SurveyMonkey Reviews

Free online survey tool

Love it  starstarstarstarstar_border  2019-02-26

 Pros

Survey Monkey is amazing for creating your survey: it's intuitive and allows for the collection of several types of data. It's easy to both create, respond to and analyse. It doesn't require to sign up, which encourages people to participate, and allows for open replies, as well as numeric, multiple choices, etc. Plus, there's a free option, which is great for small non-profit of for starters.

 Cons

none that I remember. Maybe it would be nice to have a definition of each setup, so to immediately understand immediately what setup you need for your question, but it's nothing that you can't figure out after a few minutes.

Website creation and publishing platform

Endless customisation, but keep an eye for bugs  starstarstarstarstar  2019-02-26

 Pros

Wordpress is great if you want to build your own website, as there's something for every level of experience: from templates and plugins that only requires you a few clicks for the less experienced, to the possibility to code and customise every aspect of your website according to your needs and web skills.

 Cons

As it's an open source platforms, updates can sometimes conflict with previous plugins or create bugs, so you need to keep an eye on your website to make sure they always work as they are meant to. The fact that a website is so easy to create sometimes might mislead people about the work needed of mantaining it. Also, I'm not sure it ensures the highest security standards.

Project management platform  starstarstarstarstar_border  2019-01-24

 Pros

- Nice-looking and effective design - possibility to separate and categorise projects and tasks - easy to use for most things

 Cons

- the files are listed all together, which might be confusing - starting price tag is quite high, no free version

Social Media Monitoring Built for Business.

Full-optional media monitoring service  starstarstarstarstar_border  2018-12-04

 Pros

Mention is a one-stop-shop to monitor your brand and campaign success well beyong the reach: it helps you learn more about you, your competitors, and how people feel about it. In a way, not only you learn IF and HOW MANY people are talking about you, but also WHAT are they're saying, which is super useful, especially if you're working for controversial/polarising issues.

 Cons

It's quite expensive as a service, and upgrades get to sky-high prices ,often unaffordable for not-for-profit organizations. So I hated it because I couldn't get it!

Social media management & scheduling

To manage your profiles and monitor your brand  starstarstarstarstar_border  2018-11-09

 Pros

HootSuite allows you to schedule posts for all your social media platforms, monitor some accounts in one trend, monitor the hashtag of your campaign or your name, respond to messages and comments etc. It's a one-stop-shop for your social media, and saves you A LOT of time. It is also quite cheap considering the amount of time you can save.

 Cons

Sometimes it takes a while to adapt itself to SM's updates. Also, a few features aren't available, so you need to go back to your native platform to get the best results (ie: add a customised preview, add line breaks before your hashtags on Instagram, etc.). In particular, they should improve their video posting features for Facebook.

CMS and customer experience management

You can customize a lot, but long learning curve  starstarstarstar_borderstar_border  2018-11-09

 Pros

Once you learn how to use it, it allows you to do a lot more than other major CMS, it allows you to customize your website very easily using different modules, without any need to use your precious IT support hours. Good if very few and skilled people need to learn how to use it, and if you have the time to learn its logic. The system

 Cons

I found the learning curve for this CMS longer than any other I've used before, you spend a lot of time trying to figure out how things work. Some processes could be streamlined. Being it kind of difficult to learn, I wouldn't advise it for organizations that need many people to use the CMS. Overall, it's very expensive not only in terms of money but also in terms of training. Also, apparently not many freelancers know it well, hence might be hard to find an extra pair of hands for a deadline.

Canva Reviews
Graphic-design tool for web & print media

Good if you need quick and easy design work  starstarstarstarstar_border  2018-11-02

 Pros

We used Canva to create templates and share them with other teams that had no Graphic Designers in place: it's quite intuitive and easy to use even for people with no GD skills. Also, it has a lot of templates, fonts and illustrations that can help you create new visuals in little time. You can also add your own brand colours and font, and your own template, to make sure everyone will respect the visual identity of your company.

 Cons

It cannot be considered a real alternative to, e.g., Adobe Creative Suite. It lacks a lot of tools and the interface doesn't help when it comes to creating something that goes much further than the very basics or if you want to customize the pre-made templates a lot. Also, sometimes it crashes, hence I would not suggest to let your project sit there too long.

Drupal Reviews
Open Source Content Management Platform

Probably my favourite CMS  starstarstarstarstar  2018-11-02

 Pros

It's both easy to use, secure and customizable. I find it very intuitive for basic users, which is great when you need to grant editing access to several people (a bit less so for more advanced needs). It gives you the potential to do pretty much everything you need without affecting the security, and there's a big, helpful network of forums that can help you every time to get stuck.

 Cons

Some of the most advanced features are not very intuitive, hence you struggle every time you need them -because you forgot where they were on the menus! Also, sometimes you need to find workarounds to get Drupal to do what you need to.

Frame.io Reviews
Video review & collaboration platform for teams

Great for remote creative teams or outsourced videos  starstarstarstarstar_border  2018-11-02

 Pros

- It's quite easy to use, so perfect if you need somebody who is not "in the field" to review the video and add their comments. - you can stop the video and add notes and comments on that specific time, and others can comment on your note. It makes much easier to keep track of all requests/changes/comments, without going back and forth endless mail threads. - it can be integrated with Adobe Premiere. - Cloud-based, so you can review your videos from literally everywhere.

 Cons

- The email notification system can be improved. - Sometimes the comments take a while to appear to other users, which can force you to move the conversation elsewhere if you're in a hurry.

G Suite Reviews
G Suite (anonymous review)
Collaboration app suite for teams

Great for digital nomads  starstarstarstarstar  2018-09-13

 Pros

I travel a lot and need to work from different devices: G Suite is great because I can access my file from everywhere and share them with virtually everyone, which is not always the case with other solutions. And you can always download your file to be compatible with Word or Acrobe Reader. Plus, you can have it for free, which is great. It's getting better by the day.

 Cons

It cannot be considered as a perfect substitute to major office suites, as it lacks key features: ie the possibility to easily track changes instead of create versions can be important in my job. Sometimes a bit cumbersome to perform less common tasks.
