Great for smaller non-profits

Great product when you are starting out. However, once you get to 500-1,000 accounts or begin having larger events, you may need to upgrade.

Pros

Great for donor development tracking, assigning tasks, and running reports, integrates with Constant Contact. Perfect for new nonprofits or organizations with a small list.

Cons

It does not provide a credit card processing gateway.

They also keeping adding features that make database management even easier.

Cons

I haven't figured out yet how to integrate LGL with Constant Contact. I probably need a tutorial on that.

We¿re still transferring our data into LGL, but have been very happy with our LGL experience so far.

Pros

We have found it a really intuitive platform with a lot of opportunities for customization. Their customer support is excellent and very responsive.

Cons

We wish Sendgrid could be used as a Third-Party integration for Email Marketing- only MailChimp and Constant Contact is supported right now.

Functional and easy to utilize!

The benefit of being able to easily access our constituents from one database. As well as the ability to pull reports.

Pros

Our Foundation likes mostly that this software provides an easy report and review of our constituents.

Cons

The only difficulty we were faced with in this system was during our database import.

We also love the many groupings that allow us easy research when wanting to see where we are with a certain project or campaign.

Cons

Our third party credit card system also is still not linked directly into LGL, which is time consuming to upload the data daily.

LGL is intuitive with all of the core features a non-profit needs to excel.

Pros

I am most pleased with (1) the contact report feature as a function of moves management; (2) the ease of use of LGL Forms to accept online gifts; and (3) the number of partner services that integrate with LGL (we use Stripe to process online gifts, for example).

Cons

Not really a criticism, but rather an observation that the LGL interface feels light on graphics.

Little Green Light really allows us to bring all our fundraising documentation and communication within one system, manage communications with donors, volunteers and other constituents, and share information with staff and other team members.

Pros

It is a basic database, but really has everything you need for most small fundraising shops.

Cons

I also have had some challenges integrating with MailChimp and Constant Contact. But granted, I am new to the software and have not fully versed myself in these features.

LGL integrates with Paypal and Constant Contact. It also allows me to pull various reports very quickly.

I love the way it integrates online donations into my donor records -- so easy and so professional.

Cons

And I wish that when a recurring donation fails that the donor would automatically get an emailed notification from LGL Forms.

This system is considerably like an extension of my own brain in terms of managing contacts and their contributions.

Cons

Hardwired coding that categorizes even earned income as “gift”. There’s an acceptable workaround, but still, that seems a silly limitation for such a sophisticated product. Pledges are also lumped with gifts, even before they are fulfilled. I can see the logic of this but would like the option to decouple them.

Everything is so much easier now that we've moved to LGL

I was never really confident that our mailing lists and reports were actually capture the correct people or that they would be repeatable in our former database. With LGL I am totally confident.

Pros

It is very easy to use and integrates very easily with other services like Mail Chimp and PayPal.

Cons

There are a few features I wish they had but they keep improving it and adding new features so I'm confident they will be coming.

This is an amazing fundraising solution, especially for the price.

Little Green Light allowed us to streamline all of our contacts, donors, events, mail lists into one database. We are still learning all of what it can do but it has increased productivity significantly.

Pros

You can customize forms that go to your website, register people, receive donations and record everything you need all in one solution that is so reasonably priced.

Cons

You can export information to csv files easy enough.

I converted my organization's database from FundRaiser in July and have not once regretted my decision.

Pros

Cons

It takes awhile to figure out which fields to use for what but I think that would be the case for any software and depends on a lot on how you approach development

A lot of the challenges we have with using this software comes mostly from implementation snafus; lots of trial and error. My advice to avoid this is to set aside a month or two for one staffer (or a team if you're blessed with one of those) to focus exclusively on how the software will be implemented, who needs to use what tools when, and to set up formal procedures before it goes into active use.

Pros

-easy to learn -love love love the form creation tools -streamlined integration with other platforms, after some work (MailChimp is the one we use most often) -flexible categorization of constituents -a very responsive support team

Cons

-not as customizable as I would like -heavy reliance on integration with other platforms -have had some issues with integration syncing

GREAT donor database with top-shelf features for small budgets

I've been a fundraiser for 25+ years, primarily with very large organizations (raising $100 million+ annually), and had an opportunity to use a range of nonprofit databases, including home-grown systems and some of the best-known products from large companies.

Pros

As the database administrator, chief data entry staffer, list- and report-creator and website integration specialist, it's intuitive with great customer service and on-line resources to allow me to meet our organization's needs.

Cons

We've got access to big-budget possibilities and investing the time and energy generally makes them possible for us.

Recommendations to others considering Little Green Light

I appreciate the fact that LGL has taken steps to make ancillary services affordable. For example, their partnership with ProPay to provide integrated credit card processing - and the ability to do so with a reduced transaction fee for nonprofits - has had a tremendous impact on our bottom line. Before LGL, our only options for accepting on-line gifts took 5%-15% off the top of each transaction; now we pay less than 3%, and many of our donors choose to cover the fee. (LGL's web form function makes it VERY easy to give donors that option.) I'm also grateful to have access to National Change Of Address (NCOA) processing for a very reasonable fee with a process that's straight-forward. Before LGL, our organization had never attempted NCOA and we were getting more and more returned mail with 10-year-old addresses on file. Often there'd be so much returned mail that we wouldn't have a chance to update all the addresses before sending our next mailing...meaning we were basically throwing printing and postage costs away. We paid $150 for our first NCOA and I know we earned that back immediately based on reduced printing and postage costs for the mailings that have followed.

Great bare bones donor management software.

I learned more of what we needed by using this software. I thought we could use a simple system like this one, but I believe it is too basic for our needs.

Pros

I love that this software includes almost everything you need for running a nonprofit donor database. The price is about 1/3-1/4 of what other companies offer.

Cons

The process of moving over donors from one database to this one seemed easy in the beginning, but ended up being very tedious.

Pros

In the first 10 days after the hurricane landed, we had donations pouring in, and our previous donor management system was just not handling the work.

Cons

The dashboard/home page is jam-packed and not visually appealing -- and yet it does give a nice snapshot of lots of data.

It still requires a knowledgeable person to lead the implementation, import data, design complicated forms, set up syncing between forms and the database, and train other staff, but staff can easily grow comfortable with using LGL for all their daily data needs.

In fact, the dashboard gives us our membership numbers without even having to run a query.

Linking forms to the Little Green Light database can be complicated.

When the customer service support team responds by email, the explanations address the concern.

Cons

What I don't like is that for someone who has no real donor database experience or has always relied on an assistant, I would have preferred to attend an overview in person training session where questions could be asked in real time.

This turns our database into a collaborative crowd-sourced information bank we can all use wherever we may be even on our mobile phones.

Pros

If you're a startup nonprofit wondering whether or not to take the leap into state-of-the-art donor management, I strongly recommend Little Green Light.

Cons

There are some minor tweaks that might improve Little Green Light. For example, when a donor wishes for a gift to be anonymous, there's a checkbox you need to hunt for. But honestly, the folks at LGL are way ahead of me when it comes to finding and fixing flaws. I bet the next LGL upgrade will be light years better than anything I can even imagine.

That it comes with the opportunity to use Mail Chimp and Stripe and have the data automatically roll into LGL was key

I recommend this product to anyone looking for a nonprofit donor database software that doesn't break the bank.

Pros

Adding team members was easy and I like that it is cloud-based--we can access from anywhere.

Cons

Reports are hard to generate and we had to designate one staff member to become the expert in generating reports so that we could get high-quality reports on a consistent basis.
