Pros

The crawl speed is reasonably fast, and the custom metrics like Domain Authority are great tools. The competitor benchmarking is great, too.
Compared to other tools like SEMRush, I find it to be more "fun" and more intuitive to search for keywords and such. It's also a more affordable product depending on the level you choose.
It is fairly intuitive when it comes to keyword research and selection. I like that it provides a feature that factors in all elements of a keyword to help you choose the best options for your site.

Pros

Ahrefs is pretty much how we gain success with SEO. The tool is so useful for finding keywords and content opportunities, and tracking your success.
It helps us deliver clarity & confidence to our clients about customer behavior in multiple channels. It is helpful for Customer Journey Mapping, Market Research, and Marketing Plan development.
For our agency, we were able to really fine-tune our keywords and find great linking opportunities. If you are looking for a program to capitalize and do the same, Ahrefs is a great place to start.

Cons

Poor navigation structure can make it difficult to find the tool you are looking for. It makes it less intuitive than suites such as SEMRush or AHREFs.
It's also slightly disappointing that some of the reports are not available until a week or more after you load up the keywords.
Not a lot of customization in the reporting. There are also a lot of error messages that occur when utilizing the different features of the site.

Cons

It's just one of these tools where you're having a damn hard time with finding anything you can dislike. If I'm forced to pick a con, I'll go with price.
Our clients can be a bit guilty of wanting to talk about what they want to be known for rather than what they are known for.
It is a very expensive tool and does not have any affiliate program to offer. Even the smallest paid membership is expensive and comes with limited features and limited allowed searches per month.

Moz Pro

One of the Simpler SEO Tools

Reviewed 5 years ago

I've used Moz as well as ahrefs, Majestic, and SEMRush. Moz has one of the cleanest dashboards and offers simplicity. That said, it's too simple for some of my advanced projects. I prefer the backlink database of ahrefs and the audit tools of SEMRush so it's hard for me to justify the monthly subscription cost.

Pros

Moz is pretty easy to use. The UI is nicely designed and they have most of the tools you need to improve your SEO

Cons

Backlink tools are lacking. It's tough to beat ahrefs which makes it more difficult to justify the subscription cost.

Moz is still king for Keyword research. Their link analysis, while not as slick as aHrefs, does a good job as well.

Cons

Moz could do a lot better for competitive analysis - I wish they'd take back some market share from SEMRush.

Moz is good for competitor research

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall i can rate moz pro 7 out of 10.

Pros

As a digital marketer, i used Moz pro for various activity but, but one of the best things I have used in Moz pro is the keywords gap feature. It will directly tell between you and your competitor which keywords you are lacking and where you need to work on.

Cons

Moz pro backlink database is not much strong like SEMrush and ahrefs, as it shows limited number of backlinks.

Vendor response

Thanks for the review, Junaid. Great to know you find the keyword gap feature useful. We'll share your feedback on backlinks with the team.

Highly recommend overall, just use it combined with other tools

Pros

High quality and has a lot of functionality. The DA extension is super helpful in link reviews and they have a lot of free tools even if you don't keep the pro version which I appreciate. Good overall SEO tool.

Cons

The backlink checker isnt as extensive as other tools like ahrefs and they could improve this further.

Moz has been a key tool for our SEO needs

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

Moz is the swiss army knife of SEO tools. From page analysis with their on page grader to their rank tracker, we uncover so many things about our site. Personally, I enjoy using their domain authority ranking as well as the ability to view key metrics against competitors. As we continue to work on our back links its always a great thing to see how many links we have as well as page opportunities with our key word.

Cons

We're not able to track the top links for our competitors like ahrefs. Which does present some challenges in evaluating our own top links.

A Good Supplement for SEO Intelligence

Reviewed 4 years ago

Moz provides a good toolset that can be a supplement to other platforms. Though I would not rely on it as my primary source of research, it definitely provides good insight.

Pros

LinkExplorer is a robust feature providing good backlink insight. Though it may not be a Majestic or AHREFs, there are features that are rather unique like the Spam Score.

Cons

Poor navigation structure can make it difficult to find the tool you are looking for. It makes it less intuitive than suites such as SEMRush or AHREFs.

Mediocre SEO Tool

Reviewed 4 years ago

MOZ is ok for ad hoc SEO analysis and seems to be aimed at a casual user. However, SEMRush and Ahrefs are more rounded and feature rich products for a similar cost.

Pros

Backlink analysis feature is solid. On page grader feature may be helpful for novice search engine optimizers.

