What users say

Overall, Kindful has been game changer for our little office. I researched several Donor management programs and for the money, Kindful is the best, hands down.
Management of our small but growing database and online donor platform with Stripe significant incentive to invest in Kindful. Kindful campaigns and platform supported that important goal.

It's Worth A Look!

Reviewed 4 years ago

If you are looking for donor software that is user friendly, a good price, and meets your needs, then I highly suggest you give Kindful a look.

Pros

I didn't know much about donor software when I started so I began researching multiple options. As a nonprofit, I was looking for something that would meet my needs without breaking the bank. What I liked about Kindful was that it offered most of the same features as other software programs at a great price. For options that are not included, Kindful partners with other agencies so you actually get...

Cons

I was skeptical about Kindful not including every possible feature within it's software. However, other software that does is double or triple the cost if not more. You also may be paying for things you don't need so I actually like this option a lot more than I thought I would. So far, Kindful meets all of my needs.

Through kindful, we have raised funds to cover treatment & reintegration costs of over 100 patient

Reviewed 2 years ago

We were struggling to provide essential and proper care to poorer clients who could not cover the costs of their treatment, often resulting in premature discharge of clients needing additional care. Once we established our foundation to help raise funds for such cases, Kindful has been really great in helping us source donations, particularly from international benefactors. We are now able to reach a lot more of clients needing financial support than ever before.

Pros

Unlike most fundraising platforms, Kindful provides very clear and concise pricing plans that do not conceal any hidden fees or fine-print clauses that trick clients out of funds raised. This is a very transparent process that allows us to be confident in the financial reporting of each campaign to our partners and donors without any impact on the trust they have in us. Also, Kindful makes the process of donation extremely easy by making contributions possible through multiple quick processing channels.

Cons

Compared to other alternatives we tried, I find that their training resources are a little too narrow in focus. They could be broadened further to cover all other related elements of nonprofit management and financing.

Great donor management software

Reviewed 3 months ago

Kindful has made managing donations and donors very easy and definitely has contributed to the growth of our organization.

Pros

I chose Kindful as we were launching our non-profit after researching many products. With many products you have to choose between robust functionality and ease-of-use. The more it does, the more difficult it is to use. Kindful gave me the best of both worlds. It does nearly everything I would want it to do, with some great integrations such as Quickbooks and Mailchimp, and was still very user friendly. All with a price point that is more than competitive.

Cons

There maybe could be greater functionality and customization with the donation pages and plugins.

Ease of use and customizable

Reviewed a year ago

Customer service is amazing! Really great value for the cost. It's intuitive to navigate, not overly cluttered. The financial reports are SO customizable. The tax-document send-out is so simple and fast, and they have options to update addresses (like when people move) from the post office database. So many other integrations make this a platform easily customizable to different nonprofits' needs.

Pros

Customer service and set-up was a breeze! So helpful being able to contact real people for custom solutions. Importing records from other systems is one of the easiest I've seen.

Cons

It's not quite as robust on the CRM side as some of the other options out there- however even with that, they have easy integrations with most of those major programs!

Great if you're flexible.

Reviewed 5 years ago

Overall, it gives us a lot of functionality especially for the price as compared to our former software, but at times gets a bit frustrating and/or time consuming. The service team is very helpful and on-going updates continue to improve the software and the software apps that can be used with Kindful.

Pros

Kindful is easy to use especially after the latest redo of the menu options. It's fun to use and I love having it sync with our donation page and being able to do special things like peer to peer fundraising and syncing to CrowdRise when we have special campaigns. It's great for automatic receipting and keeping an annual summary available to donors. Donors also an login to their account and do updates which really is a time saver for me - I do fewer updates on expired credit cards and address changes for example. The people who work for Kindful are very professional, friendly and helpful.

Cons

At times we get a little frustrated trying to figure out how to pull certain reports and often I run a report and then edit it in Excel. There's not a lot of flexibility as to how the report is printed. Also finding the group we want is sometimes difficult in the software - again, I may get it to a point and then manipulate the report in Excel. Some tasks in Kindful seem to take more steps than I'd prefer - somethings can be bulk updated but not all things for example.

