Pros and cons

I love how Grant Holster is developed by a grant pro and the grant process is central to the program, not a secondary function like a lot of other fundraising programs.
Also, when I needed help - they responded immediately and were so friendly and caring. The website and Facebook pages have lots of tools and tips for grant writers.
My experience is that Grant Holster is very open and honest about what they are able to do - their main goal is to make life better for grant seekers. It shows in everything they do.
Sometimes the interface will experience errors and will not load features.
The main features I think it is missing is notifications for due dates and importing info, checklist, or data.
Everything I say here, I realize there might be features I don't know about that could solve my problems.

Boost Efficiency & Sanity with Grant Holster!

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

In the grant world, tracking deadlines and tasks is daunting. Some days, it's almost more difficult than putting together the proposal itself! Grant Holster takes the stress out of grant seeking. As a freelance grant writer, I'm able to depend on Grant Holster to manage not just deadlines, but all of the other pieces of grant seeking: tracking reports, pending requests, documenting conversations with funders, and storing completed proposals and grant documents. An added bonus? Grant Holster is home to a Vault to host organization information such as details on staff and volunteers, board members, budgets, organization documents, and program details.

Cons

I love Grant Holster! It's important to remember, like any good software, you have to use it to be effective. If you don't track due dates and grant tasks, they won't show up on your "to do" list.

Vendor response

Hi Jodi! Thank you so much for your review. We love the Review Title! We are happy to hear that Grant Holster is working so well for you!

Grant Holster has walked in my shoes!

Reviewed 2 years ago

My experience is that Grant Holster is very open and honest about what they are able to do - their main goal is to make life better for grant seekers. It shows in everything they do! When I was looking at software to help me, I looked at lots of different options. Grant Holster was the only one that didn't make me jump through hoops to get information. They gave me a comparison chart with other available software so I could make an informed decision. Total respect for that.

Pros

They advertise that this was developed by grant professionals FOR grant professionals - boy, that's true!!! No other software "knows" the information I need every day. The reports are perfect - they have saved me days of work. The price is pretty painless - started at a lower tier and then increased as my needs increased. They have a one month free trial, so I had time to really play around with it. Also, when I needed help - they responded immediately and were so friendly and caring. The website and Facebook pages have lots of tools and tips for grant writers.

Cons

It is still a new application -- they are still working on making improvements. Considering the low price, though, this is not a big deal at all. The staff keep us informed about new features and get our feedback on what would help us more.

Vendor response

Thank you for your review! We are so happy to hear how much Grant Holster has helped you with managing your grant-seeking

Great Resource!

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

The Vault is amazing! I like that this is a program designed with grant writers and their teams in mind.

Cons

To be a bit more client-centric with some features. Seems like a lot of data entry.

Vendor response

Thank you for your review, Marquetta! The Vault is one of our favorite features too. We know from experience that there can be a lot of data entry to get started, but we are currently working on a way to upload your data to Grant Holster! Thank you for trying Grant Holster!

A must for consultants

Reviewed 2 years ago

Now that I have gotten in the habit of using it, it has been smooth and I love it.

Pros

I love how Grant Holster is developed by a grant pro and the grant process is central to the program, not a secondary function like a lot of other fundraising programs. It allows me and my clients to see the whole grant cycle, and to see where we are in that cycle as well. I consider Grant Holster to be one of the critical assets to my business.

Cons

I wish it was easier to add individual contacts to funders instead of creating a unique contact and then assigning it. Also, I started using it thinking about it as a client management or project management program, so it took a bit to get used to creating a funder and THEN creating a project and assigning it to a client.

Vendor response

Thank you so much for your amazing review! We are always looking for ways to improve and love getting your feedback about the Contacts. We do have that on our list of things to improve!

No more spreadsheets!

Reviewed 2 years ago
Pros

Implementing Grant Holster at my previous organization reduced the number of tracking documents we had for grant management from about 5 to 1. When I started my own business, I knew that this would be a product that would help me tremendously in managing multiple clients and multiple projects for each client.

Cons

Some of the data pieces have to be manually linked to each account and/or project, such as contacts. The system tracks a great deal of data, but if the points were able to be linked more easily then it would enhance functionality and ease of use.

Grant Holster simplifies grant tracking for my small consulting firm

Reviewed 2 years ago

Grant Holster helps me track my grant submissions & awards. It is so easy to create a report for different time periods to who award totals. I also like that it can serve as a simple client database.

Pros

Grant Holster is super easy to learn how to use.

Cons

Sometimes the interface will experience errors and will not load features. Would love it if it could interface with Outlook and Harvest!

Vendor response

Thanks so much for your review! We are working on getting those pesky errors cleaned up! Having Grant Holster work with Google, Outlook, and Harvest is on our list of wanted features as well and we hope to have this in a future update.

Great solution for consultants!

Reviewed 2 years ago

It has greatly solved my problem of not having all of my deadlines in one place. Now in one easy screen I can see deadlines across all clients. It's also nice to be able to have the online portal link, user name, and password right in the project screen. That also saves me time because I don't have to go into my spreadsheets all the time.

Pros

1) Seeing all deadlines with one click 2) Ability to copy a project from last year (although, to be fair, I haven't really used this yet because I'm coming up on one year of using GH). 3) Having the Vault where you can house all of the different programs and projects of each of your clients. 4) Estimated hours per project is a nice feature that I really need to start using!

Cons

Everything I say here, I realize there might be features I don't know about that could solve my problems!! 1) I feel like there could be a better system for scheduling reports, instead of calling them "Other" in the project type. 2) I don't love how reports look 3) More often than it should happen, I get an error message when I'm trying to save a new project, funder, or client. Sometimes the error message really doesn't mean anything and the entry is saved, and sometimes it really doesn't save. This one is probably the most annoying. 4) This isn't really a "con" but I wish the software would flag if you try to add a funder that's already in the system, instead of letting you create a duplicate. This is especially an issue when there's more than one user.

Vendor response

Thank you so much for your review! Many of your cons are things we have on our priority list to address, so you'll see your wishes come true in a future update!

I use this daily

Reviewed 2 years ago

I am able to manage my time and projects and get an overall view of what I need to focus on each day.

Pros

It keeps me organized. I love the deadlines feature and having the ability to sort. I am able to stay on track using actions and able to see my progress and successes.

Cons

None of it is difficult. Some things may be a little time consuming to initially set up, but once it's in there it is easy to renew and track for the next year.

Vendor response

Thanks for your review, Nikki!

Cons

The main features I think it is missing is notifications for due dates and importing info, checklist, or data.
