ETAP is generally the best software i have used. I would love to see features like infinite busbar being able to be implemented.

Customer support has been pretty good, they will assist you when you have technical questions on how to model certain things, or if the library does not have a specific model of breaker, for example.

My overall experience is really good. ETAP offers seminars and their help support is quite responsive.

Hello Percy, thank you for your positive feedback. We always add new and innovative  features to our annual releases and take suggestions from our customers into consideration for future releases. 
In regards to your question about lightning protection, you can utilize the ETAP emtCoSim module; and your feature request for "infinite busbar" you can utilize the bus editor and select "swing" to model an infinite bus.

In regards to your feedback, you are right, we don't store defaults and setting separately, all settings are saved automatically in you project files. When you read your project your new release it will update your settings as well. You can always set up a project template, which you can use when starting a new project or upgrade to a new release. Please feel free to ask our 24/7 HelpDesk support team for assistance. You can also request new features or update to libraries by entering a ticket in our HelpDesk. 

The overall experience has been good, there are some features which could use some improvement (as mentioned above).

One of the best software for power system studies

Thank you for your positive feedback. As an ETAP user you know that we constantly update our libraries and it is a constant chase to catch up with the latest products. In our latest release we added over 14,000 new libraries. You can also contact our Help Center to request the addition of missing libraries or you can also add and import libraries specific to your project yourself.

Overall experience has been good. We've experienced some troubles but we've always gotten the problem fixed by the customer support. We try to use ETAP whenever possible.

A Happy ETAP User

We use "copy project to" instead of save as since SQL is installed locally on the machine which allows for faster performance. Copying the files directly disconnect the local database which is why we have this option instead.

I have used Etap for over 12 years and have used it for design, installation, and troubleshooting of many power generation systems over this period. These systems primarily include relay coordination, and protection schemes, arc flash, and motor starting. It is a great product.  

Review of Etap Software from GW Engineering Inc.

This can be resolved by using Auto-Build which is modeling based on a spacing rulebook. You can modify the rulebook to evenly space out all the elements in your one-line, allowing for a less cluttered view.

A lot better than SKM but still not perfect

Thanks you for your feedback. As you know ETAP is module based and is offered in many configurations. Modeling in ETAP is not restricted and you can create as many scenarios as you with. Analysis module need to be obtained as needed.

Carlos:                                                Hi, this is Carlos. I'm a senior electrical engineer. I use ETAP. I gave ETAP a three. For more information, see the links below.
                                                       Before ETAP, it was really, really hard to accomplish some of the tasks that we had for some of the clients that we had. Especially in the low voltage [crosstalk 00:00:29] studies and the eye flash and having a way to calculate all the different values required to for our flash calculations.
                                                       Some of the reasons why we selected ETAP was it's very well known in the industry. They saw a lot of resources. Their customer service seems to be very, very, very useful. They tend to respond very fast. Also they have a lot of presence in most of the cities where if you are trying to find a training class or a seminar, you're always going to be able to find one. And that's very useful. But yeah. So those are some of the reasons.
                                                       So the onboarding with ETAP was quite straightforward. It really didn't require much effort in our end. It was mainly just setting it up in one of the computers with the licensing, everything. So the downloading process and setting it up really didn't take too much. It was pretty straightforward. So no issues there.
                                                       One of my recommendations for getting ETAP is that the software itself is very powerful. It's very, very useful. And one of the biggest advantages that ETAP has is that it's very well known and a lot of the industry uses it. And so there's no way around it. So it's a very powerful piece of software and it's very capable. So I don't see any disadvantages of having the software and using it for our flash calculations and short [crosstalk 00:02:29] studies. It's very useful for those types of applications.