A great tool for small to mid-size nonprofits

Reviewed 4 years ago

We got Kindful in July 2017 to replace Salsa, which we found overpriced and clunky. We chose Kindful because, combined with Mailchimp and Eventbrite, it met our needs very well, and enabled us to reduce the cost of our development/communications/event toolkit by over 50% overnight, while substantially improving the quality of our tools. We found the Kindful team very easy to work with, always helpful and responsive. We also appreciate that Kindful keeps getting better and more sophisticated.

Pros

Kindful is very easy to learn to use, and it offers all the features that fundraisers at most small to mid-size nonprofits will want, without needless complexity and at a very reasonable price tag. It also integrates very well with best-in-class tools like Mailchimp and Eventbrite, enabling you to build a suite of tools tailored to your organization's specific needs. Kindful's dashboard is very good, and their reporting features are solid. Help materials are great. We also really appreciate the very responsive and very friendly staff, always there to help!

Cons

Some aspects of Kindful aren't super intuitive, and if you don't use them frequently, you may spend some time confused and looking around. That said, the help materials will usually solve these problems quickly.

No regrets switching over to team Kindful!

Reviewed 2 years ago

Very glad we found Kindful. We have had tremendous support. Response times are consistently timely. Appreciate the opportunity to access trainings and webinars quite regularly. I feel that this program is one we can grow with. Kindful gives us access to data in a simplified format to easily view and share. Looking forward to what is next with Kindful.

Pros

Affordable, user friendly for us and our donors. Really appreciate that it allows our donors access to their own accounts. Compatible with multiple other apps/tools - and constantly expanding the list.

Cons

More access to some of the data. Appreciate that their are some information/options but they are only for viewing and not reporting. There are some aspects that are specific to our needs so understand how some requests aren't common enough to justify a change. There are times when there are asks and I will get a very vague answer - this is where a user group could be very beneficial. Those of...

Valuable Insights into Donor Care

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, I am happy with Kindful and the tools it provides my organization. It easy to use and my staff is not overwhelmed with using it. Their support team is top-notch and always able to help walk me through fixing an issue or answering a question.

Pros

I value our donors and I want to know how best to care for them and followup. I like the ease of use in creating new transactions and the automated reports. I like the reporting capabilities and ease of getting the data I need to manage our organization. I like that my staff finds it easy to use.

Cons

Entering a single new donor from a check takes additional steps to create the donor, then create the transaction. There is a batch tool that makes this process easier if entering multiple donations. There are some issues with reporting that make it difficult to pull everything I need. Most of these are one-off issues, but still important. I have not found the peer-to-peer tool easy enough to use where I feel confident that my donors would use it. I had to create a pdf to give to them to walk them through all the steps. I wish it had email and text message marketing built-in.

Strong for "Cash" Transactions - NOT so Strong for "Non-Cash" Donations

Reviewed 2 years ago

Currently, our overall experience is rough to say the least - particularly with "non-cash" approach/needs. They have made the "non-cash" part of this software so cumbersome that it truly has become a "time waster" and not efficient for us. Their team has certainly attempted to be helpful - but most times it's merely referencing "blog" articles, link, etc... (which I've typically done BEFORE ever reaching out to the support team). And, suggestions don't really appear to be taken seriously - since no one follows-up with those, nor do they indicate any changes for upgrading and/or making significant changes based on suggestions.

Pros

Ease of use is fine for "cash, checks, credit card, etc." transactions - but NOT for "non-cash" donations. Monthly subscription and pricing. I also really like the "interface" and virtual/multiple access for our entire staff/team. The "dashboards" nice - but missing a lot of detail - especially for "non-cash." I do like the "help" section which is part of the dashboard - which allows you to also ask direct questions and provide a related URL. Integration is nice - but even then the vendors have issues related in how they actually integrate with Kindful proper - adding more work in the end (ex: ClickBid).

