Thorough Financial Package with a Modern Design

Accessing the financials anywhere from the Internet is extremely helpful.

Pros

It has a modern design and user-interface which is nice and it also integrates directly into Arena so we are able to have all of our important information in one database.

Cons

Understanding the setup at times can be complicated, particularly if a non-financial person is the one setting things up, particularly with security.

Transition from Shelby V5 to ShelbyNext was difficult due to radically different user interface.

It meets all requirements for the unique accounting and payroll requirements for churches.

Pros

Online access is my favorite feature of this software.

Cons

I do not like the requirement to make a global selection of accounting month and bank account before entering a transaction. It is particularly frustrating to attempt finalizing a payroll and having to re-do several steps because you were in an incorrect accounting month.

(we scan everything!) The UI is easy to understand and navigate.

Cons

Biggest issue is that ShelbyNext Financials is still not SQL 2016 compatible!!! Bug fixes seem to take longer than they should to fix (specifically an AP issue with default ACH that we have been waiting for for over a year)

Once trained very easy to use and intuitive.

Pros

I like that you can adjust the income statement with custom columns.

Cons

I don't like it when I am doing a journal entry and the first line never accepts the account number and the only way to get it to "recognize" it is to search for it. Annoying. I don't like that all of a sudden something will look entirely different from the last time you performed that same function. When you call customer support and you are in critical need the recording tells you they can not answer at this time and to call back. Not acceptable for a support based software that we pay so much for.

System makes all financials easy to track and look up reports. Also great for year end financials.

Cons

Some minor glitches that never seem to get fixed. Often the support takes forever to get and sometimes don't even have a solution.

More user friendly, easier for staff to use overall, simplified to give us what we need, better bank reconciliations.

Pros

Coming from the old v5 platform, its cleaner, simpler and more user friendly. Its scaled to give you what you need but not much more than you needs. Functionality is good. We host it on our server, updates work well, over all its run well with no problems.

Cons

We would like more options in creating reports, would like to print the posted journals, etc, but we understood it was a more limited template type package vs V5, so its not surprising, but if we could ask for changes it would be report option selections.

Now that the database is loaded with our congregation, the process goes much faster.

It is the backbone of our day. Most of what we do is through this software, so it is very important to us. We use just about everything available within the product. It helps in training new employees that the commands and screens are similar in each area.

I can get most of the reports that I need.

The fund accounting functionality is very good and helps us maintain our donor designated funds will high accuracy and good detail.

I also wish SNF had more robust APIs so we could tie to our giving system and other ancillary programs that we would like to tie to SNF.

And I would say that the learning curve from V5 to Next was fairly easy. I just need to clear my time to learn about things we haven't utilized yet, like uploading payroll ACH and emailing payroll vouchers to employees.

Pros

I like that it is web-based & I can access it easily on other devices besides my work computer when necessary.

Cons

I get this is a security feature, but we should have control enough to make it longer when we need to.
