Project Management In Business Casual

2018-11-29

If you like to hack and own, Basecamp might be your favorite pm solution. The price is great! And you can trust you'll get the core tools to keep your projects running smoothly.

Pros

The truth is, I love casual Friday.

Cons

Being cool and creative has some drawbacks. It's harder to automate and scale, for example. It's harder to customize roles and rules. And data... a little more copy and paste than you might like (if you're a BI consultant).

Pros

Additionally the Campfire section is good for casual conversation within project groups.

Cons

Great For Busy People!

2018-12-01

Awesome! Such a nice tool/service. It lives up to its description and have not seen any bugs while using the trial.

Pros

This tool is great for workplaces that are really close and need to do business together. It gives live updates on things people are doing as well as announcements when tasks are finished. Not only will this work with company work places, but there is a possibility that this can be used in a college/university setting because of its ease!

Cons

The pricing is a bit too much for casual use. This MUST be done by corporate in order for this tool to be practical.

Great for client management across multiple departments!!

2018-07-02

Pros

The new Campfire feature expands Basecamp's utility to include internal project management - allowing for a more casual flow of ideas.

Cons

Doesn't allow the user to see the workload of other colleagues. It would be convenient to see if a coworker is already working on multiple projects to prevent me from assigning them more tedious work.

Good platform to start with for task management

2018-06-27

It has held together our team! Allows team members to be easily added, and taken out. You are able to jump into a project at any point and see progress.

Pros

Easy to hold casual conversations.

Cons

There is not a lot of visual representation and division, it is easy to miss important notes with the abundance of text. Too text heavy. Also the photo gallery is easy to miss, unless you upload the image to a thread.

The Best Platform for Project Organization and Collaboration

2018-12-13

Pros

The user interface is very attractive and easy to navigate. It is easy to find files vs to do lists vs conversations. Basecamp provided the best long distance collaboration I've experienced on any project. The mobile app is also very easy to use and well designed.

Cons

For example casual conversaion is on a different page than conversations relating to individual projects and things.

easy project management tool

2018-04-19

kept all of our project files in one place; organized easy to keep teammates accountable without micromanaging

Pros

- easy to use - organize projects with due dates and teams; keep files in one place and add comments - fun; make 'announcements' teamwide; use as a casual chatroom - set up alerts to ask your team questions (on a daily, weekly, quarterly basis) such as what did you work on today?

Cons

- search (based on your keywords) can be improved; only searches within specific teams/channels rather than the entire basecamp - price is a bit high but if you have a large team, you'll get your moneys worth

Its an useful tool for collaboration and keeps everyone on the same page. Very easy to use .

We are using this software to keep everyone in loop including the customer. It helps in documenting the conversations we had with the customer and helps immensely whenever we have to refer an old discussion.

Pros

This software has allowed the teams to work together efficiently and still keeping the things very easy. It has definitely helped everyone here to gain certain number of hours each week and contributing significantly to steer the organization forward.

Cons

For example, most of the projects we do don't require a Campfire (casual chat) and a Message Board (more formalized postings.)

Basecamp is excellent for client management tasks that involve multiple departments.

2018-04-04

The main benefit of Basecamp is the ability to assign out specific tasks to specific individuals and with a due date. As a full-service digital marketing company, we benefit greatly from the software's overall project/client-focused design. Basecamp helps my medium-sized company to know which members of each department on working on a client. With the due date feature, users can indicate time-sensitive or priority matters. This feature is optional, which allows our company to distinguish between short term tasks and long term goals. Basecamp's design is checklist-oriented. Checklists appeal greatly to our more meticulous employees, but also encourages the more Type B employees to focus their ideas into timely and measurable tasks. The newest upgrade to Basecamp 3 introduced the Campfire feature which is ideal for internal projects, a benefit that was missing from the previous version. This aspect of the software is perfect for intra-department non-client work. For example, the account management team uses this feature to collaborate on building a new template for our client presentations. Overall, Basecamp allows my company to achieve large-scale goals by breaking them down into distinct tasks.

Pros

This feature allows for a more casual flow of ideas for projects that my team is working on as a group.

Cons

I dislike that Basecamp does not allow the user to know the workload of another coworker. For example, if I need a small change to be made to a website, I would assign that task to a member of our design team. They are very busy and sometimes that task can get backlogged if the recipient has a long list of assignments to complete. Additionally, when assigning out new clients, it is important to see which of my team members has the extra hours in their schedule to handle a new account.

Still unlike anything else - Basecamp is an incredibly easy-to-use option for those it fits.

2019-04-22

We needed guest and casual inclusion, with Basecamp handles easily without overwhelming anyone.

Pros

Some project managers have a lot of power and features by focusing on the list first. Basecamp explicitly avoids this and neatly tucks features like task comments away so that what you're presented with is always a very low-anxiety experience. It's better at this than any other competitor. While it may not be suited for thousands of complex tasks, for most teams it minimizes the time spent maintaining project records and lets them just get on with it.

Cons

For the same reason it excels at being *calming*, the latest Basecamp (v3) omits some features that I really grew to love from v2. It's harder to see the overall flow from a project manager's perspective, and you'll find very little in the way of robust reporting or timelines. V2 did a really nice job with project timelines, and I miss that implementation here.