Cons

Keyword research feature is useless for search terms with lower search volume and overall is way behind SEMRush or Ubersuggest.

Moz is good SEO software but there are now better options available

Reviewed 2 years ago

Moz used to be the industry-leading SEO software when Rand Fishkin was the face of the company. But after he left, Moz has kind of been passed with Ahrefs and SEMRush who offer more advanced features, a better UI, and cheaper prices.

Pros

I liked how Moz was able to detect technical SEO issues that I had with my website, and it picked up some additional issues that weren't found with Ahrefs. The site audit feature is also very good.

Cons

The data doesn't seem to be as accurate as with Ahrefs or SEMRush. The interface is outdated and clunky. I don't like the 'Moz Spam Score' metric, which is not used by any other SEO software or Google. It appears to be an outdated metric and is only updated every 3-6 months - in the world of fast-pasted SEO, that is too infrequent for my preference. I also don't like that I reached out to customer support and just received a generic copy-paste response that didn't address my query at all.

Vendor response

Hi Skyler, thank you for your review! Great to have your feedback on the tools - we'll pass it to our dev team.

MOZ is a Good SEO Tool with Lot's of Improvement Needed

Reviewed 2 years ago

I started my SEO journey with the help of some free tools in the market. MOZ is one of them. So I have so many pleasant memories with my earlier SEO campaigns where I used MOZ as a primary research tool. But by the time, market is change. We seo professionals need huge data to research and at this point MOZ made me very upset. They need to develop a lot of features in terms of audit/research.

Pros

Moz is good for some SEO Professionals who are trying to find competitors backlinks, audit the website, keywords and can check the keywords ranks as well. Moz has it's very own parameter to measure the strength of a webpage. They named it, DA = Domain Authority & PA = Page Authority. It helps to find low competitive keywords by using their free browser extension.

Cons

Moz has not the robust features like the other SEO tools such as Ahrefs, SEMRush. It is a OK type tool for me. That's why I recently reduced using this tool.

Vendor response

Hi Mohammad! Thanks for your review. We recently added Competitive Research and Performance Metrics into our feature set. Hope you can check them out.

Complete Review of Moz

Reviewed 7 years ago
Pros

Moz Pro a comprehensive SEO software suite with several SEO functionalities in one web-based tool. Moz Pro has a visually-pleasing, non-intimidating design different from the more compact interfaces of other SEO tools (SEMrush*, Ahrefs, Majestic SEO or Raventools). Two strong points are Open Site Explorer and Keyword Explorer, which address the core issues of SEO well Another important factor of MOZ it the fact it has the strongest community behind of any SEO tool, compared to SEMrush*, Ahrefs, Majestic SEO or Raventools.

Cons

Their database/crawler/metrics are just available for US, so is useless for sites and SEO outside the US

We have used moz on and off now over an year. We have used along with ahrefs and found moz results to be more accurate - we have also been able to generate more opportunities for backlinks for ourselves.

Pros

The update index and link tracking capabilities that have been added to moz over the last few months makes it absolutely indispensable. For a SEOers, tracking link quality and link updates is the first port of call. Moz is now the best tool that does that

Cons

The pricing feels slightly expensive but I guess the utility is also very time bound. Nothing apart from that.

Useful, but I prefer other similar tools

Reviewed 6 months ago

I had a good experience with them. Nevertheless, I wouldn't pay for it. Price is very similar to Ahrefs/SemRush and I would rather invest in those. I would consider it if the tool would be 30%-40% cheaper.

Pros

Most of the features are useful. Nothing to say about that. Keyword tracking, reporting, competitors analysis. All is useful either for freelance SEO consultants and agencies either for On-house SEO consultants. What I like the most about Moz if the Domain Authority metric.

Cons

I'm not a big fan of their UX, specially in the beginning, I found very hard to find the feature I was looking for. Also, the price is similar to other similar tools that have more and better features (Ahrefs or SemRush).

Vendor response

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Marco! We're glad you find most of our features useful, especially for keyword tracking, reporting, and competitor analysis. The love for Domain Authority is mutual! Moz is a good tool, but it's not quite 'great' due to a few problems

Reviewed 4 years ago

While Mozpro is something i'd really like to like as a Seattle native, but it's not something i actually used in practice even with my company provided license. I use their training and webinars but not the tool as Semrush and Ahrefs is superior

Pros

Moz has just about everything you could need to run a SEO business or just do SEO for your own website. With good support articles, help section, and support they know what they're doing and want your site to succeed.

