The email templates, the email scheduler, analytics, different dashboards are great feature and can boost your productivity.

Cons

This is the best platform, having said that it needs training to use more efficiently. So a training is required for new user to make optimal use of it.

Overall though, we were able to distribute targeted email blasts and the analytic and reporting portions of Marketo were very helpful in analyzing the data.

Pros

The software allowed us to easily collect information, group it and send out targeted marketing blasts to the recipients.

Cons

Also when the software first came out we felt it was a bit technical where we could not just assign a marketing person to plan, create, and implement an email blast.

Pros

The ease of smart campaigns and nurture tracking tools are great. The engagement rating on nurture campaigns allows my team to assess effectiveness of each touch and adjust accordingly.

Cons

- Complex criteria for building out nurture programs based on targeted parameters and real-time interactions

Cons

- Speed of platform is sometimes frustrating - it can be great at times...other times it lags beyond belief, when pulling lists, approving emails and landing pages, and just jumping from campaign to campaign.

Recommendations to others considering Marketo Engage

*Make sure to understand pricing - sometimes it increases annually by a percentage, other times support isn't included...and you'll definitely want to pay for the extra support. *Your CRM needs to be clean and dialed in to what you expect to sync with in Marketo. If your database is cluttered with duplicates and processes are not in place yet, work on that first before moving into Marketo otherwise you are in for a world of hurt. *Understand this is a platform that has multiple components. If your marketing team is a person of one, that person will most likely have a full time role in Marketo. So there is a resource issue you have to be aware of - also from the other end of the spectrum, you need to make sure there aren't too many cooks in the kitchen. Having a few power users and processes in place to manage Marketo is the best way to handle this. *Not a deal-breaker, but make sure even basic users are familiar w/ basic HTML and CSS as it is necessary to troubleshoot frequent styling errors.

Make sure you allocate enough resources to the implementation. There is a learning curve, but that is true of any advanced system. Once you get the hang of it, everything in Marketo is really easy. There is one set of principles to learn, and everything works that way, from sending an email blast to setting up advanced reporting.

Pros

Once you set campaigns and functionality up in the platform, it's extremely easy to clone programs and logic.

Cons

I've spent a long time tweaking emails in the platform trying to get them to look good, and without templates, it's extremely difficult at times.

This amount of data necessitates that we have a top notch marketing automation tool at our disposal to do everything we need to with regard to emailing, scoring, lead lifecycle, segmentation, etc.

Pros

Easier to use than Eloqua and more robust than Pardot and Hubspot.

Cons

It gets overloaded with data fairly easily so our programs, campaigns, data cleanup, and syncs will stall greatly if we're not careful.

If you want to see how your email performed, then Marketo Analytics provide the metrics. However, you might find it a challenge to try to understand more than that (conversions, web page views)

- easy to use when it comes to getting email performance - easy to replicate reports - able to customize the columns you want exported - easy to share various of reports

Cons

- slow to load reports when trying to segment - find reporting to be simple, limited filtering - unable to easily see performance and conversion in the same report

The versatility - we use it for lead scoring, nurture campaigns, landing page and performance tracking, sales alerts, and so much more.

Cons

Again - because it's such an integral part of our business there's really not much I don't like. Perhaps it could be slightly more intuitive right off the bat, but even then, with a little training, it's pretty straightforward.
