Greatest benefit is the capacity to integrate document management and financial management and billing.

Pros

We are a small office so the use of AbacusLaw makes our document management (storage & access), time management and accounting particularly important.

Cons

From time to time when an upgrade is done there are minor disruptions in the flow of work as I adjust to changes to processing of the work flow.

We love this program

Pros

It allows us to have our calendars, emails, documents and billing in one place.

Cons

The accounting system is not automated well enough and we are required to use a third party and keep double books and manually enter our information into the system.

Abacus is used our law office to manage PIP claims and it is not the fastest however it is good.

You can keep track of your billable hours and the pre set up pleadings make your life easy.

Pros

IF... and only IF set up properly most pleadings can be pre drafted and auto filled IF and ONLY IF all case info is put in correctly.

Cons

Let's just say you need to set time aside to only dedicate yourself to using the software.

Abacus Accounting\Billing needs to reduce keystrokes when billing and correcting.

coordination with Abacus Law Calendaring program, which is excellent.

Pros

Integration with calendar is good; can click on calendar events to bill them. Ease of integration is generally good.

Cons

It takes TOO MANY KEYSTROKES to bill a time tix, time tix window is not easily navigable, offers little flexibility in billing, need a separate "time tix" for each matter billed, cannot use case name (vs billing number) to bill (other programs allow billing by either name or number).

The transition from Amicus to Abacus was smooth with only minor difficulties

I enjoy the use of the calendar and tracking the documents and events for our files.

Software makes it easy to track important dates, documents, and events for our files.

Cons

the software wasn't able to capture all of our financial history and time accurately so we had to bring over balance forwards.

Abacus Law is great and I recommend it highly. The Accounting portion needs improvement.

Pros

It's a full case management program that encompasses everything we need it to do to run our office smoothly.

Cons

The Accounting portion of Abacus has it's issues. With each new update, changes are made in an attempt to improve it, but there always seems to be some tweaking needed. The Abacus support team, however, has improved tremendously, and they are always ready and available to help make those tweaks.

Increased billability, more control over budget, all of our financial matters in one place for ease of management

Pros

Ease of use - it seems daunting at first but once I learned how to use it sand became familiar with it, I am pleased at the functionality.

Cons

Our accounting side said they have had some trouble in reconciling escrows; however, we are working that out.

Abacus offers a comprehensive system including case management, financial accounting and cloud storage.

Cons

That is probably due to my inexperience with macro forms development. In any case, I have not yet used their forms much.

Does just about everything I need to for law firm practice management, once I've tinkered with it enough.

Pros

There is not any other PM software out there that is as customizable. However, that comes with a cost in usability (more on that below).

Cons

That is that it can be quite difficult for a non-computer-guy to set up beyond basic calendaring and contact tracking. The workflow and database relationships are not particularly intuitive.

Abacus Law integrated the case management, "tickler" by rule, forms, contacts, matter, ACCOUNTING AND BILLING, all into a single easy to use and learn package.

Pros

In nearly our entire use, different versions and our transition to the "cloud" last year, our up-time has been nearly 99%.

Cons

There are a few very minor custom things, but overall, nothing worth mentioning. As I said, I have been a happy customer for about 10 years, seen the growing pains, and various upgraded and improvements, each being better than the previous. We've been quite pleased.

Pros

I've learned how to craft my queries and the flexibility that allows in the flow of my case management is awesome.

Our program crashes constantly and the supposed case management and document management features are too complicated to use.

Pros

I love that a can either print a report based on certain dates or certain cases and that I can name or rename certain fields.

Cons

I will remedy that with installing another monitor side-by-side so that I can keep Abacus open in the case that I'm working in while working on another document at the same time.

Helps me manage my practice and do my billing.

Pros

Designed for lawyers, easy to use, and powerful. The calendar coordinates well with my Outlook and mobile device.

Cons

The accounting side is rigid, which can be frustrating, but the rigidity also helps avoid errors. Generally the system is well balanced.

The cost vs other comparable software is the primary reason why this software was chosen. Additionally (just as important to us) is that the data is stored on our network and not the cloud.

Pros

The legal billing and trust accounting functions are great.

Cons

There's a script to run to attempt to fix it, but it takes hours to run.

Pros

It is possible to scan documents directly to the cloud case file from your local computer - an important step-saver.

Cons

Cost-effective file collaboration with outsiders is not possible, therefore an added cloud account and the expense is required along with the time of copying and moving sizeable files.

Being able to pull the necessary documents quickly, efficiently for each client.

Pros

Custom additions are easy to make to on the fly. The security of the cloud is important and with the scanning of files, all your documents are safe and retrievable from anywhere with remote access.

Cons

Integration with other media for Mircosoft, Outlook, email integration doesn't seems to work very well. Work on the integration piece.

Overall, quite good. The software is a big finicky, but customer/tech support is awesome!

Streamlined efficiency and time savings (we WERE using Time Matters for case database, Timeslips for time and billing, and Quickbooks for accounting, so every matter had to be set up three times).

Pros

The software is pretty intuitive/user-friendly, and customer/tech support is extremely good at fixing the issues that arise.

Cons

A lot of "issues" arise (problems between Outlook and Abacus, Abacus shutting down improperly and requiring me to go to the server to close out open Abacus files and restart Abacus on a more-than-weekly basis, strange messages that even tech support can't figure out regarding printing within Abacus accounting, etc.)

The Abacus Accounting software provides a great place to store all information needed for billing legal matters, which can be complicated

the phone support is a group of tech-savvy guys, but they don't know anything about accounting, so they can't understand accounting issues

I really like the integration between case management and accounting software as well as the ability to coordinate the calendar with Microsoft Outlook.

Cons

Statute of limitations dates in personal injury forms cannot be locked or secured to prevent accidental or potentially malicious changes by any employee.

I am a very effective in my billing using this software.

Pros

When using Abacus to manage cases, the process is as simple as doing the client work, then billing the time, and finally creating an event to either follow up on what was done, to perform an additional task, or to appear in court on a specific date.

Cons

With the most recent version we have had an unusual number of things that are not working the same way they worked prior to the update. While the support staff seems capable, they are on the West Coast and I am on the East Coast, so I end up staying at the end of the day to resolve issues.
