I integrated email octopus with competition software (prize draws) and it worked flawlessly.
I was surprised how intuitive and easy to use the software was. I have tried several different platforms and often experienced frustrations getting to grips with them. Not so with email octopus, it's simple to get started and there's a free plan as well.
I don't really have any issues with email octopus that I could describe as cons.I suppose I would prefer it if there was a lifetime Deal (LTD) rather than monthly subscriptions.

EmailOctopus has been great. I've tried a few alternatives and they were all too complicated as they were trying to be all things to all people. All I wanted was a simple service for sending out weekly newsletters for an affordable price, and EmailOctopus delivers on that.
It's super affordable and comparatively simple to use
It took a minute to get used to the editor, but there's been no email service provider I've come across where that wasn't the case.

What I like most about EmailOctopus is its ability to integrate Payhip, the website that houses my e-Books. This feature has helped me to simultaneously build my contact email with each order processed.
So far, I have not experienced any cons with incorporating EmailOctopus into my business.

Octopus is extremely intuitive. Whatever you're looking for, it's just there where you look first. No useless frills, the UI is stripped down and so tidy.
The email editor could be a little smoother. The font toolbar keeps following the cursor and that's a bit tiring. No major issue, though.

It gets the job done and it's very easy to use if what you want to do is send mass emails.
Email Octopus is really an email marketing solution that is stripped of all the bells and whistles to focus on the most important aspect of an email marketing software which is bulk mailing. They offer a free package where you can have up to 2500 contacts, but this functionality is primarily routed through Amazon SES. You will need to sign up on AWS and enable SES to make use of Email Octopus as a...
If you are using the free tier, setting that up is not the most convenient thing to do because you have to sign up for Amazon AWS and also pass some quality checks and verifications on Amazon's end.

I use EmailOctopus to send monthly editorial email newsletters, and it excels at this. I'm able to have total control over the aesthetic of the emails I send, and the dashboard isn't cluttered with marketing features that I'll never use. All the other services I tested and compared either imposed their own aesthetic on the user, or offered full customization but were bloated with marketing features – or both. EmailOctopus is ideal for my use case.
EmailOctopus dispenses with all the tools for marketers that other services offer and focuses on a simple but crucial set of features: straightforward list management, fine-grained control over templating, clear workflow, sensible analytics that don't veer into creepy surveillance territory.
All that said, there are a couple features that would be nice to have: embedded subscription forms that don't need jQuery, and a CSS inlining tool for building custom templates (many others are available; it would just be nice to have it all in one place).

Over experience is positive. I came here from Mailchimp which was just... bad. This is a breath of fresh air.
The api integration (and documentation!!) are great. Integrated with my app in about an hour.
It's a little clunky at times but all platforms like this are.

It does everything that the big players do and then some. It has a quite intuitive dashboard. It's easy to integrate in already established workflows. It has a good knowledge base and self-service materials. It has great customer service. It has a good branding with delightful user interface. And I haven't even talked about how affordable and how much of an "obvious" choice it is for individuals and small teams.
I wish there were some more options for building lead capture landing pages that don't look that generic and "marketingy" like.

I have had a very pleasant experience with octopus
While other email platforms like Mailchimp really limits your subscribers, octopus lets you have way more for their free version. they even have automations for free.
The image on the landing page gets reduced in quality a lot

I use it for email marketing; list building, automation and broadcasting messages to my existing list.
Simplicity of the User Interface, AWS Integration and Delivery quality.
The price farely high given to the fact that I still have to pay AWS.

Overall I love using Email Octopus. Customer service is excellent if I have any questions or problems.
Features are very comparable to other companies for a lower price point. I love that a portion of proceeds go to ocean cleanup. They are a company that cares.
I wish there were more options for templates with a paid plan.

EmailOctopus is incredibly user-friendly and easy to use. Even if you're unfamiliar with email marketing or haven't used a similar service before, you'll have no problem navigating through the platform
I'd like to suggest the addition of cold email services to the platform. While I understand that cold emailing can be risky and there are legal implications to consider, I believe it's still a valuable marketing strategy that many businesses would like to explore.

