Pros

It allows us to have our calendars, emails, documents and billing in one place.

Cons

The accounting system is not automated well enough and we are required to use a third party and keep double books and manually enter our information into the system.

Greatest benefit is the capacity to integrate document management and financial management and billing.

Pros

We are a small office so the use of AbacusLaw makes our document management (storage & access), time management and accounting particularly important.

Cons

I have very little to offer on the negative side. From time to time when an upgrade is done there are minor disruptions in the flow of work as I adjust to changes to processing of the work flow.

Problems with Support

Three of four years ago, I would have given five stars on all categories. Things have changed. In addition, the new owners increased annual license fees 40% last year.

Pros

It is a comprehensive software product for a law office, with case management, document management and billing.

Cons

For example, we had a crash using the billing component, with a window that popped up with an error code this morning at roughly 9:00 a.m.

We have both the case management and accounting software, and use the Balance services.

The dashboard is a great feature to get a snapshot of your business.

Pros

Regarding the Balance services: CSR was the amazing asset to the Balance Program and to Abacus. She' is professional and exceptionally knowledgeable. She takes the time to educate and suggest better practices, and her customer service skills are excellent. She is wonderful to work with, and manages to take the stress out of bookkeeping.

Cons

Some screen layouts are counter-intuitive, and some reports that would be considered basic reports are considered custom and are only available for a fee.

I've used it since it was first developed. I've never blown a deadline, or lost client info. Can't recommend it enough.

Pros

I've learned how to craft my queries and the flexibility that allows in the flow of my case management is awesome.

Cons

Hard to say, but if anything, I'd like improvements to the functionality of the mobile versions only

Pros

I really like the integration between case management and accounting software as well as the ability to coordinate the calendar with Microsoft Outlook.

Cons

Statute of limitations dates in personal injury forms cannot be locked or secured to prevent accidental or potentially malicious changes by any employee. I have requested a change in this regard but I have not yet seen it implemented. I also wish our private cloud software had a more automated update option.

Abacus Law integrated the case management, "tickler" by rule, forms, contacts, matter, ACCOUNTING AND BILLING, all into a single easy to use and learn package.

Pros

Ease of use, consistency in operation, great support. In nearly our entire use, different versions and our transition to the "cloud" last year, our up-time has been nearly 99%. I was worried about transitioning to APC (cloud), but the support and transition and setup was painless and well executed. Our employees barely noticed the difference, but for, the Remote Desktop link... Very well done!

Cons

There are a few very minor custom things, but overall, nothing worth mentioning.

It is possible to scan documents directly to the cloud case file from your local computer - an important step-saver.

Cons

To fully utilize its comprehensive features will take a commitment to initial as well as ongoing learning while taking the daily, time-consuming steps to precisely link all activities back to the case file.

There are limits to the reporting, but they are also very customizable within those limits.

Pros

I like having the matters and names databases and being able to cross reference cases with people.

Cons

The draw back with Abacus is that it doesn't give you check lists or ways to case manage very well.

Our program crashes constantly and the supposed case management and document management features are too complicated to use.

Cons

We bought the program because it offered case management and document management capabilities, and automatically updated contacts and calendar on the phone.

Awesome billing and invoicing.

Cons

Software glitches and malfunctions. Online service (to host my system) is a bit out of my price range, but I don't know if it's unreasonable. I just can't afford it.

Ease of use - it seems daunting at first but once I learned how to use it sand became familiar with it, I am pleased at the functionality.

Cons

Our accounting side said they have had some trouble in reconciling escrows; however, we are working that out.

Electronic filing of documents is now standard practice.

Pros

I have seen only steady improvement in this superior case management program.

Cons

When something goes wrong it can be aggravating. Because sometimes either the lawyer or staff have to spend a good deal of time resolving the problem with the Abacus technician. The one excuse that I don't like to hear from tech support is "that's an outlook issue or that's a windows issue or we have not updated our software to work with that yet."

Pros

It's a full case management program that encompasses everything we need it to do to run our office smoothly.

Cons

The Accounting portion of Abacus has it's issues. With each new update, changes are made in an attempt to improve it, but there always seems to be some tweaking needed. The Abacus support team, however, has improved tremendously, and they are always ready and available to help make those tweaks.

Once we were able to get past the initial trial and error phase of using the system, we have been able to keep better track of case management, billing has been streamlined a great deal, and we seem to learn new ways of utilizing all the features available on a regular basis.

Pros

Having software that handles client/case management as well as A/P and A/R has helped the flow of all aspects of our business.

Cons

If a mistake is made, it is sometimes difficult to "undo" without having to contact support, and even then, we have been told that it can't be fixed.

Does just about everything I need to for law firm practice management, once I've tinkered with it enough.

Pros

There is not any other PM software out there that is as customizable. However, that comes with a cost in usability (more on that below).

Cons

That is that it can be quite difficult for a non-computer-guy to set up beyond basic calendaring and contact tracking. The workflow and database relationships are not particularly intuitive.
