Pros

Marketing campaigns- We are able to successfully deliver our email marketing campaigns and achieve high results, With Marketo we justify the ROI on marketing spend.

Cons

This is the best platform, having said that it needs training to use more efficiently. So a training is required for new user to make optimal use of it.

*Make sure to understand pricing - sometimes it increases annually by a percentage, other times support isn't included...and you'll definitely want to pay for the extra support. *Your CRM needs to be clean and dialed in to what you expect to sync with in Marketo. If your database is cluttered with duplicates and processes are not in place yet, work on that first before moving into Marketo otherwise you are in for a world of hurt. *Understand this is a platform that has multiple components. If your marketing team is a person of one, that person will most likely have a full time role in Marketo. So there is a resource issue you have to be aware of - also from the other end of the spectrum, you need to make sure there aren't too many cooks in the kitchen. Having a few power users and processes in place to manage Marketo is the best way to handle this. *Not a deal-breaker, but make sure even basic users are familiar w/ basic HTML and CSS as it is necessary to troubleshoot frequent styling errors.

Overall though, we were able to distribute targeted email blasts and the analytic and reporting portions of Marketo were very helpful in analyzing the data.

Pros

The software allowed us to easily collect information, group it and send out targeted marketing blasts to the recipients. The drag and drop interface worked very well and allowed us to implement some logic into the queries we ran to extract the data.

Cons

Also when the software first came out we felt it was a bit technical where we could not just assign a marketing person to plan, create, and implement an email blast.

Pros

The ease of smart campaigns and nurture tracking tools are great. The engagement rating on nurture campaigns allows my team to assess effectiveness of each touch and adjust accordingly.

Cons

For the price, I would expect more detailed reporting and dashboards.

For prototypical B2B companies (~9 month sales cycles, fewer leads, larger deal sizes), Marketo is a great choice. If you have a larger operation than this, just make sure you have the necessary help lined up—the optimization process can get a bit tricky. For active lead databases below 800k, I would 100% recommend Marketo.