I can't say enough good things about them. From the moment I decided to use their service and ongoing. When I have had a question or issue, they respond almost immediately (time zones:). They listen and respond directly. My email open and click rates have improved SIGNIFICANTLY since changing providers and my SPAM complaints have dropped as well.
I like that this service is easy to use, intuitive, and comes with a great cost in comparison to other providers. Every feature has clear guidelines and tutorials if you don't already understand how it works. My emails are clean, responsive and attractive without being garish or too cluttered.
There are some features that it would be good to have, such as list-scrubbing features to prevent adding members who are already subscribed, and to resend to people who did not open an email. BUT- the company is very responsive and has been developing new features that they have been implementing!

Overall, my experience has been great, and I'm so glad I switched!
I love the cost for the service. It's got the things I need for my email campaigns at more than half the cost of what others are charging, and they have excellent support when I've needed help. It was easy to bring my mailing list over from MailChimp, and I still had the features I needed even though some of the really fancy features on MailChimp (ones I rarely touched) weren't available.
The one thing I feel could be better is the analytic tool for campaign performance. I can't click on any of the info to drill down and see more information in many cases, which is a little frustrating because I don't get to see all the analytics I'd like to see easily or at all.

My overall experience was good, but I am not using Email Octopus at this time. This issue is no fault of theirs.
The features were very easy to use, especially in terms of deploying campaigns and doing upgrades.
I felt that the cost to send was limited by not having an unlimited send option.

Brilliant. The user interface is easy to use. It is clear what to do with little or no training and pretty straight forward.
I like how easy it is to drag and drop images onto newsletters. The templates are really good too.
The restrictions to the number of emails being sent can make it hard to balance my prices accordingly. I use it to put newsletters together for my clients. Effectivly i am a middle man, a one of mayment per x number of emails would be a good feature rather than a monthly subscription.

As a small business owner, I really needed to be able to start sending out email campaigns. Email octopus is the only company I found that makes it inexpensive to get started sending out professional emails to your subscribers. Company doesn't seem like they are always trying to up sell me either. The free trial comes with tons of good features and once I start expanding and need to upgrade, I will most likely be staying with email octopus for my email campaigning needs!
I have yet to venture very deep into the software so not quite sure!

saves me hours each week, not having to parse my database into small enough packets that google didn't shut me down as a spammer. I used to have to spend several days sending small groups. now, I just push send and it's done!
easy to use, nice uniform look to my newsletters, for which I have received numerous compliments. it just makes me look more professional. It really amuses or is it amazes me how many people become my advocates and referral sources.
sorry, I got nothing but praise here! oh wait, maybe I need some help dropping in pictures and short clips but then again, I never asked for any help, yet!

To be honest, the first thing that attracted me was the price point and how expansive the free tier is.What's keeping me is the ease of use, docs and API, and the feeling that there's a lot more I can keep doing with EmailOctopus without the tool getting in my way.
Some dashboard pages feel a bit like deadends or incomplete. For example, the campaign dashboard includes a graph of only the first 24 hours. I haven't found a way to expand this, even if it's locked behind a different tier.

Very Unhappy
Used this software for 3 years for my business. Basic but did the job.
The Customer Service. After using Email Octopus for 3 years we left AWS and needed to use them via the standard service. We were told that we were not allowed to send emails through there standard service. You can imagine how upset we were.
Hi Stephen, We're very sorry that we were not able to move you over to our main EmailOctopus product from your existing Amazon SES integration. As an independent email marketing platform, we have to take extra care when approving accounts to ensure high deliverability rates for all of our customers. We understand that this may sometimes mean individuals feel unjustly penalised but we do not take these decisions lightly and will always offer EmailOctopus Connect as an alternative. We regret that this is not a suitable option for you at this time and wish you all the best in finding the right solution for your ongoing email marketing needs. Kind regards, EmailOctopus