Cons

Kindful's treatment of "Non-Cash" donations is so far removed from the way "cash, checks, credit card, etc" transactions are handled - it simply works against us and makes to many "hoops" to jump thru in attempting to manage data for "non-cash" donors. Especially, since 85% of all our donations are "non-cash." If you have a lot of "non-cash" donations - this is probably not the best choice for you...

A clumsy, confusing attempt at a Donor CRM system

Reviewed 5 years ago
Pros

It is better than the system we were using before, which was not a CRM platform. We have the capability to add notes and upload documents to a constituent's record. That's about it.

Cons

Our problems with Kindful began with the data upload. Some of our batches were uploaded twice and the support team at Kindful could do nothing to rectify it. Once your data is into the system, it's a complete mess to view. It's organized in abstract boxes across the screen and difficult to filter for the info you need. We were excited that the platform integrated with MailChimp- but this has proven...

I use Kindful for our non-profit accounting and donor management (CRM)

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

Kindful is designed to be part of - not the whole of - a CRM/fund accounting strategy. The upside of this is that you are not pigeonholed into one system forever - it is designed to play nicely with other programs/systems. Once you go through the learning curve, the program is straightforward and easy to use. Customer support is fantastic for questions. I have to manually enter quite a few...

Cons

Not the most intuitive layout, so takes some time getting used to, but once you do it is a very powerful tool. Looks good on a desktop, but not on iphone display. Integration with quickbooks is my main goal and is not perfect - numbers sync fine but sometimes followup is necessary to make sure the accounts/funds are credited properly. Would love to see an integration with campaign monitor for emails and a better to-do/task sharing interface (like basecamp).

Vendor response

Hey David, Thanks a million for the positive review! We're extremely grateful for the overwhelmingly positive comments you have about Kindful. Our main focus is being a platform that can connect to the services you need ¿ so it's a huge pat on our back to hear that you're able to use the QuickBooks and Zapier integrations to improve your accounting and database management. Kindful has radically improved KBFPC's donor management

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

Customer service is outstanding - I can often find my answers in the help menu, but when I don't the email response is almost immediate and very thoughtful & thorough. There is little that I dislike about Kindful. Support during start up was personalized and authentically interested in what my needs and questions were, I didn't ever feel that I was being pitched to. It is quick and easy to set...

Cons

Pros FAR outweigh the cons! Some of the features are not completely intuitive, especially the naming and categorization of them. Sometimes I have to click on several tabs to find the feature I was looking for. Some of the "field" names do not function as I expect them to - but customer support assisted me in writing a query to fix them all at once. (it was not too problematic) I don't love the formatting for snailmailers and acknowledgements - but I haven't spent a whole lot of time trying to tweak them. I print envelopes from Kindful, and export the list of acknowledgements and mail-merge that data into a document I prepared in Microsoft Office; again, not a big deal, but I had to figure out this work-around.

Vendor response

Hi, Catriona! Thanks for writing such a glimmering review. It really brings us joy to see how much you've been able to benefit from Kindful's features. Small Nonprofit Loves Kindful!

Reviewed 6 years ago
Pros

I love how easy it is to use this software! We went from organizing our donor base in spreadsheets - which is a difficult way to keep data "clean" - to using Kindful, which has helped us really minimize our time spent on data entry and upkeep. We have so much more time to spend on more important tasks.

Cons

I really wish this software had a way to describe a donation amount. We would likely get more donations if we were able to equate them to our mission somehow. Meaning, when it says $25, it could say next to it "this donation could cover the cost of ____ for our organization." Also, this addition would allow us to sell sponsorships this way, too. Secondly, I wish this software had a quantity field. If these two additions were made, we would eliminate the need for a event registration plug in.

Vendor response

Hi Mackenzie, Thanks for the awesome review! It makes all of us at Kindful excited to hear you're getting organized and saving time. That's kind of our mantra here, so it pumps us up to hear organizations accomplishing that. I totally hear you on the donation amount labels. Those are great ways to inspire more practical donations. I'd actually suggest doing that on your website: list the costs...

