Slack Reviews
A single place for team communication and workflows

the best way to organize all your many chats and threads  starstarstarstarstar  2018-12-01

 Pros

Slack is a great communication organization tool for keeping all your different teams, projects, and comment threads categorized and organized. It's got integrations with almost all of the major project management apps and other platforms. You can keep conversations about a specific project just in that project channel so that you can address things when you can focus on that project. It's really useful. Good mobile app too.

 Cons

If you implement slack it really needs to be your only communication tool, otherwise your team gets confused between which place to look for comments. If you're all in, it's great.

Evernote Reviews
Create, capture & access everyday notes on mobile devices

Great way to capture info quickly  starstarstarstarstar  2018-12-01

 Pros

Evernote is a great little note capturing and organizational tool. The ability to quickly add a note, save a webpage, or record an audio message is really useful especially on mobile. Then you can log into your account to organize all the stuff you've captured and saved. It's also got great third party integrations with several other apps and platforms on the web.

 Cons

Sometimes the volume of notes and scraps you've collected is hard to sift through and organize so you need a plan going into it. Otherwise it's a great tool.

Google AdWords Reviews
PPC campaign management

There's no getting around paid search traffic  starstarstarstarstar  2018-12-01

 Pros

If you're trying to market your product or service to people in the market for that offering, there's really no better (or cheaper) way to specifically target those buyers than Google's Adwords program. We work hard to get organic search listings, but particularly for high traffic, competitive terms, bidding on PPC ads in the SERPs is a great strategy. Adwords lets you do keyword research, scope out the competition, and control your bid/spend in multiple ways. It's simple text and the best part is you only pay for clicks that come to your website.

 Cons

Adwords has been changing the interface a lot lately. It's often difficult to get from Express to the full suite, and the constantly changing google app ecosystem means you can almost never find your way around. Sometimes they deny an ad, they also raise your CPC if they don't like the quality of the page you land traffic on, so there's some unfortunate road blocks where they try to control the entire internet, but otherwise it's a very cheap form of advertising and lead acquisition.

Wix Reviews
Website builder & publishing platform

Wix is good for beginners  starstarstarstarstar_border  2018-12-01

 Pros

As far as build-you-own-website platforms go, Wix is really good. Lots of theme and customization options for the front end and you can still use blogroll and other familiar features. It's drag and drop for people who aren't coders or designers, so it's really good if you need to build something on your own on the fly.

 Cons

As a web development company, our team tries not to suggest these kinds of services to clients because you're really limited on what functionality you can build into it later on. We use more versatile CMS platforms like Wordpress due to the ease of functionality plugins and add-ons, code changes, etc. With Wix you are stuck with the options and features they give you.

Bookkeeping for non-accountants  starstarstarstarstar  2018-11-13

 Pros

I'm clueless when it comes to keeping our books and so the ease of use in QBO is really helpful. If I don't know what to do, I can find an article to tell me how or get someone from their tech staff on the phone to help. It's easy for accountants to log into our account too once we grant them access. I like the ease of processing payments, invoices, and receipts, as well as running reports on how we're doing. Quickbooks online a lot better than the offline version of the software.

 Cons

Some features need some accounting knowledge, I will say. Mainly if you don't know how to file a charge or something it doesn't tell you waht to do, but once you know (or learn from the CPA) the features are easy to use in the program.

SEMrush Reviews
Online visibility management and content marketing SaaS platform

Pretty standard for SEO and digital marketing teams  starstarstarstarstar  2018-11-13

 Pros

SEMrush is our primary SEO tool and it really does it all, especially with the massive upgrades in the last year. It tracks keyword ranking positions, offers a few keyword research tools, and compares the domain to others related to it. You can automate reports that are white labeled, too. It also does domain analysis, backlink tracking, and site audits which we use all the time in our SEO business. They have recently rolled out link opportunity and outreach tools as well as brand monitoring on social media, though we haven't used those as much lately (but plan to).

 Cons

SEMrush is an advanced tool for sure, not for newbies with little knowledge. However their support and tutorials are great. I'd like some more customization and styling options for the report tool, since we use SEMrush as our main report generator. Now we end up pasting images or combining it with other separate reports. I'd also like a client-facing dashboard for easy reporting. The keyword research tool isn't as good as the google one used to be, but now that google is making their keyword research tool more and more ridiculous, SEMrush is looking pretty good.

WooCommerce Reviews
eCommerce platform for WordPress

One of the best options for Ecommerce sites  starstarstarstarstar  2018-11-13

 Pros

Wordpress is our go-to platform for websites so we are always more apt to use WooCommerce for ecom clients. It's open source so there are plenty of upgrades and add-ons in the plugin directory of wordpress and the support is really responsive. There's a ton of info on the web about it anyway so it's not hard to learn. I like that it's fully customizable, we have control over every page, the checkout, the confirmation, all of it (as opposed to Shopify where they control the checkout themselves and you just get to style pages). Easy to manage orders, customer lists, and inventory too.

 Cons

The only real downside is that it's fairly robust so newbies or non-developer users will have a bit more of a hill to climb to learn and use the tool, but that's the price you pay for complete control and customization. of course with Wordpress, you have to keep it updated regularly or risk it breaking or posing a security risk.

LastPass Reviews

Good Password Vault  starstarstarstar_borderstar_border  2018-11-13

 Pros

As far as a cloud-based password vault goes, LastPass delivers. We started integrating it into our process in the last year and it's been a slow adoption process. I like that you can create different vaults of passwords to share them in groups. It's secure and has an easy browser extension that saves passwords and inputs them automatically so you can share a login with someone without them actually knowing the password. then if you need to shut off their access, you can do so remotely and they just won't have the login option anymore in their extension.

 Cons

Despite having all the passwords in the vault, you still need to let an employee know which login to user so there's still an element of spreadsheet communication, which we were trying to replace. Also the interface inside Last Pass is clunky, like it was assembled by programmers and not users. It takes some getting used to.

Google Calendar Reviews

If it's not on my gCal, it's not in my life  starstarstarstarstar  2018-11-13

 Pros

I use my Google Calendar for my business and my personal life and I'd be lost without it. It manages my daily schedule with lots of great features. Syncs with gmail nicely (meetings mentioned in email threads get auto-added or i get prompted to add to the cal, etc) and has great widgets for Android. I set reminders often and each event can have a kind of comment thread with other attendees. Integrates with Hangouts nicely for virtual meetings. I can have multiple calendars as layers, which helps too.

 Cons

Not much to dislike about this, it's a really well designed calendar. I'd like perhaps some more visual customization options for myself personally (making certain events have an image background instead of color) but those are picky.

Gmail Reviews
Free email and inbox management app, from Google's G Suite

Gmail is the Definitive Go-To Email Platform  starstarstarstarstar  2018-11-13

 Pros

There's really no reason to use any other email tool, in my opinion. Gmail has thought through every conceivable need for your inbox and answered them. The recent update allows for a really great inbox view that shows attachments by name/type in the inbox list and they're clickable. Lots of customization options for labeling and organization, forwarding and sorting rules, plus it integrates with just about every tool or program. Predictive typing and default response options are a time-save (especially on mobile). it's a clean interface too, not as clunky and junky as Yahoo and similar others. With a gmail address, you're already set up for an account on all their other apps and most third party apps as well.

 Cons

Using gmail means sharing your info with the global behemoth that is Google Corp, which may be a privacy issue for some, but generally this is a security benefit rather than a detractor. I wish I could drag threads and drop them in my label categories on the side panel but the new hover commands in the inbox speed things up. That's my only real bottleneck is when I am sorting the inbox into label "folders" it's a lot of manual clicking.