Cons

Moz, in my own experience compared to other software, consistently gave different results for things like rank and volume. This was terrible when i was using multiple services at once to double check work. The other issue is the design layout is not easy to use nor intuitive.

Perfect for small businesses, not for power users

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

Part of what I like about the software is what I like about the organization behind the software: They're very thoughtful and scientific about each feature they add. There's a robust set of tools around keyword research and link analysis--the basis for any SEO campaign. There's enough utility here in a nicely-presented package to be helpful--and not overwhelming--to orgs that want to get smarter about their SEO game.

Cons

Moz is great for the basics, but power users are going to find a lot missing. For example, their link index is much smaller than the ones in ahrefs or Majestic, and anecdotally I've found that their keyword data contains much less search volume information than competitors, as well.

Having used many SEO softwares and Digital Marketing Suites, my favorite thing about Moz is its approach to data. The team at Moz is meticulous in producing accurate and responsible data within their tool. Domain Authority (along with the MozBar) are incredibly helpful in gauging a site's ability to rank. I love their keyword tracker - it's really easy to use. Since its most recent update, Moz's link explorer is now one of the best and boasts one of the largest link databases in the industry. Last but not least, the Moz community is incredible. The Q&A is great and high quality, really helpful.

Cons

I don't necessarily dislike anything about Moz (I do think the user interface could be better), but in general almost every one of their tools has a superior option out there. SEMRush has far better keyword and topical research tools, Screaming Frog performs a better crawl, Majestic (subjectively) has better link data, and Ahrefs has better reports (in my opinion). I also think since seemingly changing who they do citation management through, their Local SEO tool is not what it should be.

Good tool, good features, too complex?

Gave great insights and actionable tasks

Pros

This is a really powerful tool with powerful insights. A great alternative to others like SEMRush, Moz etc.

Cons

The UI can do with a birt of work - it is not as intuitive as it can be and takes some figuring out

A must have for anyone serious about SEO

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

Where to start? This is the best software for competitor web analysis, keyword identification, learning what a website is worth, identifying money pages, and more. Anyone serious about making money with a website should be using AHREFs.

Cons

Nothing really. Maybe the price, but it's well worth it. I used to pay for Moz, but no more.

Great tool if you need something powerful for SEO

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

I used to use Moz Pro for our SEO needs (keyword stats, website crawls, etc) but I was glad I initiated the switch to Ahrefs (for the same price point!) It has way more capabilities, my favorite being a full website audit in under an hour with a more robust list of items that needed updating. Ahrefs also lets you customize the crawl! So it made it easy to exclude nofollow pages. When I also wanted to add new keywords to my plan, it would take days for Moz to update the data whereas Ahrefs had it in minutes. Lastly, I like the in-depth comparison data for competitors.

Cons

It can be overwhelming if you don't know exactly what you are looking for. The features are abundant, but I only really used about 1/2 of them.

Ahrefs is a great SEO tool at a great price

Reviewed 2 years ago

I always use Ahref for keyword explorer (keyword research) and use it even above SEMRush keyword magic tool. This, in itself, is worth the price to pay since the accuracy of the keyword tracking, user interface, and more, make it a very easy experience to research new keywords. As well as this, the backlink profile is really easy to use and extremely easy to see where new backlinks are and have come from. The same goes for lost backlinks of both my domains and competitors. Overall, I know SEMRush and others have their own tool. However, Ahrefs Keyword Explorer is the one to go for in my honest opinion.

Pros

The keyword tracker tool is one of the best tools for tracking keywords of all SEM tools out there. The backlink profile is very accurate and has a great UI to understand a domain's authority. The Authority tracker is also very good.

Cons

Other features such as site audit, content optimization, position tracking, are not as good. There are less developed tools with Ahrefs than competitors such as Moz or SEMRush.

Ahrefs

The most feature-rich SEO tool

Reviewed 2 years ago

They have a solution for whatever need you might have. And if they don't have it yet, you can expect them to develop it soon. Ahrefs is the most powerful tool for SEOs who focus on backlinks, while it's more than enough for people who are trying to maintain their website, come up with new keywords to write about, and have an eye on the competition.

Pros

It's an all-in-one solution for your website SEO. Apparently, they have the most active crawler among all SEO tools, and they cover everything you need from your site's technical performance to keywords, backlinks, etc. Ahrefs focus on educating the community is a big bonus. If you're keen on starting your SEO career, or improving your website SEO, Ahrefs is the only tool you need.

