Marketo is good for setting up marketing campaigns and tracking revenue generated through campaigns
Templates break often, organization is a mess, building programs is not an intuitive process, time suck

With Marketo you have a Marketing Automation Suite is great to create straight forward lead capturing campaigns but also sophisticated marketing campaigns with dynamic content and multi-dimensional campaigns. It is a full Marketing Platform with a lot of features to save time and crate successful campaigns. It works fine with Salesforce CMR and SAP C4C (Cloud)
Customer Support and Training. Never had such a professional, but also demanding introduction. But they know, why they are doing it. The Platforms possibilities are huge and will provide the success you need to afford it. Almost everything is possible. Each step of a campaign can be adjusted. You can create your own reports at any stage in the campaign. To copy a whole campaign, including landing pages, flows and all e-mails take just a few clicks. But what is really impressive; to adjust the copied campaign to it’s new date, location a.o. it’s another click and you are up and running.
If it is your first Marketing Automation Software, go and hire a consultant. It is hard to get into the system, if this topic is new for you. There are a few decision you have to take (structure) in an early stage that will cause more work if there are wrong or just missed. Also because of its flexibility it is hard to understand and at it first few rather complex than logical. You definitely need do invest time to get it up and running.

I like it is easy to replicate email lists across multiple campaigns once you've set up once. It is easy to transfer to other campaigns
Setting up email lists can be tedious (at least in the way I was shown through customer support) but customer support was fantastic and walked me through all questions

Great tool for integration of your marketing campaigns to salesforce
Easy to use, able to integrate with Salesforce, seamlessly gets up and running in no time. Great and active community of support of users helping one another.
The more function and features you want to use, the costlier. Limited functionality on Reports and analytics.

We run all of our automated campaigns through Marketo, including social campaigns. As we expand our subscription scope, I am sure we will leverage more features to innovate our program.
I like the interface. Pretty self-explanatory, allowing novice users to find their way around without much help. The ease of smart campaigns and nurture tracking tools are great. The engagement rating on nurture campaigns allows my team to assess effectiveness of each touch and adjust accordingly.
Basic reporting is very basic. For the price, I would expect more detailed reporting and dashboards.

Easy, robust tool for creating campaigns, sending emails, managing contacts.
I find Marketo very intuitive, the way campaigns need to be formatting makes a lot of sense to me so it was easy and fast for me to pick up.
I feel like it logs me out really quickly, so if I go and do another task I have to log back in to finish what I was working on. Not the worst, but can be a little annoying sometimes.

sending email blasts, designing drip nurturing campaigns, and job security
drip nurturing and the marketo university. if you have any questions on how to use the software the product documents are very helpful
the customer support is below average. in fact, you rarely get any support at all. It's very frustrating.

Marketing automation is a misnomer. There's nothing automatic about drip campaigns.
Marketo is an extremely powerful tool, and a great way to manage both your communications and your database of prospects. Provides a score for leads based on certain activities.
There's a major learning curve. At one company we literally had to hire an entire person just to manage Marketo. Expensive and not good for the casual user.