Low Cost, High Value CRM Product

Reviewed 3 years ago

This was the least stressful software transition I've made. Love the ability to create and safe reports.

Pros

Onboarding to new software is the stuff of nightmares, or an acid stomach at the very least. Over the years, I've learned to fear falling in to a "black hole" of endless hours spent learning the ropes and getting the program to perform as advertised. Switching to Kindful was surprisingly easy -- the upload system via cvs files was efficient, the online training tools answered most of our questions, and when we needed help, a quick response from Kindful was greatly appreciated.

Cons

Going through three screens to reach the Contact screen when looking up mailing addresses. Oh, and there needs to be clarification of the multiple entry points for phone numbers.

I have been able to integrate our golf fundraiser sign ups int our website because of your widgets but would like more customization. would love to be able to sign up volunteers/runners/etc through the site instead of using active.com! overall, this platform has made my job easier and more functional especially on the go because it's web based (surprisingly, my old organization used an archaic system that was only accessible on the server)

Pros

user friendly interface, quick turnaround on customer questions, ease of reporting, clean look when donor is using donation portal, most critical information showing

Cons

would like a better way to separate reporting on various campaigns during a given year and general manipulation of data (for example, the transaction reports are sent via pdf so I can't easily analyze the data in a spreadsheet), would like outstanding card value to be a reporting option,

entering donations is extremely easy! whenever we have multiple donations that all meet the same criteria, what used to take us forever to enter, is done extremely quickly with the batch transaction option. Also, some of the reports that are already generated, are very helpful.

One thing that has been a bit of a pain is the mail merge. Great for the Money and with New Updates is Getting Better

Reviewed 4 years ago

This software has been extremely beneficial for our organization and they keep making improvements to ensure customer satisfaction. There are minor things here and there that are annoying, but this is definitely better than what we were using and the price is much better than other CRM companies out there.

Pros

The organization I work for used Salesforce most recently and it was nightmare for nonprofits. Kindful is built for nonprofits, so they understand how you will used the software and have made several features, such as generating tax letters, super simple.

Cons

The search functionality could be better as could the contact duplicate finder. It is also annoying that the system creates a new contact if a donor does not log into their account to make an online donation.

Ok for the money, but limited reporting and dashboard functionality

Reviewed 2 years ago

Overall, kindful is an ok product but since we implemented it 5 years ago, other CRM's have come to the market that I believe to be a better value for the money (Bloomerang as an example).

Pros

Its fairly cheap and the day to day activities (entering donations, pulling mailing lists, etc) are fairly straight forward.

Cons

The reporting is not good at all. What a report that shows your last active for each donor? Not available. Want to see a dashboard on anything besides yearly or monthly campaign/fund totals? Sorry, that's not available either. Aside from the reporting being quite limited, the overall building of reports is very poor and not very intuitive. For instance, if you want data for a single calendar year, you have to enter it as "after 12/31/19 " and "before 1/1/21." If that seems weird to you, you're not alone.

Great Software, Exceptional Service

Reviewed 4 years ago

Overall, we have enjoyed our experience with Kindful. Their team is very responsive, and has ensured we know our options, our integration features are set up correctly, and that we're getting the best cost per our needs.

Pros

Our organization really enjoy the dashboard feature allowing us to quickly and seamlessly see data on our donor (champions!), our goals, and recurring gifts. We also enjoy the report features and all the options we have to make custom reports. Plus, the acknowledgement letter tool has saved us so much time while increasing our accountability.

Cons

Some of the Activities filters are hard to navigate, or create, to get the reports we need. However, the 'Help' section of the software usually has a solution or the next best option for the report we were trying to generate.

Reviewed 7 years ago

I think Kindful is a great product for a growing non-profit. The UX design is beautiful and makes being in the database a pleasant experience. The staff has been helpful.

Pros

-Looks nice -Very affordable -Cool features such as automatic reports and Mailchimp integration -Staff is responsive to technical issues

Cons

-Seem to be quite a few bugs -The setup is not as intuitive as I would have liked