Cons

Unlike some other competitors like Moz, they don't have solutions for local SEO. Also their new pricing is slightly less affordable. I wish they had a Lite package for SMBs too.

Vendor response

Kudos, Hasan! Just recently we started recognizing Local Packs in SERP, which can help with your local SEO efforts (if you don't already count the Rank Tracker, which allows you to monitor keyword rankings on a location basis). Hope this helps!

Ahrefs

Comprehensive SEO tool

Reviewed 4 years ago

We use ahrefs as part of our BAU SEO and content marketing as it offers the most well-rounded range of features. That being said, the tool's shortcomings mean that we still need to rely on other platforms to carry out any in-depth research or planning.

Pros

Ahrefs is a solid all-round SEO tool, but the powerful backlink analysis feature is where it really brings home the bacon and is by far and away the best backlink tool compared to competitors like Moz.

Cons

The pricing structure is fairly analogue and isn't suited to smaller businesses looking to break into SEO analysis. More wholistic traffic analysis, like that offered by SimilarWeb, would be a welcome feature.

One Tool with Whole A lot of eFatures

Reviewed 4 years ago

Very nice but expensive. Gives many features which other similar tools are missing.

Pros

If updates the site's stats regularly and displays the most accurate data. It is one of the best SEO tools for content optimization and has so many features to offer. It has everything and data filtration filters are so useful to see the required data. I like the feature to find out relevant sites and their rankings for keywords and DA PA etc.

Cons

It is a very expensive tool and does not have any affiliate program to offer. Even the smallest paid membership is expensive and comes with limited features and limited allowed searches per month. For sites starting a new business, its backlink tool does not display accurate stats and DA and PA. There is a whole a lot of difference in DA and PA if compared with MOZ DA PA check. MOZ is considered to be the best and most accurate website analysis tool.

A great SEO tool that's only getting better

Reviewed 4 years ago

A critical piece of any SEO's toolkit.

Pros

aHrefs is the industry standard for link research. In my mind, it's outpaced Moz, with high-quality link crawling and a robust feature set, and if it gets better with tracked keywords, can come for SEMRush too.

Cons

Inability to track keywords reliably means it's still catching up to SEMRush in some ways.

Best SEO Tool on the Market

Reviewed 3 years ago

Ahrefs has primarily allowed us to track keyword positions, perform thorough KW & competitor research, and keep track of backlinks.

Pros

Ahrefs offers almost every feature I need to do SEO research & reporting, and I feel that the data provided seems more accurate than other tools. In particular, the backlinks report feels more complete than that provided by SEMRush or Moz.

Cons

The cost is prohibitive for smaller companies or individuals. However, relative to the quality of the product, there is value.

Cons

Lack of technical analysis, Semrush has a better tools and options to manage technical aspect in the long run.

Ahrefs is the best and only SEO tool you need for keyword research

Reviewed 2 years ago

Ahrefs has helped me with keyword research for a new blog to develop a content strategy for the next 6 months and determine what content to prioritize and focus on. It has also been very helpful with competitor research to find keyword ideas I would never have thought of. I also use it to track position rankings and backlinks.

Pros

Ahrefs is the best SEO tool for keyword research and competitor analysis. I've tried other software like SEMRush and Moz but found that Ahrefs is the most accurate regarding keyword difficulty. I also like the backlink tracking, as well as competitive research tools to find keyword ideas from competitors as well as backlink suggestions.

Cons

There is a bit of a steep learning curve to get started, and at first, Ahefs interface can seem quite overwhelming and intimidating, as if there is perhaps too much information. However, Ahrefs have excellent YouTube training resources that help you understand all the important features and feel comfortable using Ahrefs within a couple of hours. There are also great tutorials for people completely new to SEO. Although to take advantage of Ahrefs' most important features, you need to pay for the Standard Plan, which is quite expensive for small businesses, startups, and bloggers compared to the Lite plan. There is also no longer a paid trial version available.

Vendor response

Appreciate the kind words, Skyler! Pricing-wise, please note that the Standard plan is more suitable for seasoned SEOs, not necessarily startups. Indeed, we've discontinued the trial. But people who want to convince themselves about the value of Ahrefs can use our free plan. With the free plan, you can use Site Explorer and Site Audit for free for all your verified projects - sign up here: https://ahrefs.com/webmaster-tools We also have a bunch of free tools under our free tools hub: https://ahrefs.com/free-seo-tools These should serve as a "soft trial" for starters.
