R notebooks.
When your are creating / editing reports, you need to have good knowledge of SQL/Data queries. This side of the platform would be reserved to Data scientists / engineers / analysts. But once the reports are created, it's still one of the best tool in the market to communicate / take decisions with executives / managers / BI teams / clients.

For my needs (and my team) it has been very useful to use mode to analyze snapshots of production data to get more insight into problems and to work out the scope of fixes/migrations needed to address issues.
As a developer I like being able to write SQL to help analyze problems and also create reports/charts to visualize trends/issues based on our warehouse of production data.
The charting is useful but it would be nice to be able to iterate/switch through chart types a little more easily (without sometimes having to start over when dimensions/measures are reset).

Mode has improved a LOT since we first began using it in the spring of 2019. The notebook interface is much faster and more stable (it could still be snappier and closer to 'native', but it's much much better), and the plotting abilities are much more flexible and nice to look at. Big props to the mode team for integrating so many useful features and improvements!
Mode has made it much faster to write + share small dashboards for internal consumption. My team gets a lot of random last-minute inbound requests for analytics regarding different parts of our research program, and Mode really makes it easy to make that data available and re-generable for the leadership teams who make those requests.
Some analytics, like almost-automatic chart and table generation using SQL queries, are streamlined in a way I find confusing and hard to use. I find that I have to structure my SQL query in such a way that data comes out just right for mode to display/plot the way I want. SQL is designed for database manipulation and is not great for manipulating data. If the purpose of directly plotting SQL results...

I love that [1] I could get started very quickly [2] easy to write sql queries [3] but have the option of adding more complex features to build cool dashboards.
The advanced features are cool, but it takes a lot of time to figure out how to use them. The Mode service team is really good at providing support, but you still need a lot of background to leverage the help they give you.

I'm a big fan of Mode. We use it for all kinds of business analysis and operational improvements. Plus, we use the dashboards to run daily meetings and have daily emails sent out with key metrics. I've found the support to be great and you can tell that they're working hard to make improvements every quarter.
I like the ease of use and the fact that they keep improving the visualizations so it's becoming a one stop shop for analytics.
It's not Mode's fault, but I need to teach so many other people SQL in order to help them out. Otherwise they just re-run the same old reports.

Small companies without any reporting tool is good to start.
Easy to use with technical background. Easy to run a queries analyze the results and built interesting charts to do some exploratory data analysis or follow some KPIs. Also is good subscription by email (or other methods) and great to use python to create some sophisticated analysis.
It's not easy to use for final user without SQL background. If you are looking for operative reporting or EDA is a good solution but if your final users don't know SQL and wats to do some analysis with data like: drag a drop dimensions measures from data mart and build their own analysis, use "drill down", use some sophisticated filters (or/and) or analysis to compare two sets of data,... it has a great way to go.

I love using Mode to find hard data to support theories. It helps me make a case when I want to change or present something we need to work on in our team. I also build software tools for our team, so it is useful to have Mode data to backup cases for new changes / tweaks to our software.
I love how easy it is to create charts and diagrams from the data to make it easier to explain to others. I love the power that comes with being able to write your own SQL queries
The speed. I know it's data intensive but at the same time, it's a slog to develop in when you are waiting 30s each time the query runs

The tight integration of Mode's SQL editor and python notebooks really brought new functionality to our team. I personally hadn't used SQL queries before attempting to write them in Mode, and the editor made it easy to learn. Suddenly, not only did our company have a single, centralized source of truth for jupyter notebooks that had previously been continually passed around in private messages, but we also had a clearer and simpler way to populate those notebooks with data from multiple databases. It was a a game changer.
Speed of editing is really my only complaint. I write any python notebook functionality outside of Mode and just copy and paste the cells I need to avoid having to write new code within the hosted notebook and deal with the slow refresh rates. This is just an inconvenience though, not a deal breaker. And its definitely seemed to have improved since a year ago. Another complaint is that the dashboard layout editor doesn't feel as intuitive as the rest of the Mode platform. It is specifically often difficult to get the intended result when resizing things relative to each other without iteratively adjusting window sizes in the dashboard editor and actual notebook output.

Mode clearly cares about the success of their users with their product and it’s shown in the features of the offer and the support that they have. Mode has helped us eliminate the need for a two or three step business process by allowing us to set up SWL reporting for any college to run, as required. This product is worth exploring if you have a team that needs data to be run re time or on a scheduled basis in order to provide insights that will help them with their day-to-day activities. Reporting that is real time or on a scheduled basis in order to provide insights has been helpful in streamlining day-to-day activities that are data dependent.
The thing that we liked most is that any employee who is familiar with SQL could set up reporting that can be run by all of our staff (technical or otherwise) to solve problems and avoid directly contacting developers when common data issues come up. For example, when our clients call and ask a common question, the team can immediately run a Mode report and provide the answer in real time, leading to a simple business process and effective solution for the client.
Certain SQL functions are not available in Mode. Organizing reports was hard to manage, and we had many legacy reports from past colleagues that had no context unless the user opened the report, which became time consuming.

The User Interface and the fact that I can perform SQL queries and Python coding on the software are definitely a win. Especially considering the ability to use the query results in the python notebook without having to export and re-import tables.
The fact that it is an online product that I have to log in to each time I want to use it. It would be nice to use my terminal to launch it seamlessly after a first time log in.

My ability to integrate Python, SQL, and HTML/CSS into a unified yet personalized dashboard that scaled well with the amount of data queried led to a product that accomplished our project goals without much technical problems.

10/10 we couldn't have run our business without it. All of our production reports and alerting happen through Mode and it hasn't ever let us down. Mode works great with other tools in its space and fits nicely in to the modern data stack. Two thumbs way up from our team.
- You can query database tables directly using SQL - The visualizations are easy to set up and beautiful - you can literally style ANYTHING on your report using CSS, Javascript, and HTML - the Python notebook is powerful and easy to use, you can use Plotly along with a whole bunch of other great libraries for working with data. - There is a Mode API so you can use report results in tools like zapier to help build alerting around your business metrics - flexable parameterization for reports
This is minor, but the UI can get the tiniest bit glitchy, on occasion. That said I've seen the Mode team address lots of the issues over the years.
